Pleasure Tripping
США
Добавлен 31 янв 2016
As an avid traveler, I've lived and traveled much of the US and Europe. While starting this channel was an initial effort to keep my family and friends up-to-date on my travels, I've found that many others have similar interests. Since my retirement I've become even more interested in traveling to places I've enjoyed in the past and exploring new worlds, new civilizations... to boldly go to places that most people have forgotten.
Traveling and commuting by train in Europe gave me a unique appreciation for this mode of transportation. Train travel has been all but forgotten in the US due to impatient travelers. My hope is to use this channel to help others recapture the "beauty of the journey" and to explore the country by rail. I also want to inspire the solo traveler and other retirees like myself, the people who always wanted to venture out but are waiting for the right time or opportunity. The time is now and the world is your opportunity.

Summer Journey On The California Zephr

My first long distance train excursion on Amtrak on the California Zephyr - from Chicago to Emeryville, CA. This is Amtrak's most scenic route passing directly though the heart of the Rocky Mountains, The Continental Divide and the Sierra Nevada of California. While I am a proficient photographer, this was my first major attempt at live video on a moving train. Looking forward to posting many m...
Had to listen at 1.5x speed, but solid info. Thank you!
@@MB-vp8zz Lol! I do the same sometimes. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏
Bought two USA Rail Passes. I start in PDX and will have 20 segments with 3 cross country routes!
@@CaptainJerry- That's great. Will look forward to hearing your stories about your trips!!
You just sold me on the Rail Pass!
@@anthonybaroni3285 Great to hear. Looking forward to hearing your stories.
Well, I’m convinced 😊.
@@ChrystalClear Thanks for your comment!! Good luck on your trip.
I would love that 😊
Enjoyed the relaxing video.
Great video. Thanks for sharing
Sounds like a great deal for retirees. Doesn’t work so well for us working stiffs.
@@VictoryHighwayThanks for your comment. I was also a working stiff for years. Typically people get a couple of weeks vacation per year. My trip lasted 2 weeks, with stopovers in San Francisco, Chicago, and Denver. Even though I still had segments remaining on my rail pass, it was still less expensive than buying the tickets for all of those segments separately. If you plan it well it can be beneficial to any traveler. Good luck on your next trip.
thanks for the advice! i just got one on sale, i was planning on using it from getting from ontario canada to the apalachian trail for some hiking, but now i am thinking i can use it to get to the west coast as well. i am not sure i love the idea of sleeping on in coach for two days. did you have any experience good or bad with longer segments? i don't want to spend 1500 for a room.
Sleeping in coach is definitely an acquired skill. I spent 5 nites total in coach. I'm a heavy sleeper so I would say that I slept "okay" in the seat. It's similar to sleeping in a recliner than jiggles at times. They do turn out the lights and have a quiet time starting at 10pm. Bring a night mask and ear plugs, it helps. Looking forward to hearing about your trip. Bonvoyage.
We bought the RailPass last week when it went on sale for $299! We are excited and booked our 10 segments yesterday. I am in the process of booking hotel rooms now. We agree- great price for travel.
@@AngelaIvy-b2j That's great to hear. Can't wait to hear about your trips!!
Me too! Leaving today. First trip Albany NY to Tucson AZ via Chicago.
@LawyerCalhoun1 Awesome!! Looking forward to hearing about your trips!!
Daiias & Fort Worth are the building blocks for the Metroplex - Population 12 - 13 million people. Dallas is 800,000 - 1,000',000 people. Fort Worth is 400,000 - 500,000 people. Metroplex takes in 8 Counties.
@@WJSshanks-e6k the metroplex is a large and populated area. Houston however is even larger buy population and even by geographic size.
What is Your opinion regarding Amtrak's Coach Travel on the Texas Eagle & Southwest Chief? Also what do you think about USA Rail Pass?
@@WJSshanks-e6k coach travel was actually very comfortable on the Texas eagle. Very relaxing. I have not yet traveled in the Southwest Chief. The rail pass works very well for traveling long distances to a variety of destinations. It is a great value.
My wife and I recently retired from teaching and are gearing up for our very first Amtrak journey. After enjoying over 20 cruises, we’re ready to embark on a different kind of adventure. There’s so much of this beautiful country we’ve never explored, and the rail pass offers an economical way to do just that. Right now, I’m in the process of mapping out a logical itinerary to make the most of the trip.
@@SaturnV-l7s That's awesome. I know you will have a great experience. Let me know about how your trip went.
I wish it was true. I've gone from Chicago to Emeryville and back again nine times and never once has there been wine tasting.
Awesome video. Very Informative.
@@TaurusAngel-z9r Thank you and thanks for watching.
What a relaxing way to trip. Love it. Wish I was there, too.
@@mr.h3022 it was an unexpected surprise. Amtrak is trying this feature on a few of their longer routes, like the California Zephyr.
@@PleasureTripping23 Didn’t know that. I think it will do well as that’s a great idea on their part. Thanks for the info.
I wish an Amtrak representative would get on here and and explain what’s going on with the new changes.
Amtrak Rail Pass is awesome! Wish they had a Roomette Rail Pass Version! Great video! We love Amtrak on our channel as you may know! Stay in touch!
@@PrimeTimeTravelers thanks for your generous comments. I look forward to watching more of your videos as well
The loss of the diner and Observation from SanAntonio to Chicago is causing me to forget about taking the train back east. Sorry Amtrak but you lost a passenger. Unless things change.
Yes, Kerry that is a downside to that section of the Texas Eagle. But I'm a person that adapts well... I just pack a couple of meals and off I go. Some of the selections in the Cafe Car are so bad.
Sorry pleasure Tripping, unless Amtrak changes there ways. Texas Eagle is the only train I can use to get back home. When I pay first class rates I expect first class travel treatment, not Airline type meals, and a cafe car where the crew takes up the seats and tables, to do there work.
I am canadian and last year too the Santa fe chief to Chicago. Can't wait to take another trai trip
@@moirabryce5415 That's the spirit I like reading about, a passion for adventure.
I travel all the time by long-distance train; always get a sleeper! I have done DC to Miami, FL probably 6-7 times. And I have taken the Sunset Limited from New Orleans to CA about four times! ❤❤❤
@@tmalfieri1 That is awesome. I'm looking forward to many more trips. Buen viaje!
Traveling LA to New Orleans next week in a sleeper. Looking forward to it.. Great informative video...thanks!
@@cinema15717 Thanks... Good luck on your trip. Check out my video about my trip on the Texas Eagle, which is the first part of your journey.
@@cinema15717 Thanks. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.
Did they have the observation car?
Hi Kami, on the Texas Eagle there was an observation car from LA to San Antonio, but not from San Antonio to Chicago. When the train splits in San Antonio the TE loses that car. It's an unfortuante loss, but the Cafe Car does have several tables you can enjoy.
Depending on the mood of the crew…sometimes they use it for their work😮
