Lets Learn Larry - Sprite Swapping
This video shows how to replace existing character sprites with your own custom sprites. The files used in this video are available for members of the Cartoon Animator Facebook group.
To begin with, drag and drop your Larry Stickman SVG file directly into Stage Mode. He will automatically open up in Composer Mode for you. Composer Mode is the engine room of Cartoon Animator, where you can make permanent changes to actors and props.
First, we are going to learn how to replace existing sprites of our character with your own custom sprites. For this example, I have provided an alternate foot sprite for Larry wearing different footwear. Right-click on Larry's right foot to select it. In the le...

Do a real tutorial?
Hi Daniel. Well, this is the second tutorial I have made about buidling and rigging G3 characters for Cartoon Animator. The first one is available on the Reallusion RUclips channel and has both a one hour video webinar and a detailed written tutorial. This time around I thought I would take the CTA community through the process one stap at a time so we can slow down, break down the process in to smaller bit sized chunks of learning, and they can ask their questions as we move along. And everything Ive done, Ive done for free. Im not sure how much more real you want to get. I know youve struggled with developing characters now for many years, and I hope this helps you finally succeed. But lets be honest Daniel. Your comment isnt because you want a real tutorial, is it. You just wanted to appear critical. Thats okay. After all these years of dealing with you, Im used to it.

Can you make a tutorial on how to turn around like in the 4th second?
That effect was created using a G2 character for Cartoon Animator which has 8 different angles, allowing the body to turn around. I no longer use G2 characters, so i wont be able to make a tutorial, but you will find information in the older online manuals for the earlier versions of this software like CTA3.
Working with 3 of these toon folks at present. They really are excellent.
Thanks so much for the compliment. There are plenty more on the way!
my dear friend, your videos are incredible, congratulations. Do you have a video starting to create a character from scratch, basic to basics, could you provide the video link if possible, thank you very much.
I do indeed! Check out this video at ruclips.net/video/oeZquezfy4Q/видео.html&ab_channel=Reallusion and the free writeen tutorial which in the description. Good luck!

Funny video I noticed corporate media in Australia is disabling comment sections. I guess freedom of speech is disappearing in Australia.
Yet you managed to comment. Seems like our freedoms are just fine.
Your animations are great. I'm looking at getting cartoon animator 5. Do you think it's wise to also get the training pack for someone that has no experience. I know there are a lot of videos on using the software on RUclips.
First of all, thank you fo the nice compliment. I have to say that in my opinion, Cartoon Animator is a great choice in 2D animation software. It can do some pretty amazing things. My advice to anyone looking to get in to Cartoon Animator is to just buy the software itself and take some time to see how you go learning it. From there you can always add more and more add-ons like packs for content and training. There are a number of different ways you can learn Cartoon Animator, both paid and free. These include the official Reallusion RUclips tutorials and webinars. Make sure you join the Cartoon Animator Users Facebook group, where we have over 5,000 CTA users who are on hand all day every day to answer questions and help you learn. And if ever you want to really speed up your learning curve, I also offer Private Coaching, which are on-on-one video classes where I can teach you everything I know about CTA (which is extensive considering I have over a decade of experience with it). I wish you luck on your CTA journey and anything you need, just ask.

@GarryPye yes, I'm learning new things from you now, I want to take some courses...I already purchased an item from you, but need more...but I also want indepth character creation so I can understand how to fully develop them
@@RedArtMedia1 If you look on the official Reallusion RUclips channel under the Live playlist, you'll find a one hour webinar on how to create characters for Cartoon Animator which is accompanied by a full free written tutorial on the process as well.
Very interesting video. Thanks Garry. One question, does Leap motion Controller VERSION 2 work fine with Reallusion Cartoon Animator 5?. Or only the version 1 of Leap motion controller works fine with Cartoon animator 5. Thanks.
I do not have the Leap Controller Version 2 to be able to confirm or deny this with confidence my friend. Im sorry. You would do best by reaching out to Reallusuons tech support at kb.reallusion.com/General/50108/How-do-I-contact-the-Support-Team
Thanks, Gary. I just started using Cartoon Animator in July 2024. Very interesting software for turning my ideas into reality.

I really appreciate that message. I have a Facebook page called "Garry Pye Cartoon Animator". If you find it, come say hi and I will help in any way I can.
I was your first like❤
And therefore you are the best! WINNING! Thanks for watching!
Elephant in the room. The G2 version looked far superior. The G3 may be more functional but way less appealing so I can't see the point of using. In fact most G3 characters in the marketplace look terrible. For some reason the animal characters look great though. This is where we have been pushed by Reallution, more functional, easier to create but look terrible.
Well the good thing about opinions is, theyre not facts. If you prefer the G2 models, then they are still available for you to use. If G3 is your preference, then thats okay too. Given that you suggest that the characters are easy to create, I would be most appreciative if you could show me the characters youre producing so I can compare, because I went and visited your RUclips channel but there doesnt appear to be any content uploaded. At all.

