How I Recycle Clay in my Pottery Studio
Просмотров 505Месяц назад
The easiest way I've found to recycle clay other than a pugmill. All you need is a bucket, a pillow case, and a plastic bag. You can recycle as little or as much at a time as you like. Studio Update - Glazing, Plants, Big Projects (June 2024)
Просмотров 638 месяцев назад
Update from the pottery studio. Summer break is here! That means more time in the studio. Glazing. Firing. Not cleaning enough. Etc. I've finished a couple custom pottery orders that have turned out well. Working on one more custom order at the moment. It has potential to be awesome but there are still some things to figure out. Plus a couple other big projects: teacher training and a small lan...
Addie Larue - Thoughts while Throwing (Pottery)
Просмотров 908 месяцев назад
As I begin throwing some mugs for a custom order I share a few thoughts about the book "The Invisible Life of Addie Larue." Some of the thoughts take from the book include freedom, being remembered, and ideas. There will be a few small spoilers if you haven't read the book yet! Sorry, the audio quality isn't top notch. I'll see if I can make it better next time. Also, it is hard to throw and ta...

Love your greens would you share your glazes that you used?❤😊
Was the map utensil holder a decal?
It was. I had to use two sheets of decal paper.
You glaze is awesome. And mug, i must try that shape. I do everything porslin clay. Happy holiday from finland.
Thanks for watching! Wishing you the best from the USA.
Yummy pots!
Thanks!
Also, Sue does glaze instruction classes on line . Chemistry of Glaze. Sue is in Canada. Another idea.
Chic Lotz pottery was doing glaze workshops I found interesting.
Wonderful ideas! Looking forward to glaze chats. Think about having a glaze workshop. A potter does or did do a week long glaze workshop helping potters learn about glazes and find their palette. She is in CA. Just an idea. Looking forward to seeing more of your RUclips presentations.
Yeah, there are a number of potters and workshops that I've considered. Someday it will work out. Thanks for your comments!
"you should probably wear a mask" made me laugh 😂 We should probably wear masks a lot more than we actually do
That's right, safety first! I usually do wear a mask when dumping clay scraps or measuring glaze ingredients but I guess when shooting a video it would get in the way.
This is a great idea! I never worked with clay or why you showed up on my feed but I'm sure this is helpful for a lot of people! I'm sure your saving a lot of money this way too. 🙂
That's funny. I'm glad it was interesting enough for you to watch and comment! Thanks for that. It definitely saves some money.
Thank you for such a short and simple video! I'm thinking about setting up a mini studio in my apartment and reclaim options have been top of mind. A few questions: 1. How many days does it generally take for the clay to homogenize and enough water to evaporate before you take it out of the bucket? and 2. Do you ever experience any mold issues using this method? Thanks again!
Good questions! The drying time in the bucket depends on how much extra water is on top and how dry and warm the environment is. Mine usually sits in the bucket a week or so. I try to get it out as soon as I can without water leaking all over so it can start drying faster. I do get a little mold sometimes (especially if I leave it in the bucket longer) but that doesn't bother me. I've heard that other potters add a few drops of vinegar or disinfectant when adding the water to help avoid mold but I haven't tried it myself.
Which glaze recipe are you using for the green glaze?
I'll have to look it up to be exact but it is one of the high calcium semi matte glazes from the book Mastering Cone 6 Glazes with about 1% cobalt carb. and maybe 6% red iron oxide.
Like comments about glaze chemistry. Interested in having a better understanding so as to make my own glazes.
Sorry, must have missed this comment before. I am also interested in glaze chemistry and have so much to learn. I just posted a studio update with some recent glaze tests and hope to make more videos in the future with more glaze info as I learn and experiment.
Watering pots have character! Lovely!!!
Thanks Linda!
Whoa, your wood-fire pots are awesome. I like where you are going with your green/brown glaze. Hope the tour went well!
Thanks so much! The Tour was great. Hoping to put up a video recap soon.
Very unique and beautiful pieces!
Thank you so much!
cool textures!
thanks!
I love every. Green glaze is awesome. You style is so cool. I love it. After pottery tour everything is sold😊. Good tour ❤
Thanks Johanna! I didn't sell everything but sold quite a few. Happy for another great pottery tour.
Beautiful pieces! I looove that warm yellow glaze on the inside of your cups and bowls! I hope your pottery tour went wel!
Thanks! The pottery tour went well indeed.
Beautiful pieces! Greetings from Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean.
Thanks for watching. I had to look up Bonaire. It looks like an amazing place!
@@artbyfuzzy it sure is! 😄
Cool stuff! The wedding bowls are lovely. I like what you’re doing with texture. I used to use toner decals with fused glass - never tried it with pottery.
Thanks for taking a look. Using decals is a lot of fun if you can find some good quality decal paper.
Gorgeous! (from Indianapolis area)
A fellow Hoosier! I'm near Goshen. Thanks for watching.
I love brown cup. Every yours job is so lovely. Johanna from finland
Wow, Finland?! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful work!!
Thank you!
Nice kiln pull. What hair gel do you use?
Thanks. No gel for me.
When is the Be the Pot(tery Tour)?
L👀ks like fun!
Fuzzy--- great opening. Short, sweet, direct and to the point. I like the rustic look.
Thanks for your kind words
Nice work 👍
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing 😊🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!
I am interested in the Bonsai Pots. Where do you sell the Bonsai pots?
I've only finished and sold one at a local pottery event so far. I will probably post some on my Etsy shop (Art by Fuzzy) in the future. I also plan to have many available for the Michiana Pottery Tour at the end of September if you are within driving distance of Goshen, Indiana. Thanks for your interest.
I would love to know what glazes you put on your pots. Beautiful things.
Thanks. The white is called Kaplan White Liner. The others are based on one of the glossy and one of the semi matte base glazes from the book Mastering Cone 6 Glazes. I would have to check my notes to be sure.
Great variations of glaze and texture on your “favorite” mug. Great work! Best wishes
Thanks so much. Looking forward to exploring textures and glazes.
Are you related to Christopher Walken ? Just joking , love your pottery ! Great stuff man 👍
Ha, I wish! Thanks for watching.
Mmmm, pie. I esp. like your watering jugs! Nice texture, glazes. And your fave mug, too.
Thanks for your kind words!
That was a really cool day
Cool!
Keep it up, you’re a true craftsman
