My mission is to help people achieve financial independence and retire early. My channel contains educational content on your 401(k), Roth IRA, and TSP. If you want to retire early, you have to take control of your finances now!
My financial independence journey began in 2014 when I realized how broke I was. I lived way above my means and was in over my head with $110k in debt. I completed my debt-free journey in 2 years by the age of 30. I discovered the Financial Independence and Retire Early (F.I.R.E.) movement and saved 60-70% of my gross income.
I became a financial coach to help millions of Americans get out of debt, create a budget, and achieve financial freedom. I started my RUclips channel in 2021 to share my progress in F.I.R.E. I have a website to offer my financial coaching services, free spreadsheets, and personal finance calculators. I hope you find my experience helpful in starting your F.I.R.E. journey.

How to Start Investing Today in a Weird Economy
Let's say you're one of the upper 10% of earners and make $400k and pay $100k in taxes. You'll love it because you will be able to easily handle the inflation. Now, you're making $40k and pay next to nothing in taxes. You'll struggle to keep up with your day to day expense. Tariffs would be a windfall for the top 10% who pay 60% of the Ftaxes at present.
@@lesmoore3638 yep. Exactly
Thank you.
You were the one who misunderstood the question. The question was whether the HSA contributions should count towards her 15% budget allocation to investing. His answer was “no, make your HSA contribution and also hit the 15%.” That’s the conservative response. Advising that people invest their full HSA as a general rule seems irresponsible. Some consideration needs to be given on their likely timeframe for needing access to that money.
Welcome to the financial independence channel. It’s not for everyone especially with that mindset
@@Jericho9696 With what mindset? I didn’t display any “mindset.” This goofball misunderstood the question.
@ he answered the question that you should count HSA towards the savings rate. Why don’t you think HSA shouldn’t be counted as a retirement vehicle or the 15%? You should invest the full HSA and don’t touch it. No considerations need to be given for this scenario
@@Jericho9696 No, he literally didn’t even address this as a budget allocation question. I didn’t say it shouldn’t be counted as an investment vehicle. I keep the minimum cash balance in my personal HSA and invest the rest and I’m “planning” to keep my HSA for retirement. I have the income and other assets to afford my max out of pocket if something catastrophic happened. It’s a great “plan.” The empirical evidence suggests that it’s a plan most will fail to follow. Dave gives advice based on the evidence. As a CPA who has spent most of my career working with capital management companies, I disagree with much of Dave’s advice but I understand where it comes from. If you go to Dave Ramsey then you’re going to get the most conservative advice. The simple fact of the matter is that this guy put “Dave Ramsey” and capital “WRONG” into a title for clicks. He didn’t actually care about the content.
@ if you watched Dave’s entire video, the second half of it was about TikTok and whole life insurance. Since we are measuring our “credibility”, I’m also a CPA. Dave is wrong about the HSA, and I didn’t find this as a clickbait at all. We are all entitled to our opinions, including you spending an hour arguing with a complete stranger on the internet, which tells me you’re the type of person who loves proving everyone wrong. Did you get some satisfaction out of typing a long essay to strangers on RUclips?
It takes 90 days of review and investigation even to watch the camera at the time of purchase so it's not true anyone cannot just claim the ticket
I don't see the link for the course....
Just remember that any contributions that your employer makes will be in the traditional fund. So plan on any of that money that they contributed being taxed in the back end if you put your contribution into the Roth TSP.
The HSA is definitely a good investment vehicle, but he is not disagreeing with that, he is saying it would not count towards the 15% for retirement that he recommends in his plan. He makes a plan for the average American not the savvy investor. The average American would not keep money in their HSA till retirement, but rather when hard times come, pull it out earlier.
The gains on these ideas are largely taxed at income tax rates which, for many high next worth individuals, are taxed every year at 32-37%. This makes them inefficient as taxes consume too much of the interest. Therefore large sums of cash are better held in stable, highly liquid investments that are taxed at capital gains rates. One example might be the BOXX ETF, though I’m not giving financial advice or making a recommendation.
Im using my HSA to invest... I can't use my 401k till later but can use my hsa to pay med stuff now....soooooooo😅
If you’re using your HSA money then you’re not “investing.” Investing is long term. You’re really just spending with a small tax advantage and that’s Dave’s point.
@@v-2010found a Dave fan
@@Jericho9696 You’re jumping around comment to comment slinging what sound like attempts at insults. This creator doesn’t have enough subs to have cultish fanboys yet. I suspect you’re actually the same guy that created the video.
@ what are you doing? 🤣 jumping comments to comments
@@Jericho9696 Yes, and you’re seemingly seeking me out despite you not even being included in some of the other threads.
You’re also forgetting that you still have liquid viability of the money sustained in the HYSA as opposed to it being gone. Yes if you plan to sell to cut depreciation down then maybe pay it off but you still have the risk of finding a buyer. If you plan to keep the depreciating vehicle and have 50k or more in a HYSA and you have a high income then it’s more worth it to take the loan.
I have the cash to pay my model 3 2025 and I got a 1.99 Apr so I didn’t buy it cash because it doesn’t make sense. Cars are liabilities and I plan on having it for a decade. I earn 4.2-4.5 APR on the 42k and the Apr for the Tesla is 1.99 so even after my HYSA tax it’s still more money saved on the 5 year loan.
Don't use for contact lenses near term! think of it like a Roth account that shouldn't be used in near term. Invest as long term investment from the magnificent 7 for 10-30 year.
The more I learned about finances and investments the less faith I had in Dave Ramsey's advice.
I thought it was just me!!! He is for people with little discipline.
His commenters spoke loud on this one
Dave missed the mark on this one
💯. I had to hit the dislike button after watching Ramsey video about not counting HSA as part of 15% investment.
@ where’s the video
How? This guy did not answer the caller’s question. He answered a question he made up in his own head but he talked so much that you fell for it. And I’m not a Ramsay fan.
He should stick with being the “get out of debt guy” and leave investing alone
I prioritize HSA first and I count it towards my retirement
Most of Caleb's guests would love a 7% rate there is a lot of 20 to 30% people
