The 1999 Exploris Museum grand opening in downtown Raleigh, NC. It carved a bold niche in the museum world in 1999, calling itself the first global experience center but it never lived up to the hype and failed. A version of it is still there.

This is so cool! Thank u🙂
Wow, what a blast from the past! Hurricanes are a big part of my memories from growing up in Wilmington. But also, I had such a crush on Bryan Moore when I was in high school. Chris Marshall, too. 🤣
😳😳🫢
Hi Brian I started my TV reporting at WECT too. Murph and Frances were my anchors too. That was in the late 1980’s
Would watch WECT from Fort Bragg growing up
🎉 Good post!
Talent! 😊
Good memories of WECT
New Hanover County
Elizabeth Gardner at WECT before she went over to WRAL.
Awesome! See you there!
Love looking at these videos. Bring back memories
Love you so much Bryan. You did a wonderful job with this. Thank you again, Carol.
I went to this middle school, but not the museum I went to the Exploris that was not at the museum I was there after well after the move to Hillsborough. Now Explorer is Marbles Kids Musuem.
This is from 1994
I am guessing this must be what is now Interstate 140! The residents must have been successful. If you look on the map, I-140 makes a northwest turn before you get to NC-133.
Thursday, November 24, 1994. It was Thanksgiving Day 1994.
Eric is still in the business, currently works for Gray's WMBF.

Great memories
WLFL was a great choice of news, and did so much despite of Sinclair's budget limits................
Yeah it had a quality product just like WPGH!!! Will need about 45 million or I could partner up with you to buy the stations!!!
My parents recorded some Channel 22 stuff (including some closes)......too bad we lost those cassette tapes. Glad that someone else's gotten some....and from the inner circle of WLFL's news department too! Thanks bro!
Ahhhh Bill........now at WNCN. Wonder why he isn't in WRAL considering he is great talent here....?
Great find Bryan! Mike Solarte was fortunate enough to jump ahead into the successful News 14 Networks (now named "Spectrum News 1 NC").......great sports anchor.
Did WLFL ever consider expanding for more news???
They always talked about starting a morning show. When Sinclair bought WLFL, they put that idea to rest fast.
@@bryanmoore963 Yeah Sinclair is a terrible company!!! It would've help you guys out a lot especially with the other three network morning shows going on the other stations at 7am. You guys going rom 6am-9am would've really helped I think after you guys lost FOX that's what screwed y'all over!!! I guess they loved Baltimore over you guys!!!
@@bryanmoore963That would have been nice. If WLFL did it now, Channel 50's slot would crush them lol
@@friesareyummy oh yeah I'm surprised they lasted 9 years compared to our 15 years!!!
@@friesareyummy Well channel 50 didn't have news until there affiliation in 1995-2004 when it was put in the WRAL brand.
Is that Johnathan Solarte who now at Spectrum News here in Raleigh!!!
@@friesareyummy I'm currently permanently suspended of Twitter waiting my appeal.
@@gavinproduction7433 damn
Nobody watched WLFL news and nobody watches Spectrum News. He really isn't going anywhere is he?
@@brianbade6183The now Spectrum News 1 had a period of success though......so even if there's no rating now, he's probably still getting a decent salary and good retirement money lol
Wow more vintage footage, Bill Reh whose been at every station in this market!!! I'm sure if Raleigh had a fourth news department again he bolt to them. Cause he hopped around every station in the market!!!

Be waiting for clips from wect 6! Love seeing them
Same here. I want to see more clips of WECT from the late 70s and early 80s.
I wish WLFL brought back there news department!!!
Why did this and other WECT pop up on recommended
Use to wake up to Carolina in the Morning when I was in school. RIP Shirley Gilbert
We could receive WECT in the Cumberland County region as a teen in the 70s
👍🏿👍🏿
I assume this was when BELO still owned it, or when they recently cut ties with Time Warner Cable.
Even in 2019 everything on WECT still looks like it's 1985 for some reason. Frances Weller, on the other hand, apparently does not age at all.
Thank you for these memories I remember these commercials and wect in the mid 90s it brung back memories
Rest In Peace Murphy ! My first TV News job was there
exnewsanchor Best toupee in the business.
Same here.
He did that on purpose when he said Fran. He sounds kinda pissed off!!
Its now BellSouth
In this video, WLFL-TV WB22 had cool news graphics and interesting music known as Newswire!!! Rest in Peace, Bob Vernon.
The announcer guy was Richard Malmos and the music was Newswire!
Fond memories of watching WECT in 80's, Ken Murphy and Frances Weller were there along with Geoff Hart, now longtime WYFF anchor. Good to see former Weather Channel Meteorologist George Elliott too...
Remember them from the mid 90s living with my grandma. Rip grandma
Just wonder update news or more details?
Sorry to hear that Bob Vernon passed away. Great voice and presence.
Wow, they had Larry Van Nuys that long!? It made sense in 1993 when they were Paramount owned, but...seriously? (The NMSA still doesn't credit him correctly with WLFL.)
