M140 Blue Laser Diode Array Test Shots at 24W Output Power, Burning Wood, Ignition and Vivid Colors

Part II of testing the high powered M140 diode array, which is a DLP part found in modern projectors. I installed a glass ball lens for focusing the beams at a distance for cool but dangerous experiments.
24W of the Class IV M140 Nichia Blue Laser Diode Array, 445nm-450nm, Intense Fluorescence: Part I

My own custom designed method for powering on the Nichia blue laser array. The array was salvaged from a DLP projector. I sourced the cold-cathode-fluorescent backlight from an LCD Innolux screen. The lamp dissipates about 1.18W of power during operation. I'm using an LM317 custom driver for regulating the current going into the tubes at a steady voltage potential of 8.8V, so roughly 127mA. The driver consists of an adjustable regulator using two resistors and one capacitor. For values, the drop-out resistor is ...
Activated Charcoal Carbon Filter for Fume Extraction, DIY 12V Dual Fan Setup

      @JHERU cool man, I will definitely be looking for that. Your mini-ray tube was definitely functional. I am actually collecting a few of these t.v.s due to them becoming extinct. I'm 47 and while I'm not an old man, I've seen things come and go and looking back, I wish I was a bit wiser. Like my candy apple red, 1985 RX-7. Had I but known.... anyways, I will be collecting several and just hiding them. Not so much for selling an antique but future experiments as well. I mean, have you seen the prices of flybacks lately? And those cathode ray tubes will be worth there weight in,... probably salt, one day soon. The way things are going,... probably sooner than later. Sorry about such a long story here but,... I remember growing up and my parents telling me, as a very young child, to.... back away from the screen, don't sit so close to the t.v. and on and on....I can't help but to wonder what effect, if any, it may or may not have had.... makes one think, ... I mean, our government has lies to us about almost everything as it is,.... I'm sure they didn't, one day, just stop with the b.s. ... anyway, thanks man, I will be watching for those vids.

    Nice, i would love to play with those diodes if they didnt cost $45+ twenty pieces where i live. Have you tried focusing the laser even more? When you point it at the wall it looks like the light spreads a lot, i dont know how possible it is since i dont have much experience with lasers, but i think it would increase the power a lot.

    • @JHERU
      @JHERU 10 месяцев назад

      Hi, thanks for checking out the new video. I have made a few videos on these cheap bare diodes and I haven't been able to power them on above 40mW, even when focused to the absolute limit. In its current state, the laser is able to poke holes and cut through thin vinyl plastic with relative ease and faint wisps of smoke are observed when pointed against thicker materials. Its nothing that I ain't seen before when working with these diodes. In theory, if I were to swap out the lens with a higher quality one and captured more of the light through a longer aperture might increase the total optical power but probably not by much.

      Hello! Thanks for reaching out. All laser eye gear must come from a reputable and certified source. Do not buy from Amazon or eBay. I'd recommend Thorlabs, Laservision or LaserGlow Technologies. For a project like this, I'd recommend laser safety glasses that cover the near-IR/IR wavelength with an optical density of at least OD 5+. The higher the density the better protection there is. For example, glasses that are made for 780nm-808nm of laser light would suffice. As long as the desired wavelength is covered you'll be safe from harmful radiation. I hope that helps!

    Hey cool page brother I first seen your xbox360 laser diode vid and right away caught my attention, I have an xbox360 laser diode and open can , is it possible to set up the non open can with 2 10ohms resistors, 7805 rectifier, what would be an ideal power output for that?

      🙂 Thanks! Appreciate the support. I think you mean the 7805 regulator? Xbox 360 laser diodes are generally quite lower in output power at 5mW max and are good as Class 1M laser pointers. The diodes should only output 650nm red. If you reflect the diode's AR coated lens in the canister at an angle in white light you'll see a bluish tint which is typical of red diodes. I'd recommend a voltage of 8V or a potential thereof at low operating current (20mA-30mA) and go from there. The 7805 driver would work for this and yeah two 10kOhm resistors should be okay, I'd configure them in-series across the P+ pins or in parallel config at a lower voltage.

      @JHERU thanks I appreciate that I'll can definitely steer my way around now, hey have you done any laser lightsabers I have been seeing them around lately

    Nice laser, could you do a more in depth video on the design of the laser. I would enjoy a walk through video on how to assemble one. Thanks for the video.

      Thanks for the feedback! I can probably pull off a laser build walk through within the next few videos coming up, since I already have a dozen laser diodes and modules on hand. Hopefully my videos have given you at least an idea of where to start and what to expect.
