Hello, Just viewed the TR3 drive by it shows a posting of 1y ago with a OHIO temp-tag. Is this Triumph for sale? Where in the state of Ohio are you?

I had one of these cars, srb15286, and srb16884 a pair of 1973 Silver Shadows. Those cars ain't so much money. And I did a lot of the work myself. The slow Windows take the door panel off find the round black device on the window regulator it's called a window break remove and discard. Remove the window regulators clean thoroughly completely decrease the chains washing with dinner till they're completely dry and use wheel bearing grease on the chains reassemble and silicone spray the felt channels you will have fast power windows. Remove the smog pump and the manifold injection tubes Place plugs and holes. Replace front calipers and rotors from an early Silver Spirit, and you will have vented front brakes. Remove the bumper over Riders polish the Chrome reassemble the bumpers without them reinstall and you will have nice slim chrome bumpers without the big ugly over riders. Replace the windshield gasket, with one from replacement parts I think they're in georgia. Replace all four headlights with h1h4 replica headlights from eBay., you will be able to see at night. Mirror tint on the Side Glass blending in all the stainless steel trim for a gorgeous look heat reduction and great privacy. Replace the coil springs and sway bars with hbe suspension kit from Britain not as the Harvey Bailey suspension kit for Rolls-Royce Shadows engineered by the lotus designer, you will have a Rolls-Royce that handles like a BMW drives like a Rolls-Royce the nose will be lower and the tail will be a little higher awesome cornering. Worth every penny. You can't install it at home have a professional do it. Remove the roll top and the console panels peel off all the vinyl by leather to match your seats Trace each vinyl panel on the leather clip out apply spray upholstery glue to panel and leather upholstered a hair dryer, reassemble and you will have a nice leather Dash. I even remove the stained headliner and replaced with a rayon Style in the same color as the leather upholstery, you will have a headliner that will last and look very nice. At a fraction of the cost w o o l. My shadow had 28,000 miles on it, the lady left it in the country club parking lot in the summer and it suffered a lot of sun damage and I had to completely redo everything the wood grain strip and redo have it resprayed and Polished with polyester not urethane, the finished wood will hold up a lot better with hot and cold Cycles.. a flex hose located in the front left side for the hydraulic system can occasionally fail causing the brakes to stay frozen. Occasionally a steam valve inside the radiator, can get stuck causing the radiator to suddenly blast out Steam. Have a professional British car shop overhaul the factory radiator never attempt to put in aluminum radiator on in one of these cars. Too bad you don't have the Rolls-Royce guys I used to have British mechanic in Atlanta and the direct Channel parts from Europe to New Jersey bypassing the dealer Network saved me tens of thousands. And the factory trained Rolls-Royce mechanic in Georgia from England saved me thousands and people not knowing what they're doing when working on one of these cars. Both of those men are gone I sold the cars.

Damn shame the front end color does not match the original deep blue with that touch of pearl in it.. all the repaints I've ever seen never match the factory color. Cool car nonetheless

Very well cared for car. A really nice Shadow is a joy. As a long term owner fitting Avon Turbospeed tyres would improve it. They aren't cheap !

axeljacobs ----- You are correct, headrests wrong way, steering wheel upside-down. I know because I own a 1970 series one. Although the series 2 is an improvement the series one commands a higher price because of chrome fenders and the front of the car is more attractive. There are 2 vents/air-intakes below the twin headlamps. Useless piece of information the upper part of the grill where the mascot sits, is an elongated triangle. That design was inspired from Buckingham palace. Where the royal family stand on a balcony waving to the crowds, above them are the elongated triangles in or on the architecture of the palace.

⁠you are incorrect! All 1972 RR’s (US imports) had headrests installed on the front seats, as was required by US regulators. It was not a later retrofit! I do agree with you though, that the standing height of the car is slightly too high, both front and rear. I have a lot of brochures of the early Shadows, and the rear standing height was actually quite low. They didn’t really fix this problem entirely until the series 2 cars came along in 1977.

The steering wheel is not installed correctly! It is installed upside down! Headrests are turned the wrong way! Whoever restored this car, had no idea about RR’s!😕

Gorgeous. Reminds me in 2007 when my sister and I went to test drive a lotus Elise, and a drunken sales guy walked out to us and first thing he asks, “you guys want to take a drive in a Maserati?” …”sure, why not !” It was an ‘07 Quatroporte, not bad, not bad. Fun fun

Yep ... I remember that... My older brother James had one and went to school in it many a time. His was one of 7 made for Sebring race team. We didn't know it at the time until he sent in for the Triumph Registry and they inquired how he got it. Bought from a guy down the street in Irving Texas around 64'. The guy never told us that. Sure do miss it. Wish we had it back. Love the sound of it and the 64 TR-4 I had. Good memories of those two.

No fix. It is part of the engine's performance on cold starts. Doesn't bother me or anyone else. Tell the people that don't know anything about cars that it is the "turbo spooling up".

@cobraristein i get the cold start air pump whine, annoying and embarrassing when people are around. there is no fix for this?

yeah this is the 4 cylinder esprit. The 4 cylinder lotus esprit can do nearly 170 mph b/c it has a stock chargecooler and a stock turbo. Look at "lotus fast and furious" on youtube

The secondary air pump whines for a minute on cold starts. The oil psr pegs (5) until the car reaches operating temp. At idle, should needle around 1. As long as you see oil psr at idle, you are fine. Cruising at 3000 rpm, the oil psr should be between 2.5 and 3.5. You might even hear some rattling in the ingine compartment for a couple seconds on cold start. Don't sweat it. Keep the rpms up while driving. The car was not designed for putting along a 2000 rpm.

I recently bought a 1999 Carrera and my Porsche does the EXACT same thing, the oil pressure needle goes to no.5 when the engine is cold and I hear this whining sound for the first couple minutes after starting the cold engine. I'm more relieved now because that sounds like it is par for the course for '99 911's and the fact that my car is not defective.
