I thought I would make some how too videos about mostly Scanner Radios and how to do things, I have been in the Scanner Radio Hobby for almost 50 years and thought I would pass along things I learned about the hobby and scanner radio listening.
Hope my videos will help you with enjoying the Scanner Radio Hobby More. Also will be making videos about HF Radio.

Sounds like something talking big time
dmr slot 2 Frequency - which system need to be in ?
I use the micro usb port to just run the scanner off AC power without always using the battery. have you ever done this?
Bloody Awesome! I'll have to see where I can get that decoder program to work with my SDRuno.
Go to google and type in Multipsk and download from there site, only some of the decoders will work out of the box but if you buy the program, it unlocks all the decoders, there is a learning curve to figuring out all the decoders but lots of RUclipss. If all you want is to decode sstv there are a lot of free programs out there. Saint
The SDS100 has keylock. Press Function then Power.
Only russians / chinese jam Voice of america. But having ionosphere reflection over pole does not sound right to me.
These were KC-46s looking at the serial # and aircraft type for Pack 31 and 32 but it looks like they were working with a 135R too. The breakaway drill was a great catch
Thanks for the information. Saint👍
Explanations well done
Thank you, Saint
Future proof?
Here in the uk poice use o2 air wave it chops the conversation up sends it encrypted on different frequences at the other end decrypt it put it vack yogether abd there you go its got gps and im sure they can access the pnc on it nice peocr of kit😊
It's 2024 and I am wondering where I can find the "Uniden wav player file organizer" or a compritable one like it. TY to anyone who can assist
i have question but it not about psrn i have trunk system in my area but i am wondering how i can make it in to p25 coventional system but im not sure how i can input TG ID in to a coventional group ??
You cant
Well that sucks. I guess we got 4 years extra we weren't expecting. Going to miss knowing what is going on in my town. As of today it's still fleetnet and in the clear.
can you do a video about the diffence about p25 trunk and p25 one freq trunk ??
Read all the comments in this post, there are two pages of comments that deal with this, hope this will help you. forums.radioreference.com/threads/p25-one-frequency-trunk-vs-conventional-p25.185503/ Saint
@steve St Denis it have a key lock press F and than press on/off and you see in the screen on top on the right site a key
Why would you want to be inconspicuous?
There are a lot of business's that will call security, and have you removed from the premises, also some people do not want to hear your scanner for different reasons.
If my taxes are paying their salaries, I should get to hear how my money is being spent.
I dunno if it's like here but they are mostly driving people to detox
No you shouldn't. Your taxes paid for the newest communication system that allows users to work in private. There's no law in Canada that says we can listen.
@@Ejb905 laws in Canada are generally permissive. If it's not written that something is illegal, then it's legal.
@Ejb905 what you are referring to is a right. We do not have a right to listen, but listening is legal, unless of course its encrypted, which it is. We don't really have any rights if you look into it. I will miss the ability to know about an emergency situation before being told about it. We won't know anything when this system is fully operational. Hope they choose to let us know our lives are in danger before it's too late.
We were allowed to listen to communications as long as there isn't encryption. But: we aren't allowed to talk about it publicly. The media using the feeds really pissed a few agencies off.
There needs to be pushback from the public in places that are so encryption happy.
Yes, but almost no one cares but us.
Yup way she goes Ricky
Cmon guys. There's no law that gives us citizens any rights to listen. I doubt anyone on radio reference did anything to stop encryption. It's a combination of affordability. Improved technologies and a reasonable price AND, and fuck the owner of radioreference, the streaming services that pissed off LEO & firefighters. They didn't mind so much the scanner people but streaming sensitive comms that ended up used by the media were a factor at least in county or city systems. It was a hell of a run, for me around 45 years, but it's pretty much dead now
❤ stay blessed
Thanks so much, Steve 👍
From what I understand it’s all running up around 771 MHz and it’s all encrypted everything
MTO Maintenance - West Patrols, MTO Maintenance - Central Patrols are not encrypted Saint
Can use scanner to locate encrypted signal?
My friend I am very interested in learning these things, would you mind putting few links explaining some of the key points of this technial field. I am studying to be a programmer and Im fascinated by these things you do. Btw, is scanning military radio field technically an illegal thing and do you put yourself in any kind of danger when doing these scans. Sorry for the large message and mediocre english😊
As far as any information on FT8 Super Fox Mode you can do a search on Google for any information on this. As Far Aas listening to Military Aircraft it is not illegal to listen to this, again do a search on google to get any more information.
Someone told me what the signal is, it's FT8 Super Fox Mode, just do a search on Google and you will find the information on the signal. Saint
Great video, would love to see more!
Thank you for the reply, I will be doing more refueling videos in the future. saint
how do you listen to this?
Uniden 436 scanner, discone antenna, Proscan Software for logging.
Seen this on ADS-B. Have the receiver, but not the antenna (MLA-30).
srry no led lights , flying the entry-level KC135 : - ) , thks for sharing !!
Yea, this was one of the more interesting refueling exercises.
This video was scantastic
Thanks, I hope it help. Saint
To activate the "key Lock" on the SDS100, press the function and power button at the same time...
Where can I download studio. All I can find is sharp
airspy.com/download/🙂
I have the same set up SPDx with a 41.7 meter long wire reduced impedance through a 9:1 unun and I can only dream of this much activity on 20 meters, or anywhere for that matter. I guess living in Perth, Western Australia has its down side sometimes.
Hi, leakyboatent This is the best conditions I have seen on 20 meters in a long time, I could not believe what I was picking up. All the armature radio operators were really surprised with the propagation too. It's really nice to hear both sides of the conversations so clear. I will keep an ear out and if this happens again, I will make another RUclips video. I tried last night but conditions were not too good. Thanks for your the comments take care. Steve
I have an SDS100 and like to hear what's going on. Thank you for sharing this.
Your very welcome, thanks for posting your comment, enjoy your scanner. Steve👌
when u say u need a key to listen what does that mean. does the scanner come with that key to listien to those freqs
its basically a password to listen to it.
The encryption key is basically a password to protect the data in transit Think of it like writing a coded message to a friend (the authorized operators), if someone intercepted it (a scanner) they'd need the one time pad associated with the message (encryption key) to be able to understand what they're reading (convert the mess of audio into something intelligible) TlDr, it's a password that is combined with data during a transmission so that unless you have the password, you'll just hear a mess of audible garbage. Exactly how they do this is a mystery to me, although you didn't ask for such an explanation so I'll leave my late comment here Also, to answer your other question. Scanners are incapable of having a key to an encrypted system for many reasons ranging from legality to rolling codes (some depts issue a new "password" to all authorized radios on a certain basis) In short, the key today could be 1234567890 and tomorrow could change to 0987654321 which is why it's impossible for them to do this. Further, to my knowledge it's impossible to convert say an SDS100 to be capable of storing a key and decrypting radio traffic with it. You'd need a dedicated radio like the ones LEO use to be able to even get started
Actually, you can run two nooelec sdr dongles into a pc and unincript all of them. It's that simple! 73 KG7POU
I am your new subscribers, i went to more informational content

