Secrets of the Huddersfield Line | Leeds to Ravensthorpe
Loving your content! Keep up the good work mate!
Nice video. There are some nice areas, and it is a nice area when it goes into Derbyshire
Isn't it pronounced EASTrington not EastRINGton?
Lots of non stoppers. Most enjoyable !!!
Nice video, haven't been to this station but the Hull and Selby Line is awesome
I've started using the Bradford to hull train and there is some lovely views
The promised high speed line between Leeds and Manchester via Bradford (HS3) has been cancelled, however, work on the new through-station in Bradford on the traditional network between Fritzinghall and Low Moor appears to be frozen?
What's happening with the proposed new station at Haxby, north of York. The new stations in the South seem to be progressing much quicker, e.g., Cambridge South.
Progress with the promised new station Bradford is pathetic compared to the speed of the rebuilding of new stations in the South, e.g., Oxford.
The Beaulieu Park Station has a huge car park and is conected to a new bypass to make access much easier for car owners, compared to the station in the centre of Chelmsford.
Please compare the new stations in the North with the new stations in the South, e.g., the Beaulieu Park Station, Chelmsford and Oxford South?
....Cambridge South?
You know what that’s a really good idea!
Nice update, and like how the old signal box still stands as well
I know, and the old gates are still in place too, all be now covered up
The Morley station is now even further away from the town centre.
I know, but the more expensive option would be to build an underground station which isn’t ideal!
Apologies for the audio being slightly out of sync at around 2:56 and 4:10. These seem to be the only clips affected.
Nice video. think that Ticket Machine hasn't been fixed since February, still was out of order back then.
Very early 80's Open University style..... and so much the better for it! Edit - Oh, have you done D yet? If not, you can do Dewsbury - it has a very nice pub!
Thanks! I’ve technically already been and done dewsbury in Ep1 of the Secrets of the Huddersfield Line series.
Hi my name is Phil I started on footplate in 1961 at Edgeley shed I did 50yrs on railway i started on steam I have driven a number of these in my time I finished in 2011 at Longsight Regards Phil.
Hi phill sounds like you’ve had amazing career on the iron roads! I bet this video reminded you of the old times.
@@RailwaySecrets Hi yes it does but i i enjoy my time on the footplate but thanks for that Regards Phil.
Nicely filmed and willow talks like boris Johnson 😅
Great video, love how the improved Dore and Totley Station with the second platform
Doesn’t it just look amazing! Just a shame they can’t do it to every new station.
you could low moor for L it has a lot of history
Maybe?
One of the main reasons for proposing the third rail conversion was to greatly simplify the clearance problems with o/h power in Bramhope tunnel.
Ah! Interesting, that would explain why they were favouring that idea originally.
Enjoyed this one, love the seat review, Ikea for meatballs and the Sheffield Supertram. Also at 7:05, is that the remains of Sheffield Victoria Station?
Thanks, a video is always fun with more people! I do believe that at 7:05 is the remains of Sheffield Victoria.
No luck catching those Swans then? lol But that is a bonkers and a epic journey between those two stations. great video
Thanks! I thought I'd do something different that no-ones done before, and to be honest wouldn't recommend doing it.
Nice video, never been to that Station
Cheers! and its one of those stations that i'd never thought to go to, but its lovely.
S for swinon {south yorkshire)
Maybe?
Pardon the irrelevance, but do you have a cochlear implant? PS, you didn't mention the swing gates or semaphore signals
For the first question, yes! and I did briefly mention about the Swing gates and Semaphore Signals at about 3:01
K for Knaresborough? I've never been but I hear that it's a real gem.
Maybe? But you'll have to wait and see.
Last time I went on that line, there were manual gates at Hammerton and Poppleton stations - and I think two more between those stations. I cannot ever remember seeing lights at that crossing, must have been installed in the last few years.
Ah Interesting, to be honest looking at the lights, they looked like they were installed recently too.
For R, it might be rather awkward, but Ruswarp? But it has a very slim service.
Ooh! I like that idea, but you'll just have to wait and see.
Could you Doncaster for D due to its amazing history in the railway and Yorkshire its self
You'll just have to wait and see.....
great watch this love the facts many thanks !
Those MTU engines are far too quiet and smoke-free. I loved hearing the turbo whistles and V12 thrum of the Valentas... as well as the plumes of smoke being belched out.
Poor sound, can hardly hear what you're saying.
The sound works and is audible. Might be you device?
Interesting to see on Google Earth that the original island platform at Reddish South actually had a much longer previous length... and it's still in situ (beyond where the power car stopped behind that fence). It's at least another 2 or 3 Mark 3 HST carriages' worth and looks in a solid-ish state, albeit almost completely overgrown and likely very dangerous without a decent repair. Denton's current island platform, on the other end, looks like it would need more work to lengthen once again. There is also some paved space beyond the somewhat arbitrary platform fence as with Reddish South... but the space beyond that is otherwise likely full of buddleia broken rubble or completely empty up until where the two platform lines converge to a standard dual line width on to Audenshaw. Would therefore be a bit of a job to get the latter upgraded if Bee Network are aiming to enable them to take, say, four-car DMUs in the future.
