The lack of resources, infrastructure, and expert faculty in Panchkhal makes it extremely challenging for AI students to thrive. We’re eager to know the reasoning behind this decision.

Dear Dean, while I respect your insights on the importance of AI, I feel compelled to address the ongoing challenges faced by students studying BTech in AI at Kathmandu University's Panchkhal campus. It’s disheartening to see the focus on AI in other programs while our voices remain unheard. Despite the potential and proximity to resources like Dhulikhel, the AI program here feels neglected. The learning conditions, from insufficient resources and uncomfortable classrooms to the incomplete road infrastructure, are major obstacles. This road, a vital link for our academic and professional development, seems like it will not be completed before we graduate. Coupled with inadequate health services and high living costs in Panchkhal, it’s clear that we are not receiving the level of education or support we deserve, especially considering the fees we are paying. The faculty qualified to teach AI are reluctant to come due to these challenges, and we’re left with instructors more suited for general computer science rather than core AI subjects. We are worried that, if this continues, no suitable teachers will come, and students will be stuck learning AI in a narrow context, mostly related to agriculture. AI is a broad and transformative field, but we are missing out on its full scope. It feels as though AI in Panchkhal has been reduced to just agriculture-related topics, and we lack access to even basic robotics labs. I didn’t want to raise this issue here, but the continued neglect has forced me to speak up. We are passionate about AI, but we need better support from the university to succeed.

HECCAA or HECCAAI might represent a blend of fields in education that emphasize the liberal arts and humanities, akin to how STEM emphasizes science and technology. Programs focusing on these areas are increasingly being recognized as vital to a well-rounded education, offering critical thinking, creativity, communication, cultural understanding, and artificial intelligence. Fully agree with you Prof. Pokharel! While AI can appear intelligent, it currently lacks consciousness. Whether a machine could ever be conscious remains an open question, tied to unresolved issues in AI development and the science of consciousness itself.
