hello! I genuinely hope this video is useful to someone, I know I didn't cover everything, but I covered everything I know, and then some, so that's something. @kaitekiart7666 a video from them I recommend ruclips.net/video/aI-ufWU9j3Y/видео.html the single source I was able to find with anything new to say, someone better at research could probably find more. www.jcccw.org/nikkei-news/2022/7/2...

Thank you for this video! I love my Kuretake paints and I wanted to know more about them and you’re thoughtful video helped greatly.
Glad it was helpful!
how lovely to see your big palette! i love having lots of colors too. also i got the same feeling about Daniel smith, i have their french ultramarine and somehow that paint will dry and flake off (such a weird thing to say xD) if i use it on yupo paper. and when i ask them about it, it felt like they were just explaining what yupo paper is to me instead of being helpful... 😅but i loved your video, so calm and interesting. oh and i love mixing dioxaxine purple with perylene green for a moody blueish black 🖤
Glad you enjoyed!
If you want beautiful granulations use Mijello tourmaline series. Or Rockwell (canada) paints, they are incredible.
I've never even heard of the Rockwell brand before! Thank you!
Why dont you want to use prisma colors anymore?
They are really really not lightfast
Omg…. I love love watching these types of videos. I love the colors and knowing how artists determine their palettes❣️I still don’t have 1 main palette!! Beautiful warm yellows…. I have a great variety of brands! Love combining warm yellow with other colors in flowers petals… great way to wake up this morning💖
It really is a fantastic way to make glowy beautiful flowers
Love yore color choices! Thank you for sharing 🙏
Thank you!
Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea books have some very cool dragon side characters; Anne McCaffrey's Dragon Rider series: the first few were quite strong
I'll add them to the list!
I love these kinds of videos. Thank u
Beautiful pallette, loved all the colors but then I'm a color nerd too! So, thank you for sharing!😊
Thank you for watching!
the Sodalite "Genuine" is literally ultramarine PB29 with oxide black PBk11 and maybe a little cobalt blue or cerulean
I should get some PBk11 and try that, it'd be nice to still have that color even when i run out
Beautiful selection! Loved everything you had to say about each color :)
Thank you!
I like 24 color palettes, more than that is kind of overwhelming to me, less than 24 makes me feel I am missing colors. Your palette is beautiful.
Wow, i don't know why but the fact that you know the exact number feels impressive
As a new watercolor painter all i have is a 20 color set of Winsor and Newtons cotman watercolor tubes. This video has given me some information to use in the future when i finally have the money to make my own custom palette with some personal tweeks here and there of course. Your palette is amazing, i love so many of these colors and wish i had them for myself.
If you're looking to experiment i cannot recommend Grumbacher academy enough, they are so high quality for a student grade paint, and very affordable. Roman szmal is also quite affordable and exceptionally high quality ^w^
13:53 is it pv55? I believe I have quiacridone purple by Daniel smith and it’s made with that pigment if I’m not mistaken! I agree it’s so interesting because of its warmer mass tone and cooler undertones and for some reason people never mention that about it 😭
The brands website says its pv19 and pv29 Which is an odd combination (to me) But my tube is reeeeaaly old so it might be a different pigment
I enjoyed all of this, fellow colour nerd and watercolor lover here. Your palette is beautiful. I enjoy all those colourful bright colours too. I want to get some granulating ones. Think my fave from this video is the first orange you mixed, gorgeous. Also I liked the dim lighting, nice and calm.
Glad you enjoyed! I liked that orange too ^w^ it has a nice peachy note hiding in it somewhere
What evidence or reasoning do you have for questioning the Primatek colours?
