The world crushed Germany after the first world war and thereby created the environment for the rise of the Nazi party and the axis of evil. We learned, and after the next world war, helped rebuild and nurture both Germany and Japan, resulting in the peace we enjoy today. I love the USA for having the wisdom and understanding to not destroy a culture completely but rather restore damages incurred due to the war. Too bad we can't do the same with our former ally, Russia. Our politics are flawed but our heart was righteous.
That's the beauty of history, we can learn from past mistakes and do better the second time
