    Would it be a good idea to put the dummy load at the feed point of the antenna down at the end of the coax? It seems that it would be able to reference the coax for any distortion. Or is it better to put the dummy load at the back of the radio?

    This is about hte worst antenna comparison test I have seen. 1. Placing two vertical HF antennas less than 1 m apart is disaster. 2. Testing the influence of the coax cables is meaningless. The differance in loss for 5 m cable at 14 MHz is about 0.1 dB. This is insignificant. 3. Testing the JPC-12 without splitting the ribbon cable and distributing the radials is a big disadvantage for this antenna.

    One major thing I learned from this video is that more expensive radios and antennas doesn’t make for a better station. That using the Xiegu G90 with the JPC -12 can make for a very good station for less than 50% of the money spent. For travel to POTA Parks, lighter is better, especially when it comes to flying around the country on vacations. I also think your testing methods could have been easier and better by using just one coax cable, no outside tuner for less connections or connectors, where most of your loses occur in the field. I think the objective should have be to compare antennas and not antennas vs coax cables, those can be done separately in my opinion. However, with your test, I think the comparison could have been bias towards one antenna vs the other but you did a fantastic job in preventing that bias from coming into play. 👍

    Did I miss you playing what the receiving antenna sounds like? Is the sound more pleasant? Can you hear qso's on the lotg that you cannot make out on the transmitting antenna? Would I rather listen to the receiving antenna than the transmitting antenna? The loop on the ground is extremely attenuated. If noise levels are high and signals are otherwise strong then the log is great. But faint stations are difficult to pull in with the log.

      I presume that this feature is to improve transmit intermods, to make them better than about -30dBc. I'm not sure that would make a discernable difference to the tx audio; I think the intention is to reduce intermod products outside the nominal tx passband so that interference, with freqeuncy-adjacent stations, is markedly reduced. But I would be interested to know whether I am correct. I wonder what the v1.40 firmware notes have to say about this?

    Thank you for the purchase and testing. You could also try using the 7610 preamp with the LoG as sometimes it can make quite a big improvement on the SNR without increasing the noise floor much depending on local conditions. I tend to use my LoG with the 7610 on the sub RX exactly the same as your demo shows with headphones on, my DX Commander in one ear and the LoG in the other. It's really cool to hear signals move from one side of your head to the other as the propagation of the signal changes. Matt M0LMK/KI5GXV (LMK Technical Solutions)

    How does the LOG compare to the Wellbrook? I have a Wellbrook, but fed with a different amp (the amp blew and I replaced it with a Cross Country Wireless loop amp, which works very well and has very deep, very sharp, nulls), and it is so quiet compared to my triangular loop (20m perimeter, with a 4:1 balun, fed at the apex - 6m/20ft agl, lowest points are about 3m/10ft above ground, so its sloping at 45 degrees or so). The triangle works really well as a TX antenna on 20-10m but is really noisy - rather like your DX-Commander (I suspect because they are vertically polarised, well I presume my loop is vertically polarised as it is top fed). I use an MFJ1026 noise phaser, with the active loop as the auxiliary input, which really helps to get the noise floor down. I've considered a LOG a few times and I can get 100-130ft loop in the garden (60x60x30x30ft, so in theory 180ft would fit but would be up at the house and too close to electrical feeds, etc.). I will be interested to see more comparisons as you get the loop configured properly. My area of interest for a project like this would be VLF-80m DXing, from a receive perspective, obviously. 73, and thanks for the videos - HNY '24, de G4UCJ - IO91ox

    Disconnect the RX antenna coax at the back of the radio and see if it stops. You said that the RX antenna was grounded on that switch, I suspect the ground is picking up the signal now... I'm curious what the result is. 73.

    • @HamRadio200
      @HamRadio200 9 месяцев назад

      Excellent point. When setting up for this video, I did just that. I was getting my radio setup to track frequencies and familiarizing myself with the main, sub and antenna switches. That's when I noticed the bleed over, with no antenna connected to the RX port. Coax hooked up and grounded seemed to make little if any difference. Once on my 7300, I listened to an 80m net without an antenna hooked up. Of course only stronger signals came through but that illustrates even further the sensitivity of these radio receivers.
