Je me suis promené au bois de Vincennes à Paris.

This is one of my favourite pieces to both play and listen to. I must be playing in this recording as I was a member of the orchestra at the time. It sounds fantastic to listen to it again now.

Concerto di Paganini su Uto Ughi?

fajne, bravo !

Sin duda diré que es esta una versión de las más bellas de este ciclo de Mahler. Tanto por la mezzo como por el modo de sonar la orquesta. Tiene vibración trascendente. Una densidad y a su vez diafanidad, que te llevan a un mundo de un lenguaje que habla a través de colores además de palabras y sonidos .

Andre Watts has a hugely radiant sound. His hands glide to and fro on the keyboard with great assurance and artistic ease. He demonstrates how Brahms melded fire, ice, and ether to create a masterpiece that soars and hovers above all the peaks and valleys of mankind’s temporal experiences. Some years ago he was featured in the first piano concerto of Brahms At Baltimore’s Meyerhoff Hall. He transmitted keen insight into that turbulent first movement which I had for years found frightening and enigmatic. Brahms 2nd. Is considerably more accessible and emotionally amenable. I love this translation by a well known and beloved interpreter. PWG

In many ways he represents to me, the last of a generation of great masters that emerged out of the mid to later 20th century. Gil Shaham also comes to mind. James’ timing, his turn of phrase is impeccable, I would say “truthful” where we actually sense the intention of the composer shine through. So much of the newer talent although they have incredible technical brilliance (which of course Ehnes has in spades) lack something profound to say and instead inject all sorts of affectations that interrupt the flow of the phrase and draw attention away from the actual music to themselves and their prowess. I’ve had the pleasure of playing in an orchestra he soloed with several times. What a privilege!

James Ehnes' technique is perfection!
