The Wheelchair Skills Program (www.wheelchairskillsprogram.ca) is a set of free online low-tech, high-impact, evidence-based resources for the assessment and training of the wheelchair skills of users (with or without the assistance of their caregivers) of manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and motorized mobility scooters.
WARNING: Many wheelchair skills can be dangerous to perform. We strongly advise against attempting them, at least initially, without the presence of at least one knowledgeable and skilled spotter such as a therapist. A spotter is a person whose role is to ensure safety.

This is a video of all 30 skills that make up the manual wheelchair version of the Wheelchair Skills Test (WST) Version 5.3.1. The person in the wheelchair is an able-bodied 13-year old boy simulating a person with paraplegia. To find a completed version of WST Report Form (Version 5.3.1):

He then turns in place to the left in the wheelie position, ending up very displaced to the right in the finished position. WST score 2.
Descends Stairs

Performs Stationary Wheelie

Able-bodied 13-year-old boy simulating paraplegia performs stationary wheelie. His first attempt at take-off is unsuccessful, but the second attempt is successful. He maintains balance in a quiet relaxed manner, but his hands should be a little farther forward on the hand-rims. Little proactive balance movements of rear wheels. WST score 2.
Gets Over Obstacle

Able-bodied 13-year-old boy simulating paraplegia gets wheelchair over an obstacle. He uses a smooth moving approach. Pops too early. The casters strike the leading edge of the obstacle, then roll over it. WST score 2.
Rolls on Soft Surface

Able-bodied 13-year-old boy simulating paraplegia rolls across soft surface. He starts off the mat and has a transient forward tip due to popping the casters too early. Once on the mat, he leans forward. WST score 2.
Agree!! My dad was wheelchair bound. One person can easily pull the chair up those stairs. Common sense.

Well, I did it on my own. 22 steps, three times a day in Italy. It is important to think of it one step at a time. Looking at it as a flight of stairs which you have to manage with a grown adult, is simply terrifying. One step at a time, means that you can cope. FEEL THE FEAR AND DO IT ANYWAY!