Of course, in Scotland, we still have Inter-City HST initially branded as Scotrail Classic
Shippea Hill was always seldom used. Would be interesting to know if it's in the top ten
Didn't knew text trains existed 😂 great video and remember visiting the station once when Pacers were around
The obvious answer to this lines problem is the redirection of services from Man Vic to Stockport and even beyond stopping at Denton and Reddish South. The track is there and available to be used. The current once a week service takes people to where they don't wont to go
That's the idea of the 'planners'. Make the service 'broken' so they can shut it completely! 😢
Unfortunately, the junction at the Stockport end doesn't have enough capacity for regular trains from Stockport towards Guide Bridge and Stalybridge. If a flying junction had been built as part of the 2000ish WCML upgrade, what you suggest might be possible. But with 5 "fast" southbound trains per hour from Piccadilly to Stockport, plus numerous other trains, you couldn't reliably schedule a regular passenger service for the conflicting move across the junction. Charter, ECS and Goods trains are less sensitive to on-time performance so they can still happen.
@@peeky44 Agree this junction configuration is a challenge. Still believe one train per hour would be feasible. A small park and ride facility at Denton would also allow options for the bumper to bumper A57 users.
There used to be frequent service, but it went into decline when the Newcastle to Liverpool service was switched from Manchester Victoria to Piccadilly.
Another winner Mr. Wingate. The Sleeper looked more cramped than the older Mark III version, perhaps due to the added shower/toilet en suite. Saves sneaking down to the WC's at the end of the carriage in the middle of the night. The slow pan of Glenfinnan did justice to what is an astounding spot. Can I say I was there Pre-Potter. I hope time will allow you to explore The Far North Line a totally different beast often missed by the tourist. Perhaps there's a lot to say for that. None the less, anything north of Forsinard is crazy. Not a road to be seen, just railway till almost Georgemass Juncton and before that the stunning Flow Country that is Caithness and also home to rare wildlife. On to Thurso and the UK's most northerly station. Yet another rail trophy to collect. That's enough from me except thanks for yet another excellent Vid. Time well spent.
Well. There we are. At last. Not only a 43 on show but Jack Wingate who knows how to use his camera. Great creative shots, great trains and full marks from me. Thanks!
It's only the least used because they won't run a proper service on it
Far far more conformation than the (s)Hitachi IETs...
definitely more comfy than the IETs, but not as fast. But sometimes you have to make sacrifices.
Interesting video thanks. A couple of thoughts (please don't see them as criticisms - I can see that you're early in your RUclips career): 1. Nicely edited - sound and video work well together. 2. It felt like something a bit more scripted or a bit more research in advance might have helped - but it felt natural. Too much prep/scripting can make things feel artificial. As others have said, your natural, genuine reaction to some things was great to see. 3. Sometimes you spoke very fast - I've done a lot of public speaking over the years and I well remember in the early days it was really useful to make a conscious effort to slow down slightly. 4. If you don't know something at the time of filming, it's OK. Voiceovers and/or on screen captions for clarification are fine to add during editing. 5. Maybe think about what your 'niche' is. There are loads of rail-related channels on RUclips. If you can find a style of presentation that suits you and is a little bit different it will distinguish you from other channels. I can recognise a Jago Hazzard, Geoff Marshall or Nick Badley video by style alone and that's a large part of why I keep going back to them. 6. Perhaps think about what your intended audience will know. I understood what the Bee Network is and what a Parliamentary Line is but I'm sure many people on RUclips won't. A sentence or two giving them some context might be useful. Overall, I liked your content and I've certainly not seen a class 43 on the Denton line on any other channel (I watch quite a few regularly). That's all great. I've subscribed as a result of this video and look forward to enjoying more content as you develop.
Thanks! Not a bad thing to have some criticism, it shows whats working and isn't. This was one of a few Un-scripted videos I've done. Most videos I film are part/semi-scripted so theres room to make the videos feel as natural as possible. But if you check out the A-Z of Yorkshire Playlist, you see what i mean. Also glad you enjoyed the video.
@@RailwaySecrets - nice one - I'll be sure to check out your other videos. It was certainly my intention to be positive about what I saw and give some thoughts on small next steps, to to be negative. Keep up the great work.
clickbait
Not at all click bait
It really did happen!
@@modelrailwaynoob it is that isnt britains least used station
@@bus3s Considering Teeside Airport station has had services suspended since May 2022, Denton is now the least used, and Reddish South the fourth least used, and he visited both. This is for 2022-2023 as per en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_least_used_railway_stations_of_Great_Britain
Thx for sharing; great video - surely a Geoff Marshall in the making! SUBBED 👍
Perhaps he is like Marshall, but, perhaps, without the cheating on any partners and abuse handed out whilst being picked up for fraud
Great video mate
Thanks 👍
Really lovely to see the Hst still being used best train ever!! thanks for the vid
Glad you enjoyed it, and the HSTs will never be forgotten!
Those HST aware the best, great video mate 😀
Texhnically an HST isn't a class43, just the power cars are. The units were originally class 253.
Was on it, a great tour.