Thanks. Cool Video. I Love my SDS100 Scanner**** Scan On Everyone*****
BCD436 is great until you need simulcast. Then you upgrade to the SDS100 and find out it's worse for analog. Uniden are assholes like that.
Whenever they get clearance to go into the refueling track.
Do these typically take place in the morning, or is it anytime of day?
What are you using for a radio? I’ve wanted to get something like this going and hopefully, it will work with my screen reader and Braille display!
I am using a SDR Dongle on my computer. you can find them by doing a search on google. Steve
Can you kindly do a video on the setting from the downloading ?
@@khalilmekdachi7070 I just downloaded the unitrunker software, and started it up and in the video, I walk through everything I did, and you need to put in a control channel for the tower you want to decode. Sorry I cannot help you any further, I made the video so people could help me out.
Very good video. Learn a lot. Thank you.

Ah ok.
never seen them do this before, good catch!
Sorry in the video it says Uniden 436 scanner, it should be SDRPlay RSPdx Receiver, I inserted the wrong information. Saint
I'd love to see a vid of your radio set-up and this discone antenna you have, and where it's located. Being right on the edge of the lake helps, but I'm maybe 15 miles from Lake Erie myself.
I'm on the fourth floor 40 feet up, of a six-story apartment building, facing North and have a discone antenna on a tripod out on my balcony. Using a 436 Uniden scanner, quarter of a mile from the Peace Bridge and Lake Erie. Saint
I won’t link it but defcon had a recorded presentation on how they decrypted P25 traffic. You can easily find it.
Orchard park NY police encrypted their signal for a very good reason. They don’t want everyone to know they have 30 cops making 130k a year, yet they get 1 call a day lol. It would be over the top to have 1 cop in this pampered town lol. They’re protecting their jobs because they don’t want the public to know we’re wasting money.
