When striving for success, people try to gather the secrets of successfull entrepreneurs, athletes or role models in general.
Have you asked yourself at least one of the following questions?
- Which skills do you need in order to become successful?
- Which skills do successful entrepreneurs have in common?
- If you only have to learn one skill for succes, which one is it?

    @theagilebusinessanalyst Can the either or be used in cases where both paths will be followed ?. I think so .For example, I am creating it to show a process where a system has a limited capacity and we can share data through it. Therefore if the user has access to the system then we share the data through the system.However if the user has not access then we share an excel file , so we take another process (outside the system) and both paths will be followed, as all users need to take the process of accessing data .It is not a parallel for sure and it will need to have a question on top to depict that the user has or has not access to the system. It will have the following question User can access system ?

    • @theagilebusinessanalyst
      @theagilebusinessanalyst 2 месяца назад

      Not sure if I got it 100%. I would say you have an xor gateway asking „Has user access?“. If YES, Then task „share data through system“. ELSE then task „share excel to user“. what happens after the excel is shared?

    • @Niel822
      @Niel822 2 месяца назад

      @theagilebusinessanalyst thanks for the prompt response! You got it! 😉. I also used x or! I was confused because you said that only one path is valid with x or , what you meant?. In my case both paths are valid .First path : user has access to the system-> opens dataset -> analyses->saves it-> all users receive the notification of the updated dataset ->end of flow( I use the circle to depict that the process ends). Second path: user has not access-> user receives an email with the dataset he needs to analyse-> user analyses dataset in his desktop-> user saves dataset-> user sends back the dataset to the user that has send it to him. Here I change swimlane, as the user who receives the analysed dataset belongs to another department. The other department opens the email with the analysed dataset and uploads it to the system and then manually consolidates all analyses both the ones made in the system and the ones made outside the system from the user's who couldn't access it. I hope 🙏 I didn't confuse you. What is the difference with the or? What do you think? I believe or will be used when depending on the case/event or even milestone one path will be used .Thanks so much?

    I have a different opinion here. XOR can also serve several paths, e.g. PurchaseAmount < 500 no review >= 500 review Supervisor >= 1000 review CFO

    • @theagilebusinessanalyst
      @theagilebusinessanalyst 2 месяца назад

      Based on ur example, if you use an XOR and let’s say the PurchaseAmount=2000, then the REVIEW SUPERVISOR process would be called, not the REVIEW CFO. XOR means, as soon as the FIRST condition is met, the process proceeds without evaluating other conditions within this XOR. In ur case I would recommend an inclusive OR Gateway, then both the supervisor and cfo review would be triggered

    I've been feeling my way in the dark (metaphorically), surviving as a "business analyst" since graduation. I graduated from college with an accounting degree (not actively pursuing a CPA) in 2004. The info in this video makes complete sense to me. I am a Business Analyst with experience in complex environments. I'm versatile - have more experience in some areas then other areas - but I have problems in my career (the position I'm currently holding) when they confuse me with a SME in the specific field, or they make me a Project Manager that is supporting the active Project Manager. I have seen this career path open up to me - in glimpses, and if you are not paying attention, the little opportunities to steer onto the proper lane, can block you from continuing on in the project. Business Analysts have good skills in excel, they can automate business processes, have self confidence because they have held positions were they solved problems, but don't necessarily have deep understanding of coding, more like a "tinkerers" understanding of coding, or info security, but they have great people skills - they are good at reading people, but they need to be careful, because their self confidence confuses strong leaders,. Business analysts read people well, have a lot of self confidence, have difficulties succeeding on a project - because they don't have deep knowledge of anything. They usually get hired because they can't find a candidate who meets the job requirements perfectly so they hire a person who has analyses skills. Thanks for this video - I am rolling off a project, 3 months being kicked around - showed them some things, but never really had a chance to find my swim-lane, they just don't understand my role - and the scrum-master role was taken, so I had no place to go (the Project Manager was trying to protect their turf - felt insecure with me being on the team) but, I picked up another skill-set to add to my portfolio of experiences. It's important that a Business Analyst set the expectations with the hiring manager before taking the position. Sorry for the rambling email - I totally appreciate this video - it's all I really need to know in order to make my career a success, One thing that I want to say to other Business Analysts who may relate to what I am writing here, the roles that you hold and role off aren't failures, they are successes because you become more knowledgeable of the world (whether its Govt or Commercial) but all of the experiences help you be a stronger Business Analyst.

    Thank you for the videos, which really helped me learning. On comment/question, though. In the example with the inclusive or, which you run about 13:50 in the video, would it not be problematic if you entered, say 1$ ? You have a path for >100$ and one for >1000$, but no default path. Would that gateway become a defacto endpoint? Or will the process be running perpetually?

    • @rimondzzzz8765

    I know this is an over-simplified scenario for the purposes of the example, but I'm wondering why BPMN seems so overly complex. I'm here because I've been a Business Analyst for 15 years, and somehow manage to dodge needing to use actual BPMN ever, despite learning it at university.

    In the demo of the OR ... Next time show what happens if the amount is BELOW 100, then the process stops, I assume ...

    • @theagilebusinessanalyst
      @theagilebusinessanalyst 5 месяцев назад

      Good point, I missed it. Indeed, if the amount would have been 99, then NO condition of the OR gateway would evaluate to true, hence the process would get stuck. That's why it makes sense to define a default path out of our OR gateway, to ensure, if no other condition is met, that the default path will run. The default path is something like an "ELSE" statement.

    • @theagilebusinessanalyst

      I'm not sure where I said it in this video, but you're right. BPMN is a standard notation. We can use BPMN to model the business processes and then implement them with agile methodologies.

    Wouldn't it be easier to first come up with solutions requirements first, then determine the business requirements?

    • @theagilebusinessanalyst
      @theagilebusinessanalyst 6 месяцев назад

      If we start with solution requirements, we could end up spending time drafting a solution requirement which in and of itself may be great, elegant and efficient, but not what actually is needed by the business. We only want to build solutions for the problems we have. Some products on the market are great but go out of business, because they solve a problem no one really has yet. Start with the true need. IT follows Business, not Business follows IT. Hope that helps :)
