Step Boldly Speech Pathology
Добавлен 8 сен 2022
Step Boldly Speech Pathology is the hub for Nicole Rappell who has worked as a speech pathologist since 1997 both in the UK and Australia. Nicole loves working with people who stutter and people with social communication & participation concerns. She has recently moved from NSW Health into Step Boldly Speech Pathology full-time so that she can offer more services within our community.
Nicole endeavours to be there for her clients through advocating and educating on their behalf. She is a certified member of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
Nicole is the mother of a child with a severe disability. As such she knows the grief and joy of moving through the speech pathology & funding worlds (NDIS) from both sides - parent & professional. She has been in many similar experiences to the families she works with. Has walked the walk. Can talk the talk!

Getting to know our AAC - TD Snap
Many families find starting with AAC, in this case TD Snap overwhelming. The technology is foreign and there are so many buttons! Knowing a little bit about the words, phrases and navigation of the system can really help. The adult who will be modelling can do this exploration alone or with the user. Approaching with a curious, fun and playful intention can help push away feelings of 'Im gonna drown here!'. We stumble on our mouth words. Its okay to stumble with our AAC modelling too!

Here is an idea for how to support sensitive or neurodivergent people to get the most out of their communication system. It is a simple analogy based on the 'Demands and Capacities Model' (Starkweather 1987) designed to enhance communication, quality of life and wellbeing.
