Build A Quilt

Добавлен 12 янв 2011
I am, Diana and have been a quilter for over 55 yrs. I've been designing & teaching quilting for decades. Now I design and digitizing quilts w/my Build A Quilt Patchwork in the Hoop system. I love how the quilting arts has adapted with time to allow everyone to create beautiful quilts. Build A Quilt is simply, quilting the 21st century way. Build A Quilt is actual patchwork quilting created with an embroidery machine. The strict precision of traditional quilting methods is built into the digital pattern, you are able to create full quilts in no time. You need a 5x7 embroidery hoop and washaway stabilizer. With any experience level one can create quilts from printed patterns or create their own. I have created hundreds of videos for education, inspiration and lots of fun. At Build A Quilt we believe that everyone that quilts is an artist and that together we can all... Quilt Life Beautiful! I would love to have you experience this journey with me.

Hello, I have a question I am hoping you will be able to help me with. I was gifted a embroidery machine that does the 5x7 patterns, but every time I use the machine it eats up the fabric and stabilizer. I think it is something to do with the tension, but I am not sure. Are there any suggestions you have that I could try to get it to work correctly. It is a brother machine.
Hello- it typically is not a tension problem as embroidery machine tension is normally automatically controlled. As I cannot see what's going on, I really cannot give you a proper answer. However, my best recommendation is to find a dealership for Brother through a shop and let them help you. If you were given a machine from a shop in your area, go to them. If you are new, it's best that you take an intro embroidery class at a shop. There is a lot to learn in the beginning. It's easy, but in person guidance will be very helpful. I wish you all the best. Machine Embroidery is a great hobby. 😊
@@BuildAQuilt I have been doing machine embroider for a couple of years now, my smaller machine works a lot easier. the bigger one was gifted to me as a used machine but when I run it, it always tares, nests and bunches up. It is a brother PE770. it didn't come with a manual. But yes. I agree, the next time I get over to Kalamazoo I will take it to a shop to have then look at it. We don't have a repair shop in Battle Creek. Thank you
Hello - I am sorry that you have a drive so far to a repair shop. I understand that as my closest fabric shop/machine repair is two hours from my home. It can be frustrating if you need help. However, if your local shop offers embroidery projects and supplies, they may be able to answer a few questions for you. You might also wish to go to this link at Brother USA and download the manual and quick reference guide for this machine. I do not own this machine, but I was able to download these materials for free. Hope this helps. Quilt Life Beautiful... @@BuildAQuilt Thank you so very much. I really do appreciate that. that was so kind of you.
Hi
Hello 😊
Awesome for I can’t always miss workshops due to Bible Study
I'm glad this will be helpful for you. ❤️
Hi everyone
Is it safe to use on bowl covers?
@JanLam-pb6sh yes. It's fine for bowl covers. Ive made covers for my larger serving bowls. However, do not use in a microwave or the vinyl can melt. Thanks for checking in with us. 😊
Sorry I missed the live.
No troubles. Thanks for touching base.❤️
Love the tutorial. So hard to find anyone doing a tutorial on machine embroidery on Aida cloth. Ah I see Polymesh on back. Did not see that at the beginning when prepping cloth. Thank you.
Hello - I'm glad that you found this useful. I created this video quite a while ago and since then, I have experimented with other stabilizers. I think that because of the sturdiness of the aida cloth, you could probably use a wash away stabilizer as well. The type we use in free standing lace. Then, if you want it removed, wet the back of the project with a wet cloth so that you are not soaking the project. Otherwise a leave in polymesh will keep the project nice and firm and easily framed if that is what you choose to do with the final design. Take care, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas... Diana
Excellent instructions thanks.
beautiful!
😊😊😊
Could you tell us how the quilters dream bamboo washes? Thank you.
I wash cold and dry cool or line dry. I prefer to dry flat.
I’m here watching the replay. Hate I missed tonight!

Sorry couldn't catch the live, watched the replay.
No problem. If you have any questions just contact me at support@sewincommon.com. ❤
Too many puckers. Remove basting stitches in perimeter and as much stabilizer as possible.
Hi - Thanks for your comment. I want to take a minute and give some helpful tips. One make sure to use a wool/silk heat setting on your iron, no higher. If you use washaway stabilizer, your block will flatten out after it is washed away. Washing away the stabilizer also helps by removing the first stitches that are placed on the stabilizer, while leaving the last border stitches for connecting the blocks. Please watch my two stabilizer videos for a complete explanation on using washaway stabilizer. If you have further questions please contact me at support@sewincommon.com and I'll be happy to help you. Take care and Quilt Life Beautiful.
I am really looking forward to the mini courses!! 🎉

That Tula spools. 😍
King size?! My goodness. You quilt them yourself as well? I’m impressed 🎉😮
I have always quilted every quilt I've made. It is a process, but it's as important to me as the patchwork. It's a true feeling of accomplishment.❤️
I absolutely love the quilt! I am super excited about this project. Thank you for all that you do.
Beautiful quilt!
Thank you! 😊
Nice!!! Not long enough, lol
Hope everyone is ok. I’m in SC and We are still without power since about 3 am. Currently running off a generator to keep the fridge and deep freezer going. Lots of trees down here. I’m about to take a road trip to your goodwill. 😂😂😂 what’s the color number for the gray in glide and isacord?
Stay safe!!! I'll post those numbers later today. 😊
HI Tenita- Here are the color numbers that you asked for - Isacord is my favorite, but Glide is an equally great substitution. Isacord in Pearl (very light grey) #0184 - Glide in Smoke #15315. I use these two colors exclusively for piecing my Build A Quilt segments. Thanks for your question. Quilt Life Beautiful...
@@BuildAQuilt thank you so much!! You’re the best.
Thank you for your support.
Thank you for your support.
Also praying for so many folks having to live through this again
I love the table. I’m part of Facebook group and a lot the ladies use the Husky workbench as a craft table. Like you said, it’s super sturdy! I’m about to head home and prep for tonight. Hopefully I finish in time. 😂😂😂 either way I plan to watch the live tonight. ❤
Today, I saw someone online that used it for their sewing machine. She was a garment sewer. See you tonight!!!
I will have watch replay for Wednesday nights is Bible study
No problem. The Replay will be there when you have time. Blessings.
Kudos to your cameraman 😉❤
Also I haven’t used wash away stabilizer yet. I’m still using muslin or no show mesh because that’s what I have already on hand. But I would definitely purchase it through you if that opportunity comes about. 😊 edit to add- I love the idea of the overhead bar with the bungee cord setup. I might borrow that. lol.
I really wanted to use ikea for my setup but the nearest ikea is in Charlotte, NC which is 2.5 hrs away. I don’t think they deliver to me or have the setup. At least back when I was considering it. (Covid times). But now that my son is in school in Rock Hill, SC we plan on visiting IKEA the next time I go see him.
Your set-up is fantastic!!!!❤️
❤❤😊
I hate I missed this live!!
Not to worry. It was impromptu. Do you like the idea of a short Friday Live, say twice a month?
