Welcome to Sailing Amoray!
We are an ordinary Australian family of 3 who have made our dreams become reality. We recently brought our first sailing yacht “Amoray” and are setting sail up the Queensland Coast and hopefully internationally one day soon (if COVID restrictions ever ease). We want to create videos so that everyone can follow along our journey as we learn and discover what this beautiful world has to offer, as well as creating lifelong memories for our daughter.
We will be releasing weekly videos every Sunday (AEST) to keep you updated on our travels.

Spearfishing Coral Trout. Sailing Fitzroy Reef (Sailing Amoray) Ep25
Well, I hope the saying 'better late than never' still applies to uploading RUclips vids as we know we have been MIA for a few weeks so a big APOLOGY if you have all been missing us!! All will be revealed soon (we promise).
We continue our reef hop south and arrive at Fitzroy Reef, which is located 32nm east of the town Seventeen Seventy. The reef covers 2000 acres so there is plenty to enjoy and explore. You can only get here by private boat, so we pretty much had this place to ourselves, other than the odd fishing boat who would arrive late in the afternoon and be gone by sunrise. Although there is no land here, the lagoon offers lots of protection and a calm anchorage.

HAUNTED by Island Birds! 🧟♀️🦜 Sailing to North West Island (Sailing Amoray) Ep.24
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.3 года назад
After a week at Yeppoon Marina (escaping the roll at the Keppels) we couldn't resist the most perfect weather window to head out and explore the Capricorn and Bunker group of Islands. First stop: North West Island. This island is the largest coral cay in the Capricorn Group and is a pretty popular camping spot - especially if you are into fishing. The island is only accessible by barge and acce...

We leave from Goldsmith Island for a quick sail to Keswick and St Bees Island for the night! Our goal for our trip south was to try and visit as many places that we missed on our way north and these islands didn't disappoint! We stop off at Middle Percy Island again, however this time we chose not to film as our previous episodes show off what we thought was the best yacht club in Australia...i...

We continue our sail south and stumble across quite the little beauty on Thomas Island. We initially missed this island on our way north earlier in the year, however after hearing AMAZING recommendations from our mates we decided we had to go there. The Whitsunday Magic Miles book states this island is the closest to the 'Pacific Island' feel that you will get in the Whitsundays....and they wer...

After hanging out at Horseshoe Bay (Magnetic Island) waiting for the next lot of northerly winds to kick it, we finally set sail at 4am. We like start sailing either at night/early hours of the morning to make the most of the time Adaline is still asleep! This mean less time she is on the boat and more hands to help as we don't have to focus on Adaline. We had only planned to sail to Cape Upsta...
Goodbye Whitsundays, Hello Seasickness 🤮 Sailing Whitsundays to Townsville (Sailing Amoray) Ep. 20

We finally said goodbye to the Whitsunday's after an incredible 8 weeks exploring the islands. Despite being so late in the 'season' we headed north, passing in the opposite direction to many other boats sailing south away from cyclones. We had heard incredible things about Cape Gloucester Beach Resort so we made sure to visit! We were very thankful for some steady land to relax on as it was in...
Reef hopping the Great Barrier Reef continues - Little Black Reef (Sailing Amoray) Ep.19
Просмотров 1 тыс.3 года назад
Join us as we continue our reef hopping adventure to Little Black Reef (a short sail from Hardy Reef). With little information available on this reef, we were fortunate enough to hear some other boats on the radio that were already there. With a quick call, we found out some finer details and we were on our way. We said goodbye to our mates at Hardy reef and sailed across to Little Black reef. ...
WILL WE MAKE IT? 🤔 Sailing Bait Reef to Hardy Reef, Whitsundays (Sailing Amoray) Ep.18
Просмотров 2 тыс.3 года назад
We FINALLY make it to the outer reef! We had been waiting weeks for a perfect weather window to sail to the outer Great Barrier Reef. With no wind in site, we motored out to Bait Reef. We spent the night here snorkelling, diving, paddle boarding, swimming and hanging out with mates. We were visited frequently by the resident GT and Maori Wrasse. It was EPIC. Just when we thought life couldn't b...
A tour of an ABANDONED resort - Happy Bay, Long Island (Sailing Amoray) Ep. 17
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk through an abandoned resort? Join us as we take a look around the once popular 'Long Island Resort' at Happy Bay, Long Island. We were lucky enough to have our honeymoon here in 2011 so it was really sad to see it now abandoned and run down. We met the caretaker who lives on the island and he invited us into the resort. Unfortunately, many of...

With food and gas supplies running low, we decide to do a quick (2 hour sail) run into Airlie Beach. We planned on just anchoring at Abel Point to avoid paying expensive marina fees, however because our insurance does not cover us at anchor/on a mooring in this area, one of us had to stay on the boat. As Jon has more experience, we decided it would be best for Janelle to go and do the shopping ...

With our visitors gone we set sail to explore more of what the beautiful Whitsundays has to offer. We try something we have ALWAYS wanted to do but never been brave enough to risk loosing our drone over and we hit up Daydream Island for a bit of reminiscing on our wedding day. With some strong winds forecast for the next week, we head on over to Cid Harbour - which is a very protected, all-weat...

