While his name appears only a few times throughout Tolkien’s Legendarium, the elven-smith Celebrimbor is perhaps one of the most important Elven characters in these great tales. The Noldorin smith who forged the Rings of Power under the direction of Sauron in disguise, Celebrimbor is counted second only to Feanor in skill at the forge. But who exactly is Celebrimbor? Whether you know him from t...

I want these so bad but it’s not resonabld other than just t collect them
I just want Glorfindel!
My expectation from season three is the making of the One Ring and Sauron's rise to power, the distribution of the Nine and how they turned men into ringwraiths (Specially Kemen = Witch-king). Also, the deepening of the division in Númenor.
I'm really enjoying these!
Thank you so much for watching!
I love this format, lemme get into it 😄 1) Political climate in Numenor *needs* to be expanded upon. Like STAT. I already like all the principal characters, how they're developed and set up to drive the plot leading to the Fall of Numenor, I just need the writers to develop the Numenoreans as a society on the brink in order for me to feel anything when they do eventually...you know...go under. 2) More Galadriel!!! with both her sword AND ring! 3) More Arondir!!! 4) Gil-Galad, Galadriel, Elrond triumvirate (with a side of Cirdan pleek) 5) Elrond helping out Durin&Disa during the succession crisis and establishing Rivendell, busy boy that he is. 6) More on the metaphysics of the Rings and the Unseen world and how that leads to the forging of the One Ring 7) Gandalf learning more about the Dark Wizard, his acolytes and what they've been stirring up in the East 8) Sauron's complete subjugation of the Orcs juxtaposed with Adar's past leadership (yes, Adar's death still hurts and I want to see Orcs regret all their life choices) Please and thank you, Santannatar! 🎆
Where can you get these
I'm here to advocate for Sauron's blonde wig.
Hahaha! Okay fair
Dear Santa aka Annatar, for season 3 I would like a fire Galadriel arc where she steps into her power in sword and in spirit. I want her to fight with her thirst for power, assume a leadership position and be tempted. The Lady of Light arc would be premature, we know she'll eventually be that but for now she needs to explore the darkness. No Celeborn yet, it's bad enough that her arc is heavily influenced by men, don't sackle her with another. Let her face Sauron again, as powerful beings who share something deeper than the foundations of the earth.
Amen 🙏
Your channel is great, to many AI Tolkien channels today. His writings are among the greatest ever penned to paper. His legacy deserves a real human paying tribute to him, from the source material. Well done, and much appreciated. The Silmarillion is my favorite book, rich in substance and great from start to finish. Stay true to one of, if not the greatest writer that has ever been. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Thanks for the tea
Anytime 💝
I just finished reading this chapter of the book yesterday. Your summary does justice to what I've read and I appreciate the bite-sized encapsulation. It might stick in my head better now that I've watched your video!
this was a great review, Tea! I just realised I forgot to like it. Can't wait for your season review.
Aww thank you dear! The season two review will come after I’ve done a few more re-watches!
Not enough people talk about fingolfin.

I am drooling 🤤🥰 Are the bindings glued or sewn? Thank you.
Unfortunately glued.
@@robertsleeth861 Thank you
Hey there! I am just finding your channel during Season 2 and may I just say that it is refreshing to find a fan of Tolkien that gives a fair review of this show. Is it perfect? Far from it. Is it the slog the trolls online say it is, DEFINITELY NOT. I appreciate it for what it is and am thoroughly enjoying it over all. I'm also looking forward to the rest of the series. 💚 Cheers Mellon!
The Battle was epic and tragic. Thanks for sharing this. The Silmarillion indeed has, in my opinion, some of Tolkiens best writing. The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales are my 2 favorite books.
I’m going to disagree with your Adar assessment. I don’t think it was flippant at all. Brimby found his redemption in the books as well and still got tortured and killed for it.
That’s fine! Thanks for your comment. I appreciate that there are many different ways to enjoy and interpret this show.
Miles ahead of any recent TV...what was the last show you watched, 90s power rangers?
lmao I can’t even be mad, you cooked me with this
Fantastic breakdown! I really enjoyed your commentary! What a fun season!
