    The FIRE number calculation is super insightful, but do you think the 4% rule still holds up given today’s inflationary environment and evolving market conditions?

    • @FIREPsyChat
      @FIREPsyChat 9 часов назад

      Great question. Inflation in your FIRE calculation should be based on your expenses, and your expenses alone. It’s why you recalculate your number in January every year to see where you are

    Im age 43, I just opened a Roth IRA for myself and wife (spousal) to 7k limit. I have traditional 401k as well moderately invested. Is the best strategy to invest the Roth IRA the same as Trad 401k, or consider more aggressive, like all S&P Index and hold?

    I got out of the army 11 years ago and forgot I had some money in a TSP till recently. Was able to get into the account and saw I was in a G fund the entire time. I wish I looked more into what investments I was in because the returns were painful low compared to other funds. I was 18 when I set it up so I never really knew a lot about the TSP

    Great video. The only issue I see is this looks to not be inflation adjusted. So the figures in your 50s will be materially lower. Even if you assume that the CAGR is inflation adjusted and you are expecting a 10% return which is 8% after adjusting, that would also mean the income increases of 2% are as well. Which would mean you are actually getting 4% increases each year which is a little bit harder to justify. Not saying that is uncommon at all, my company does a 4% salary adjustment each year to count just for that. Though, I wanted to mention so people realize that caveat. Nonetheless, it really was an informative video. Thanks for the content.

    5:30 $15,000 (post tax income) Roth TSP contribution @ 22% tax requires ($15k /0.78 =) $19,230.77 pretax income thus ($19,230.77 - $15,000 =) $4,230.77 tax not $3,300 tax.

    Excellent video. Thank you for sharing. Once you retire, one option is to keep 3-4 years of living expenses in the G Fund, using it as your cash account, and just transfer your stock portion to your Roth IRA and Traditional IRA. And just refill your cash bucket, the G Fund, when stocks are up. If your MRA is 57, you can use the Rule of 55 by just drawing on the G Fund until you reach age 59.5 while letting your stock funds grow in the IRAs. I'm assuming that is allowed.

    The answer is that we really don't know. We can use a return rate base on historical data, but similar future returns isn't guaranteed. The probability of achieving future returns goes up the lower the return rate. So a 4% aveage yearly return rate is more likely than 7% and 10%.

    If you don't mind constructive criticism. This was very hard to follow. You come in telling us what a tariff is but the vedio is titled how it effects us. So you start to go into it but you say that's a topic for another time. Then you say something completely unrelated in conclusion. Even without tariffs Chinese companies that Americans buy from can raise retail prices.

    I'm 55 and have $2.9M in retirement savings. My emergency fund is at 6 months. My FI goal is $3M, with annual expenses of $100k to $120k. My home is worth $260k. I earn $160k, and I'm debt free. It looks like I need to stay the course for a bit, let my retirement funds grow to $3M or more. In the meantime I'll build up my emergency fund to a year.

    If your employer’s current 401(k) does not allow after tax contributions, but you have a self-employed business with your spouse, can you use that business to open a solo 401(k) and use that to do the after tax contributions only?

  • @annamartino5681
    @annamartino5681 6 дней назад

    The maximum 401(k) contribution for 2024 is $23,000 for employee salary deferrals. If you are 50 or older, you can contribute an additional $7,500, bringing your total contribution to $30,500. $15k 401k contribution was years ago probably about 15-20 years ago. In formulas for your 401k ballooning with 3-10% standard of Employer Match which you must have from any Employer with good benefits, and don't work for less or settle for less benefits package. It will backfire later when your SSA Benefits would be erased with Retires Inflation they deliberately keep COLA artificially low so they don't have to increase your pension or SSA Benefits with Real Inflation for Retired including Giant Unaffordable Healthcare Insurance (MEDICARE not even paying for expensive Dental Restoration or even Exams and X-rays because people who keep voting do not demand their elected ones would CHANGE MEDICARE Health Insurance for Retired not to be CRUEL as since 1960s or even earlier not covering Eye Health, Hearing or Dental, and 20% Copay on $250,000 ordinary Heart Surgery plus Heart Surgery Meds of $3000 - 4000 per month for the rest of your life or Google other similar simple Medical Bills you would pay in Retirement)... Do call your elected ones for your Parents and Grandparents and yourself in the future and demand changes to 1) SSA Benefits and Pensions Cost of Living Adjustment to not excluding Rising Prices in Food, Housing, Healthcare, Housing Insurance (often quite more if not double your Home Mortgage even if you just own an apartment or co-op or condo)... and 2) Increase Tax Brackets for Social Security Taxability thresholds to rise with Inflation calculated for Working People Salary Increases and for Tax Brackets Increasea, and not keep them at 1980s rate when they started to Tax SSA Benefits and then deliberately didn't adjust Brackets for more and more less than wealthy people to pay Higher Tax due to falling into the trap of SSA Benefits Taxable Brackets are still same as in 1980s. In 1980s you could live well on $50,000 and with income $70,000 you were a well to do, now with $70,000 you can't afford to dine daily at McDonald's and order a drink with every meal...