We take you on a very quick journey of just some of the beautiful spots around the Whitsunday Islands while we have some special visitors onboard. I don't think we have ever been so happy to pick up anchor and set sail. Don't get us wrong, Island Head Creek was a beautiful anchorage, but after a week stuck there we were ready to explore somewhere new. When we arrived at Middle Percy Island, our jaws dropped as when we had originally planned to stop here, we never realised just how beautiful it would actually be. Middle Percy Island is the...

With Jon's parents back on dry land, we pick up anchor and leave the Keppels at 2am for the long sail to Island Head Creek before a week of strong winds hit. With not much wind, we are forced to motor for 10 hours to reach our destination. Island Head Creek is a pristine, but very isolated, all weather anchorage between Yeppoon and St Lawrence. We head to Yeppoon to pick up Jon's parents and sail back out to Great Keppel Island. We have an amazing few days, making the most of having the Grandparents on board. We get to spend some time together, exploring under the sea with our new scuba diving gear, while Adaline hangs out with her Grandparents. We learn a very big lesson about one of the many reason NOT to tow your dingy. We won't me...

Are we crazy? We bought a BOAT!!!!!
Hey guys just wondering when you headed north? We are waiting til april (after cyclone season) but we want to go now 😂❤
haha just go now!! Seriously summer is the best time to cruise, no crowds and no crazy SE storms. We have found in the past the risk of cyclones is way less than these crazy storms down south. We are still north at the moment :)
❤❤❤
Watching your vids wishing it was us, but it will come 😅 are you guys still in QLD or have you sailed down south to Adelaide ❤
Why is there a care taker there the whole time ??
To make sure people don't go wondering the resort and injure themselves (so we are told) and I guess to stop vandalism.
Such a shame to see the resort abandoned we also spent part of our honeymoon at the resort back in 2010, have fond memories of cocktails on the beach watching the sunset and having drinks at the swim up bar.
I know! Its so sad to see. I was only looking back at photos from our honeymoon in 2011 and there were sea planes, boats, jet skis etc in the bay. Crazy to see it now
Wow that was a flashback I used to work there. It used to be crazy busy!! Also had Contiki and backpacker travel groups used to come there all the time. Thanks for the footage!
Hi Just watching some of your great videos, just wondering what size outboard you have on the highfield and its length ? I’ve got one 2.5m long with a 9.8 2 stroke and struggle to get it up in the plane with 2 adults. Enjoy !!!
Hey! Thanks for your comment. We had a 2.6m with a 9.9 4 stroke. We put a bigger cav plate on it to help it get on the plane a bit easier but still hard at times. We noticed a huge difference when we upgraded to the 3.2 Highfield
Today I went with my husband to Happy Bay, is so beautiful 😍
Wow wonder what its like these days ❤
I went there three days ago and it is still very similar to what is shown here. Care taker in residence and a little work going on but not much progress from what I could see from behind the signs.
Hey guys 🥰 I was over on Instagram and wanted to make sure we are subscribed and yes of course 😊❤ enjoying your content x Jacinta
Boat life is the best life 🥰 might see Yas at sea x Jacinta newest subscribers 🐬🧜⚓💦🌈🤙
It is seriously the best!!! Hope to see you out there!
Looks fun but are you sure those waves were 5 metres 🤔
They were not all 5 metres lol just like we mentioned in the description just prior to crossing the coast guard called us saying their wave buoy had readings of 5m
where did you anchor at Brampton? Also was it rolling?
we went there over 45 years ago and have happy memories, now sailing like you, but in greece!
little smear of vaseline on your mustache is all you need mate
Stayed there for a few days about 25 years ago, really nice always wanted to go back, got sold for 20 mill last year and will be turned into a upscale resort apparently
just stumbled across this episode. We're about to head north in a couple weeks, and Pancake is on our call in list. Wondering how far you went north and are you still cruising?
Are you guys spearing on the inside of the reef? Cheers
Used to be referred to as PERCY HILTON... If you arrive...look for "Dr. No" sign...above one "KOKOMO" Sir SEAN CONNERY's first film (Dr. No) and the yacht he was often a guest on (KOKOMO). Visited here many times.
Was the care taker Dave Tobin aka Spider????
Binge watching your videos! Love them:) We are in the process of purchasing the same boat, Dufour 425. Would have loved to see a video of the maintenance performed. Cheers from Canada!
I Don't understand how being born with, or inheriting enough money to sell out and retire to sailing at your young age on a 1/4 or half a million usd boat can possibly be considered ordinary. please, enlighten us, if ya'll would be so kind.
Have just come across this comment, sorry 2 years late but sorry to say we certainly were not born with, nor did we inherit enough money to buy this boat, retire and set sail lol. We worked extremely hard, made some good investments in property and we still work when we need to :)
@@jonathanashby2089 thats awesome and how i did it.
Great footage thanks for sharing
Nice , did you find a patch o sand to anchor at Block reef
Fantastic, enjoy and sail safe
If the dreaded wide bay bar is so dangerous wide to to people even attempt it ...wouldnt it be better to just go around the top of frazer island...esspecially if you have kids...
It is the longest and most dangerous bar crossing on the east coast. Nothing like 5 metres. treat it with respect and it is no problem.
Hi. If you are sailing with an asymmetrical spinnaker your apparent wind will be good if it’s say 100 degrees around to about 140 degrees. If the spinnaker is collapsing, it is probably getting blanketed by the mainsail so ease the sheet out until the spinnaker fills and then trim the sheet in until the luff is curling. If you want to sail deeper than this, say 145 to 165 apparent (no deeper) ease the spinnaker tack line to raise the tack and allowing the spinnaker to roll out a little to windward. Practice in 10-12 knots at first. Best of luck. Andrew Knights. Moor R&R.
great video. I sub'd to honor your journey ( and hopefully see much more spearfishing!) Keep up the great work!
Great video again 😀 Spear fishing looked fantastic, sure they tasted great 😎
👍❤️
Great episode, thanks for sharing guys!