Man, I clicked having high hopes for a channel called Tea with Tolkien. It's so discouraging watching Tolkien fans, particularly fellow female fans, have such low standards that they call this show "beautiful", "Tolkienian", "brilliant storytelling", "such a gift".....and even using this utter abomination to introduce children to Tolkien!....noooo 😭 If you enjoy bad tv, that's your right, but no one with taste can pretend this is good. This is a deliberate, politicised, cynical appropriation of Tolkien's works by talentless hacks. I would almost call it desecration. Where is the piercing beauty, the longing for a vanishing world, the sense of time long past, the mystery, the heroism, the epic struggle between light and darkness? Instead we have Sauron and Galadriel shipping 🤮
Sorry to disappoint! Hope you find a different channel that aligns more with your opinions.
Idk, but I wasn’t that “frustrated” by the Stranger story-line like apparently many people were, because I kinda saw it as an arc the younger audience might follow better? I liked that it was laidback and obvious- plus, I think the show was smart enough to say that “Gandalf” is a name he is known for, but not his real name (Olorin). “I am their creator. I AM THEIR MASTER!" "No. You are their prisoner." - dang, after the opening with king Durin and the Balrog I didn't think I could cry more, but Celebrimbor´s strength freaking broke me 😭(the whole sequence… the acting, the dialogue- and I kinda disagree on your criticism off “not showing the banner” because seeing him already impaled was close enough, plus I think both Elrond and Galadriel were aware enough of Celebrimbors last stand as to know what it meant ). The fight between Galadriel and Sauron was such an epic mind-game- the whole fight was incredibly symbolic of her fighting false promises (Halbrand), her own darkness (Galadriel) and the consequences of her actions (Celebrimbor). And the camera perspective of seeing her from above on the forest ground reminded me of the way we see Gandalf’s “resurrection” in Two Towers- so maybe its the Valar watching her “transformation”? Galadriel being stabbed by an “evil” weapon, sliping into darkness but waking up to find the light reminded me of Eowyn´s story in Return of the King (novel). Also, seeing at the end Galadriel dressed in simple white, marking her first step of becoming the White Lady of Lotlorien was just perfect.
As for Adar’s end- it made perfectly sense in the narrative. He pushed his children too far, when Sauron answers “They are not children anymore” sums it up perfectly.
I don’t think they grouped the Valar and Maiar into one category, Sauron presented himself as an emissary, so servant of the Valar, and Melian being called “of the Valar” also indicates she is just serving them. Plus, when Sauron says “Do you know how it feels to be tortured by a god?” It further indicates that he is of a lower status. About the kiss- the actors confirmed its platonic and, while unnecessary, I have no problems with that. Like you said, in Tolkien its not that weird having friends kiss. The moment of “Durin will come” is freaking heartbreaking. And yes, while the scenes between Celebrimbor and Annatar/Sauron are emotionally devastating (poor Brimby!!!) they are also some of the best scenes I ever expected to see. Like you said, it’s literary pulling from Tolkien, and that just made me giddy as well. And Celebrimbor cutting off his thumb, sacrificing his artistry, and simultaneously breaking free from both the physical and mental shackles that had kept him prisoner, just proves his will was mightier. (Sorry, but that scene went so deep). And then the conversation between Celebrimbor and Galadriel, his speech… 😭 Ok, your short mention of Sauron showing some similarities to how vampires “work” makes me wanna point out that there are actually soooo many similarities between the original Dracula novel and LotR!!!!! (Both novels having the villain in their title, both Mina and Frodo being “marked” and fighting for their soul, a fellowship, an old mentor guide, love/faith/friendship being the key to victory etc.) Also: Congratulations! Hi, Clementine, may the Valar bless you!
I 100% agree with the celebrimbor/annatar final scene. It was so beautifully done but i think it would have been so much better if his death was shown towards the latter half of the episode and had reactions from the other elves since their main goal was to save Celebrimbor.
