I think i get what they are doing in a team setting : Several vocal bassists going as deep as their voices and lungs allow them, 1 lead vocal bassist, they chant mantras to go deeper and deeper. If they go too far there is a chime done by the "observer of the group" First they warm up together, then they follow the lead bassist, and guide the lead bassist to go deeper to push the mantra chants into a the lowest vocal frequency. There is a certain connection with the "abyss" there. If the lead bassist is going to far in, the chimes pull him back. You can hear the lead pushing in further. The lower you can go the more the "abyss" pulls you I guess. Of course the mantra must be known by heart.