Well, i used to just accept them at face value, but i used to follow a pigment nerd on Instagram (ages and ages ago, don't remember the handle) and they had some doubts, checked them under a microscope, reached out to Daniel Smith, etc. But that really just made me think about it for the first time, the clincher for me is that if you paint a layer of Daniel Smith amethyst its the color of amethyst, and according to them the only pigment in it is amethyst, but if you cut a slice of amethyst as thin as a layer of watercolor paint it would be clear. If you can see through a crystal it isn't pigmented enough to produce meaningful color on paper, and it certainly wouldn't be the same shade as a big chunk of crystal. There are other reasons, but this is the easiest to explain in a comment
@ interesting my son is a geologist so I'm going to ask him over dinner tonight 🤣I've heard similar. I don't like Schminke because I think their super granulating paints are overpriced novelty
Some time ago I was trying to find more information about this topic and it seems that it has to be assumed that the Primatek colors are "enhanced" by common pigments (e.g. PG7 in Amazonite and Jadeite Gen., PV23/PV37 in Amethyst Gen., PB28 in Sleeping Beauty Turquoise ..). This explains why the colors are so strong even though the natural minerals don't show such strong colors when ground as fine particles. There is an official statement of John Cogley (Daniel Smith CEO), where he states that all Primatek colors contain genuine minerals but are "altered" for consistency in a secret way. Since there are no pigments listed on the tube, no one really knows which common pigments (much cheaper than the genuine minerals) could be added and to which extent. "There are some colors that, in our manufacturing process, are altered to assure the paint color is exactly as the tube before it. Not all mineral paint would be consistent without this step. Minerals are NOT consistent, it is their nature. This is a manufacturing process that is private and will not be shared. It DOES NOT take away that every single color is made with real mineral."
@ interesting. It does make me wonder what the role of the mineral actually is in the paint. May try grinding up a few crystals and see what results from home made watercolour.
@@karenirving7088would be really interesting to hear about your results! I think part of the Primatek controversy is that at least for some colors the labeling seems more like a marketing strategy. If they would put something like "inspired by..." and "made with..." on their colors it would seems less misleading. But as a scientist myself I am really curious if we can get more information on that from people who have the possibility to further analyze the components of these colors.
If you REALLY want to gets more colors and more pans inot that palette box, take all of the pans out of the included inner tray, put adhesive magnets on the backs of them (i got a roll from dollar tree) and you can nearly double the pan capacity if you do it right :-) I have gotten currently 66 half pans into the larger size palette you have there and 24 half pans into the smaller sized one just to say how much they CAN hold if you really want them too ! I am a total fellow color collector, I just cant have enough :-) Happy Painting !!
I keep thinking about it, but i love the perfect lines of the metal clips :') I'm just annoyed that i got one where the center gap isn't big enough to sneak in an extra row
@@madden.r.grimes I totally understand wanting the clean look. I absolutely agree so I aligned them all in perfect rows of 11, there are 6 rows so 66 total. It still looks really clean and organized and aesthetically pleasing. It’s also of course fantastic to have so many colors at hand all the time, this way I know I will either already have or quickly be able to mix whatever color I need pretty easily. I also like to keep a little 2-3ml plastic paint pots with lids filled with white gouache and a deep rich black, usually a heavy granulating one. I feel it is defenitly worth the little bit of effort to put the magnets on the bottoms of the pans and arrange them neatly. They stay in place really well . Give it a try :-)
I find lane palettes make colour harmony more difficult to achieve. How do you manage that in your work.
Large not lane 😂
I don't use the whole palette in each painting, I'm not super strict, especially when going for more realistic colors, but i generally plan out what colors I'm going to use, and try to mix from that smaller pool, usually around five colors. Another good tip is an underpainting, it centers the color palette for the whole painting with minimal effort
@ ok I understand I do similar I get confused if I have too many choices
I follow several art channels and they often only post shorts once a week and full tutorials once a month. Cheering you on! ❤
Thank you. Great information. Your painting is lovely. Your voice with the soft background music is perfect. I’m looking for a medium to use for painting on fabric in a “watercolour - like effect” so very interested in these paint sets. I’m hoping the different characteristics will enable me to use them on an uncommon surface like fabric. Your information on how they don’t bleed and repel actually was super beneficial to me as fabric absorbs water and paint spreads differently than on quality artist paper…like it runs along the threads or puddles into a muddy mess! I really appreciated the information on colour fastness. The best video I’ve seen on that. Thank you for sharing your observations, opinions and art. Enjoy your art time. Hello from 🇨🇦
Thank you so much! Good luck with your experiments!
I use Gansai paints very sparingly. Usually they are used when I need to ‘cover up’ a mistake when I paint with the usual watercolours. Thank you for your test.🤗
Have you considered going live some weeks instead of doing edited video?
I have thought about it, but i never really thought anyone would be interested
I absolutely enjoyed it! Learning to do this is definitely on my list. I think my lil neurospicy brain would love mulling paints
Its very soothing ^w^
How exciting about the mural congratulations! I can imagine ribbons being gorgeous
Thank you!