The Sauron x Galadriel confrontation exemplifies the inconsistent wiriting. It was a scene that we were dying to see, as these two are the main antagonists (light vs darkness) and at the same time they have come to understand each other more than anyone. So that scene should have been a clash of titans with deep emotional juice, but it was undercut by the "heal yourself" lines. They tried, with the "not all of it" to draw out their deep conection, but they didn't expand on it. In the end, it was not a temptation, as he didn't offer anything to sway her, it was him unleashing his anger at her rejection. Seeing how masterfully they handled the s1 finale, I knew they could have made it impactful and strong, whereas this felt more like an ep4 fight
I didn't think her surviving the fall was that big a deal. People IRL have survived falls like that (even some skydivers who's parachutes never opened), and they weren't magical super elves who had magical rings to heal them afterwards. And you can see the tree slowing her fall, and the broken branches lying around her in that overhead shot... I agree with Arondir being fine suddenly, feel like there's a deleted scene there that they should've kept in. I thought Celebrimbor's death was heartbreaking. I didn't need Elrond or Galadriel to see it for me to feel it. And I found Adar's death to be quite tragic and poetic. I quite liked it. But that's just my opinion. shrug.
so why did that other elf die when she fell from the wall 😂
She had an orc take an axe to her after the fall… the fall didn’t kill her.
@@teawithtolkien You’re right I forgot about that 🫢
It's pretty clear that if Sauron wants to enter a new relationship he needs work on himself first hence the "heal yourself"
Thanks so much for these videos. Maybe I'm the only person in the world who loved "Heal yourself"--great delivery by the way--but I loved it. On the other hand "the free peoples of Middle Earth blah blah blah" I'm on Team Cringe there. I really like your observation of the paradox that Adar may be the most Tolkien-esque figure in ROP. I was fascinated by him and the actors who portrayed him were off the charts. And yes they could have at least given more time and emotional space to the tragic betrayal of his end. There is, for sure, a rushing about in the series that shortchanges the fans and the actors and the tale itself. The Barrow-wights fight, Mirel's sea trial, you've noted these as you've gone along. For another example I thought Numenor was too brief in the finale. I wonder if they were so unsure they'd be renewed--on an annual basis no less--that they felt driven to throw everything in there to say what they wanted to say, even if not artfully. On the flip side, I guess it's been widely observed they must have felt the need to throw in Gandalf for casual fans, but it was my least favorite thread. No shade on the actors, they were great and played their characters as written. But I want to say something like Gandalf was the least Tolkienesque figure, coming across as a nincompoop much of the time. Honestly I think ROP would have improved if they'd skipped it all together. And don't get me started on Grand Elf. Overall? Loved it, grateful, looking forward to Season 3.
I smiled so big when I saw that hedgehog teapot :D
my biggest issue with this episode is probably the notorious "heal yourself", but at the same time is was so too-modern-English-out-of-nowhere moment it was funny, it's a meme
It's a biblical reference.
@@EmiliaQuinn1what
@@UliaSamsonova It's from the bible. "Physician, heal thyself." It's a moral about hypocrisy. Fixing your own defects before seeking to fix those in others. So for Sauron, he's being a hypocrite. He wants to 'heal' Middle Earth, but really, he himself is the disease.
@@UliaSamsonova It's from the bible, "Physician, heal thyself." It's a moral of hypocrisy, about attending to your own defects before those in others. Sauron wants to 'heal' Middle Earth, but he is actually the poison.
@@UliaSamsonova It's from the bible: "Physician, heal thyself." It's a moral about hypocrisy. About attending to one's own defects before those of others. Sauron wants to 'heal' Middle Earth. But he is the disease. My point is that it's a reference to a text that's thousands of years old, so not really modern :)
It would have been wild if Sauron prevented her from falling and they started season 3 together. But they just need to tie the story lines together that would fix most issues because it feels like lack of time is their biggest issue.
They should have shown Arondir healed by Gil-galad's ring but leads to them getting captured.
