It's taken MORE THAN TREES to make our company a success for nearly a century. Our forests are carefully planned long before the first seedling breaks through the dirt. From the passion behind a theory proven true in our research division, to the reverence of a forester managing the same stands of trees for decades, to the persistence of our teams who look at those trees through different lenses, our people are what makes Rayonier stand the test of time.
Our 2.8 million* acres of forests are in the U.S. South, Pacific Northwest and New Zealand.
* Numbers as of Dec. 31, 2022.

The Importance of Using CB Radios on Forest Roads
The safety of our employees, contractors, and customers is one of Rayonier’s core values.
Those who drive on Rayonier roads in the Pacific Resource Unit must use CB radios to reduce the safety risks associated with motorized driving on forest roads. This video showcases why using CB radios are required and important.

Thank you Chuck!
Extremely professional video. I’m studying for my ISA exam now up in Michigan and hoping to move into a more permanent position in Forestry. Thanks for succinct explanation and presentation.
Thanks for watching and best of luck in your career!
Is it good field to choose ? I'm considering studying this field.
Shawn recommends it! Forest engineering is a great field to go into. You can learn more about forest engineering in our article about this profession at www.rayonier.com/stories/forest-engineers-build-100s-of-eco-friendly-roads-bridges/.
wow...great...greetings from Indonesia

Well done George and Rayonier!
30% slope is not steep at all ive worked lots of ground 60% with a tigercat forwarder with no winch assist its nerve wracking im the 1st to admit but i cant believe they make you tether some of that ground
On the next video "how firefighters start fire so they can have a budget for next year"
I was looking at the Engineer majors. Then I saw the major called Forest Engineering. Never heard about this major before. I see the work environment is amazing. I hope I join the Rayonier team one day
Best of luck to you! It's an excellent field of study and a job with real demand in the workforce!
😮
I was curious how plywood was made. Very clear and short explanation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like how this Manager or maybe the president of the company explained. Very knowledgeable.
Will did Marsha go
It's great to know this
Cool I want eastern white pine not because of wood more ornamental tree.
What about using a species that will kill off a certain type of tree to make way for future Forest say like kill off the hardwoods to make room for the pine trees is that even possible?
Hey JD. Species like pine trees thrive on drier ground, while hardwoods thrive on wetter ground. So, for example, on our land in the Southeast U.S., we have natural hardwood forests on the wetter sites and pines we grow for fiber on the drier sites. About one third of our land is composed of wetlands and hardwoods that we choose to protect.
@@rayonierinc.4618 hey thanks for the reply my issue is I was wondering if companies like paper mills and stuff would use worms or caterpillars to destroy a forest to make way for a future Forest! I'm finding tiny maggots embedded underneath the bark of my maple trees they don't seem native , they're trying to Winter over under the bark? And in the Summers I'm infested with tiny caterpillars that seem to be targeting my white birch up here in Maine. Just wondering if you had heard of any of these extremely fd up practices by lumber companies!
@@jdsmith5060 it sounds like something your local extension office could help you get to the bottom of -- perhaps an invasive species that came through the ports? Every county in the U.S. has an extension office, and they offer a free service to look at your vegetation and trees, diagnose issues, and advise you.
Fuck this bull shit
Sorry I’m from nz what state is this?
Hey Jack! We love New Zealand and have an amazing team of forestry workers there. This video was filmed in the state of Georgia, just north of its border with Florida near the Southeast coast of the United States.
Thank you 🙏 very interesting
You're welcome!
Ever heard of hemp
Brandon, we actually talked to a Materials Research Engineer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Products Laboratory about that in the article linked below. Here's what he had to say: “Alternative sources [like hemp] could never do economically what wood does. It is the densest cellulose resource we know of on earth. All other resources would require a tremendous expense in transportation costs.” For example, he explains, if a paper mill required 100 tons per-day of wood in order to operate efficiently, that could be reasonably supplied by the forestry industry. “It would be impossible to get that much hemp or cotton or flax. The density just isn’t there,” he says. You can read the full article here: www.rayonier.com/stories/using-paper-toilet-paper-and-cardboard-is-good-for-forests/
And if we dont take the dead wood out of the forest, itll store carbon for a longer time period. Most of the carbon is stored in the soil anyways. And itll be good for biodiversity.
What a great and informative video
Thanks! Stephanie is so passionate about what she does and has a great way of explaining it!
Awesome work. I have a small scale nursery and you've given me a couple good ideas. Thanks
Paul, that's great to hear! Our nursery team has done a wonderful job innovating whenever challenges arise.
What an amazing process
Yes! It's fascinating to think what it takes to make the materials around us!
Very cool to watch this equipment in action. Do any of your veneers go to cabinet grade plywood or is it all construction grade?
Our understanding is that the Pacific Veneer team's customers are primarily using the veneer to make construction grade plywood.
Forest engineer from Finland. Would nice to know how things are different in Canada.
Hi @Konnomaki! We are based in the U.S. and New Zealand -- this video was taken just south of Canada in Washington state. Do you notice a lot of differences in what we discuss in this video vs. what you do in Finland?
Thanks for this. I'm looking to move careers into forestry from being a diesel mechanic for a decade. Trying to gain a better understanding before applying.
Glad it was helpful, and best of luck to you as you make the transition. There was a study out in recent years that said those who work in forestry are some of the happiest employees in the workforce. I hope you find that to be true!
Nice Video. It good to see the sustainability of our forests.
Thanks! Yes, it's all part of an ongoing cycle!
I wish loggers in South America who are cutting down the Amazon jungle could learn from your company.
Over the years in the forestry business working at equipment dealerships, I have heard and seen many horror stories. Caught and trapped in accumulator arms almost always ends in death. It doesn't only close on you, it crushes you. Not to mention the ones that are sharp enough to cut you in half. Safety FIRST! Thank you Rayonier for producing informative videos like this one.
Great Video!

I interned with Rayonier this past summer, and it was the greatest work environment I’ve ever experienced! I strongly recommend to anyone who might be interested in joining.
Thank you @jaydensmith9842 -- we loved having you on the team!
How does someone outside the US get an internship with such a prestigious organization?
Hi nice to see you sir. You are very beneficial in your v log. To be frankly I want to be like you sir. How should I proceed for this. I am from Pakistan. My name is Muhammad Arshad, an associate mechanical engineer in Islamabad. Plz I will wait for your kind response.
Sounds like you are well on your way, working as an associate mechanical engineer. Perhaps there are forestry companies in Pakistan that do similar work? Best of luck to you in your career!
I'd like to see other Trees planted than Pine Trees.
دورود بر شما میشه لطف کنید زبان فارسی پخش کنید ممنون میشم
Thank you. I wish everyone would be as respectful 😢

And what exactly IS that culture?
You can learn more about the Rayonier culture on our careers page at www.rayonier.com/careers/grow-with-us/.
Does this work with most pinecones or does it vary? I want to grow a few black spruce trees
I don't know where 3500 rpm came from! Tigercat specs are 1150, but mine is set at 1250. 3500 rpm would tear the bearings, shaft out of it, not to mention crack the disk
