T 962 Reflow Oven Upgrade
Awhile back I wanted to make some surface mount PCB's at home so I upgraded a cheap T-962 reflow oven! The process involves removing masking tape from the oven, applying new Kapton tape, removing paint from the chassis to properly ground the device, replacing the loud and insufficient cooling fan, and upgrading the firmware. Links below to the instructions I followed as well as the supplies I used.
Hope you give this project a try! Thanks for watching!

Laser Cutting Beer Caddies On The Y-400
Просмотров 5 тыс.2 года назад
My Y-400 laser has been getting a workout lately cranking out beer caddies for the current craft show season. I wanted to share my process for making these caddies and hopefully inspire you guys to give this simple project a try! This project uses 4mm (5/32") and 5mm (1/4") PureBond Maple plywood sheets which are available from Home Depot online. See link below (not sponsored or affiliate). I c...
Build A HomeKit Controlled LED Matrix

As a fan of the 8-bit era of computing I’ve always loved pixel art and 8-bit graphics! I decided I needed to make a LED pixel art display for my basement using a Raspberry Pi Zero and a 64 x 64 LED matrix from Adafruit! I have provided an in-depth tutorial on my Medium blog (link below) with instructions on how I set up this LED matrix. There is also a link below for the Adafruit tutorial which...

10 Workholding Ideas For Laser Cutters

90W Laser Cutter From Scratch | Ultimate Air Assist

It's time to upgrade the air assist on my Y-400 laser cutter! Previously, I have been using the air pump that came with my K40 laser. I created a 3D printed box that houses a relay to switch the pump on and off. While this was adequate for the K40 laser, I always wanted to have bleed air through the nozzle on the Y-400 laser. It is important to remember that holding stock flat with magnets or weights doesn't actually negate the fact that it's cupped in the first place. Once the item is cut or engraved and you take the bracing off, it's going to return to its curved state. There may be a minor reduction from releasing some surface tension or removing an area where the most severe deformation exists. But overall, you likely still have cupped or twisted stock. In general, I think there's some very good ideas here for holding and positioning work pieces, especially for repeat items.

You skip over the fastening of the PI to the spacer, the back to the matrix, also the screw link no longer works. I am unable to find m3 screws of length that goes through the entire case and am unsure if I'm literally supposed to glue the screws to the spacer.

Mele Kalikimaka first, My engineer came out in viewing, As I always tell my wife (50 years) this is just an observation not a criticism. The big chunks of metal will waste a lot of material and has big risks. I love your magnetic hold downs and pins, My observation here is to make them so they protrude above the material less then the space between the material and the laser head- that way if you make a cut error the only thing that you damage is a hold-down.

The idea from the original design is to have the gantry attached to the table top and separate from the outer frame so that the outer frame could possibly be removed for cleaning/access. Checkout Further Fabrication's YT channel for more info on the design philosophy.

Although I fail to understand how the various spikes help with the bent board… I have seen someone screwing the metal spikes on a perforated metal plate to make a replacement of the expensive honeycomb, though. Personally, I just use duct tape to fix the board on a grid (one made to cool down baked pies). Not perfect, have to ensure I don't tape in the way of the laser, but kind of work.

There is no single or best avarage setting for the reverse scanning offset. You need to calibrate the offset for EVERY speed you intend to scan at. This is not a proportional scalling system, If you set an offset for 400mm/s it will not work for 399mm/s or 401mm/s because this is a simple lookup table system .

    • @acwrightdesign