Thoroughly enjoyed your Vlog! Sorry you get headaches and love how you tend to them. Thanks for sharing that and the green silk outfit part was impactful. I only had 3 trick or treaters this year but one was dressed as Minnie Mouse and I was able to provide a Minnie Mouse decoration in addition to the candy. Looking forward to seeing your upcoming projects and pieces for your show. Congratulations!!
Thats really sweet, i bet you made that trick or treaters whole night!
congrats on the mural, thats so exciting!! I love your pony collection
Thank you! I'm very excited ^w^
i'm giving up with astarion..like...he's so undrawable for me! Everytime...i tried to draw him like 15 times and still he doesn't look even close to astarion. Every other character is easy. Like they don't make me doubt my skills but astarion?! Oh and Jinx is impossible for me to draw too..
He's just too pretty 😮💨
Super informative, thank you! I just got the gem set and was looking for more info on the other sets
I also really love the spread with the house and seascape! The style is so bold and powerful!
I need to experiment with it more for sure! Its one of my favorite pages too ^w^
YES!! Those Talenti tubs are GREAT f or being impromptu water cups. Also for storing brushes, tools, pencils, etc... Also, thank you for the informative video about Gansai paints! It truly seems like a remarkable medium to experiment with.
They are such a fun medium!
These are my FAVORITE of all my paints. I love them
This was so mesmerising to watch! Thank you for this detailed intro :)
You're welcome ^w^
Beautiful paints!
Love your themes of stillness, slowness and humans as part of nature. I feel some of this in your videos too. A deer watching you paint!? How gorgeous. Beautiful painting. it's special how swans can embrace with their long necks. Blue-greens with reds just 💋 my favourite.
It was staring at me while i did the voice-over like 👁👁 it was a little creepy tbh 😅
@@madden.r.grimes lol oh ok. Maybe it wanted to be involved in the video.
Whoa, that was so freaking cool! I didn’t even see the swan for a while and then boom she appeared! Having my own gallery show would be a dream come true! So thrilled that you will have this opportunity Madden! ClaudiaSJI
I'm still in shock about it tbh 😅 Thank you!
I just found your channel through your video about kuretake gansai paints. I’m excited to watch you create here whilst also exploring myself through art. Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you! Thats very nice to hear ^w^
Love the music, your whole look there looks like a watercolor palette
you have very nice eyes, what about doing a self portrait with these paints?
Thats not a bad idea!
thank you this is very helpful and interesting............
Very Useful video thanks for sharing. there is such a lack of information on Gansai paints. great video!
I know this is late in terms of when you posted, 2 months ago. Just thought I'd say that the frame size was perfect, this, because more space above and especially below is standard industry. BTW - The drawing you transferred was gorgeous line work.
Thank you ^w^
this piece is truly beautiful
Thank you! ^w^
I've been using Gansai paints for a while but treated them more like watercolours so that video was very interesting and educational, thank you! :) I will look at them differently now (I love them)
Your art is so inspiring. The red swan is such a cool idea! ❤ I don't comment a lot so I don't know what to say much other than that I really adore your work and you make me want to create and get my depressed ass out of bed. Thank you for posting this! ❤✨️
Aw, thank you for commenting! You can make something awesome, i believe in you!
In a way you're right but even we refer to Gansai as "Watercolor". Your pronunciations are fine, thank you for teaching people about the supplies from my kinsmen :) Beautiful artwork and calming easy to understand commentary.
the way you describe the feeling you want to capture in your paintings is beautiful. my main goal has always been just to make people feel emotions when they look at my art - i've never considered anything more specific, and now i'm reconsidering. great work!
although, i guess that even without thinking, i've already imparted my feelings in my work without actually putting it into words. do many artists find it difficult to describe their message? i like to tint all of my work in blue - it's an artistic quirk without meaning, but i think about it often. i want to express something beyond reality. i want to show an emotion that doesn't exist. which is probably impossible, but i've already decided to devote my life to art, so i may as well try. sorry if this doesn't make sense or is needlessly pretentious. i've been in my own head for a long time
I think developing a deeper understanding of your artistic message takes a lot of time, and then you need to figure out how to say it succinctly! Its a struggle and a half
This video was so cool to watch, I didn’t realise it but i actually have a set of Gansai paints and now I feel like I can utilise them a lot more effectively! Thankyou!
Thats awesome to hear!
I've been treating these like they were watercolors, this was very informative!
