Hi Jamie, when you use a palette knife to create texture or wide or thin lines on watercolor paper you will not actually lift pigment up off the paper as in oil painting. Instead you are simply moving the paint aside leaving a light or a dark mark. If the paint is still very wet then the pigment will run back into your mark making it very dark. If you want the pigment to stay pushed aside for a light area then the mark must be made once the surface looses its sheen and takes on a mat-like appearance. There is definitely a learning curve which takes lots of practice in order to become comfortable with the tool and the possibilities it offers the artist. I did it! thank you Joyce! But I've just figured out I can only do that with artist quality paints (because of their high pigmentation). This technique is hardly applied to student quality :D

Ow, I'm just a beginner like I don't even know that's exist. Most of of the time I struggle with stretching paper and ended up with wavy surfaces when they dried. Thanks for the insight