Maybe grab a wine and a beer , and just chill , drop out a shit load of chain and enjoy the storm

Thank you 😘
We have only just realised that there seems to be a problem with our regular introduction not playing on this video. Apologies for making you sit through a black screen. Not sure why it has done this as we always watch and rewatch our videos before and after they have uploaded 🤷🏽♀️ I have rewatched the original saved hardcopy of this video and no issues 🤦🏽♀️ Has anyone else had technical issues like this?
I used to work there, and I get super nostalgic about it. Was such a beautiful place. Thanks for the tour!
Glad you liked the quick tour :)
We just went there, but the grumpy care taker chased us away, saying keep off its private property…I wonder what activity is going on there….
Fair wind to you guys. Thank you for sharing 😁
Thank you 😘 Same to you
Get the gear off ,grab the shampoo & have a shower in the rain ,that’d be unreal I reckon, that’s what your old man would do ❤️
Yeah we haven't got to do this yet, but cant wait until we can. The lightning this storm was crazy! Haha could totally imagine him doing it 🤣
Entertaining footage once again, you are definitely living the dream, lots of fun and laughs and watching Adaline (Ratbag) grow and loving her back yard 😘
Thank you 🥰 we are certainly living our dream and cant wait to be back out on the water! ocean life definitely suits us better
adaline is full boujee. and Johno climbing the tree was hilarious.
so I totally just had to google what boujee meant 🤣
@@SailingMallana hahahaha.
We had a fantastic stop there at Sea Eagle Bay on Thomas a couple of years ago and were fortunate to have no roll at all. It's a great spot.
That’s amazing to know that you can stop there and have no roll! It was so deceiving when we arrived, it looks lovely and glad but I think because we had easterly winds it was holding us side onto the swell! We ended up putting out a stern anchor for the night which made it a lot more comfortable.
If you’re going to climb the tree Filipino style you’ll need to be much shorter 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 good job guys 🥥 🥥 🥥
Haha dam it! Did I have the technique right though?? 😂😂🥥🥥
Why Aussies wanna leave the Land of Oz iz beyond me. More boats. More people. More challenges. After I've explored Oz maybe I'll explored NZ. Then the islands of the South Pacific Have a Bonza time Cheers Gray
100%. I think at first the thought of sailing overseas is so glamorous, until you realise how much beauty Australia has to offer. Don't get us wrong, we would still love to explore overseas but we will spend (this year at least) continuing to explore Oz. Like you, we would love to sail around NZ before heading into the Pacific.
I love Jonnos hat,I want one🤠🤠
Haha does it make him look like a confused sailor? 😂😂 he loves it though! It doesn’t fall apart like all his other straw hats 🤦🏽♀️ I reckon you would look great it one 😜
Persistence Pays in most things including tree climbing. Search RUclips for how others climb coconut trees Cheers Gray Brisbane
Persistence definitely paid off on this day, but a few battle wounds came with it 😂 we will have to RUclips a few more videos before our next attempt 😂 thanks for the advice though 😍
@@SailingMallana two powerful words PERSISTENCE PAYS
Another fantastic video of your amazing adventures, looking forward to seeing where you next sail takes you when you set sail again 😀
Thank you 🥰 we cant wait to be sailing again and exploring new places
l sub to your channel so now you have 400sub 😁Pretty cool channel l will look more videos, so far I watch only one, but looks good.
Your amazing, thank you!!! just checking out your channel now :)
@@SailingMallana haha thanks, if you like DIY projects then maybe you will like what I'm doing there. But if not, then most likely you will not find it interesting. Anyway, do you have your own air compressor to fill up the diving cylinders?
As ever... Lovely episode! Happy for you to live the dream for us. Interesting to compare your trip with another we recently enjoyed from RAN sailing, as they were locked in to a marina in the Swedish Islands, by ice. Yes, the sea water froze over! They too are travelling with their young daughter. ruclips.net/video/fxMpQRK-qBs/видео.html