Good on Galadriel for working up the courage to confront her abuser
wow amazing reviews Hey @tea with tolkien , congrats on the baby 👌, I’m kinda new to this adventurous fantasy universe spends years pretty busy with sci fi universe like Dc , but recently i feel drawn to adventurous fantasy planning on starting the books in the near future 🙌 anyway so my question; how much is it true regardin’ tolkien estate withholding & preventing the rings of power filmmakers frm using the actual lore…?bcuz if that is true i don’t see what the fuss is all about frm the fandom… i can understand the frustration if some strangely diff ideologies frm middle earth once were put out there… but it all doesn’t matter cuz by preventing them frm using the lore the estate are indirectly telling them to used what little they hve to concoct other diff ideas and make a full story which is similar to the lore but at the same tym diff…
I think you can mostly compare it to the MCU bringing the comic book stories to life, I guess? As someone who loves Tolkien´s works and am pretty versed in the lore, the show does capture the essence/spirit as well as story bits (sometimes even better then the Jackson movies). Its not a word-by-word adaptation, but few things are.
@@eryniel95 oh i see , gotcha 👍…thanks
26:34 I think Sauron is strongly implying that he does in fact hold influence Adar's army, unbeknownst to Adar and the Uruks. That would line up with the conductor-like gesture of both his arms toward the in episode, just before that army launches its attack, which might imply that his influence over them is through sorcery.
About the kiss, and the swelling of the music. Dr. Olsen comments on it in the latest Rings & Realms, and I think he nails it. He's convinced me that the music tells the viewer that Galadriel's despair and defeat have turned into hope . Platonic it may be, but meaningful nonetheless, even passionate: now Elrond has asked her forgiveness. In one shared gesture, they have now patched things up. It was the morale booster she desperately needed, not only to free herself and sneak out of the camp, but also give some helpful coaching to Arondir soon after.
what an wonderful and beautiful analysis!
@@eryniel95 I'm glad you liked it! The Rings & Realms video series that Dr. Olsen does with his partner Dr Maggie Parke are filled with great stuff. That particular analysis of his has been one of my favorites.
I think you are right about the music being the main problem of the kiss, but I think it wasn't fully intentional as it seems to be just Galadriel's theme, not a new romance theme.
Oh yeah definitely
Congrats on the baby! You in depth knowledge of the lore helped me appreciate the series even more. It's very refreshing to see videos on youtube that give fair criticism without spiraling into unhinged hate.
Thank you so much! So happy to hear the videos are helpful to you!
For the kiss, I totally agree that there's room for different reactions, but absolutely no need for people to be rude to each other over it. It didn't bother me personally as much as I expected since it was clearly a ruse, though I'm glad I knew that ahead of time so I could process it better. Mainly, I would have just liked them to not have the soaring romantic music and to cut to Adar for a reaction shot to emphasize that he was distracted. Even just an eye roll or an "ew, romance" wince would have helped clarify the intention of the scene.
Any thoughts on why Adar's face was CGI'd in that last scene with Elrond? Even in the shot of Nenya in the foreground and Adar blurred you can tell its the CGI face. I'm just so curious if possibly they filmed that scene with Joseph Malwe and then didn't want to refilm it, so they just stuck Hazeldine's face on, or if maybe something was wrong with the prosthetics but they didn't notice until too late and decided to fix it with CGI. Oooor, maybe the lines changed and they CGI'd him to make his face match the new lines instead of refilming all of it???
I'm only partway through this but wanted to say kudos on The Kiss discussion, and wanted to add something. "X" poster Zai/tenientezai edited the scene with different, tense music at the key moment--both versions are in her post--and it changes everything for the better. She also has a much more in-your-face closeup of passing the pin, which I don't think is needed but that's just me, I don't mind making the viewer do a little work. As Zai says and we seem to agree, "the direction&editing&music don't match the intention at all." So, not a federal crime, but I'd prefer her approach.
Yes I agree!!
Can you give a link to the video? (Maybe split up the URL to be non-functional so it doesn't get munched by any YT scripts as breaking some rules or other)
I really wished Celebrimbor and Galadriel kissed as well. It was also a farewell and would have emphasized the earlier scene.
More friends kissing!
Hi Clementine!
loved your comments on the "neither of us was strong enough, there might not be anyone in middle-earth who is". that's probably my favorite line of the series, as far as it reveals a solid understanding of tolkien's works
Neat