Hey Garry! I’m trying to find that video tutorial you had on animation but using still images instead of full animation. I think you used Jack Danger in it. You were showing alternative way to animate using parallax techniques. Do you remember that video title? Thanks for your time and hope you’re doing well! 😊

Well, TheBaiterOf Mastering, Im glad you asked. Admittedly I thought the video was self-explanatory, but I realise we all learn at different speeds and levels, so I will explain. This is a video demonstrating how easy it is to change the look, clothing and accessories for actors when you use the 2D animation software Cartoon Animator for 2D animation. If you have any further questions, by all means, ask. Im always happy to help.

Hi MR Garry i bought Cartoon Animator 5 and also one of your character i need to ask you some question if you are free ok?
Best way to message is via my Facebook page at acebook.com/garrypyeanimations
blud added an outro to a SHORT.
I have no idea if youre saying thats a good thing or a bad thing.
@@GarryPyeit’s like limited to one minute long and you didn’t even use the full thing you tell me
@@MadawaUchiwa Well lets address both points- 1) "it’s like limited to one minute long". What is? Is this an animation rule that no one told me about? 2) "you didn’t even use the full thing you tell me" What "thing" did I tell you about that I didnt even use the full amount of?
@@GarryPye youtube shorts are limited to 1 minute long, not like as a general rule like if you upload something longer it gets cut off also you didnt use the full minute, if you want to promote ur channel try using watermarks instead of outros.
@@MadawaUchiwa Thanks for the advice.
I don’t get it
He was asked to give three reasons to describe himself. He only used one word. Lazy. Why didnt he use three words like he was asked? Because hes lazy.
Thank you for your video. Question: how do I import the final video to RUclips? Is there a size/length limit? Thanks!
From Cartoon Animator you have the option to Export your finished video as files like MP4, AVI etc. As for the limited size of your animation, what I do is to create each individual camera shot or angle of the animation as a separate project in Cartoon Animator and then edit them all together in post production using editing software (I use Pinnacle) and then upload your video to RUclips. Best of luck!
@@GarryPye thank you!!!
I think I topped out at maybe 10 mouth shapes @9:47 . lol
So long as you stick with filling the original 15 mouth sprites slots in your character which are used for auto lip synching, you dont need to add any more. I just add a lot because I know when Im animating, theres always another mouth shape I want or need.
I rarely use this feature. But when I need it (e.g. bees flew in one of my animation) it saves LOTS of time! So, it's a great innovation in CTA5!
Thats thing rght. It might not be a tool you use every day, but when you need it, it saves HOURS of keyframing.
Maybe only I know what tool it is
EVeryone can know what tool it is. This was made with Cartoon Animator. My favourite tool!
I know you are very well versed is this software. For a beginner with no knowledge of this program what would be the first steps and videos to watch? On a side note how long did this video take you to make. Was it from scratch or were some of the characters premade? Also I liked it a lot probably should have led with that.
Hey Jason. Thanks for your message. Glad you liked my video. Let me answer your questions- 1) "For a beginner with no knowledge of this program what would be the first steps and videos to watch?" The very first step is to join the Cartoon Animator Users Facebook Group (be sure to answer the 3 questions when entering). We currently have over 5,000 CTA users, illustrators, animators and developers on hand who will answer any and all questions for you. It is the best resource for Cartoon Animator that you have. There are also plenty of free webinars, tutorials and courses you can access online from Reallusions website and RUclips channel. Then, if you want to really speed up your learning curve for CTA, I also offer a Private Coaching session where I can teach you exactly what you want to learn at the pace you want to learn. 2) "how long did this video take you to make." I completed this animation in 2 weeks. Not really full time, but working a lot of hours to get it done. But the characters were already designed and rigged which saved me a lot of time. 3) "Was it from scratch or were some of the characters premade?" Both of the characters and the UFO were premade. I made everything in this animation myself. And it is all for sale if you are interested in using it yourself. If you have any questions, come visit my Facebook page (Garry Pye Cartoon Animator) and come say hi!
Cool
Thanks for watching!
nice one! is it also possible to replace the logo?
Thanks for watching. If you are comfortable with Cartoon Animators Composer Mode, then yes, you can replace the logo on the shirt to be anything.
@@GarryPye i know it from Character Creator, but i am new to CA5. Thank you!!!
Great tutorial. I love this software. With something like the axe in the ground, wouldn't it be a lot easier just to create a small (identical) overlay chunk of the background that hides the axe edge, then there's no need to alter the object to appear sunk into the ground, it would just be behind the small overlay (which can go away as soon as the axe is out of the ground if anything else in the scene might go behind it accidentally)?
Absolutely! One of the great things about Cartoon Animator is that there are any number of ways to achieve any result you want. Your way works just as well as mine. Nice one!
I love what you do with Cartoon Animator, I MUST LEARN!!! I’m a content creator myself.
