You are so very aware of what happens as you age ....but you are spoiling all that by Staying on stage now with a failing voice that doesn't work and a body that needs...a lot of work....to say the least
I wish that you were as humble about your flute improvisations as you are in other areas of your life.
Many doubters in the comments... What I will say is that, for me, a key advantage of the device is the difference it creates in the response. That's something that a listener can't necessarily perceive, but which is of great importance to the player. Everyone I know who's tried one has been able to notice a difference; whether that's something they think is worth the price is an individual preference. There's no way in hell I would ever pay for one of the solid-gold or platinum ones, but I'm very happy with the silver-plated one I bought (I actually liked it better than the gold-plated model).
i am not convinced! rather, it raises the question of how much money you get for doing what you are doing
So what is the best pad for a 1959 Haynes Commercial?
Ian was Tull, let’s face it. No doubt, anyone who played with him had to more than special. A lot more. Martin made Tull amazing along within Ian as well. We know this.
My personal experience is that there IS something to this gadget ... and other flute makers are introducing their own similar inventions. My flute maker, Chris Abell, is making "rings" that fit between the HJ and body-- giving the flute a (at the very least) a smooth appearance when the HJ is pulled out. That said, the Abell flute is so great, it doesn't need a ring sound-bridge at all. But, I believe the Freque DOES make an audible difference in the sound of my silver flute (Powell/Mancke). For me, it darkens the sound of the metal flute and gives me "woody" shades to play with (which I love). The only data set I have to determine its efficacy are dozens of my personal trial recordings, with and without, different materials, and placed all over the flute. I don't love the look of the LeFreque on my flute, but its a relatively inexpensive way to freshen up your sound.... and easy to resell if you don't like it.
If it needs that sort of analysis for comparison then it’s a waste of 💰. If you can’t feel it or hear it in your bones then buy yourself a better mouthpiece. This gimmick is like the arthritis bracelet. If you believe it works then you fool yourself in making it work.
I have heard of Robert Dick before, but today is the first time I have heard his music or seen his flute...and glissando headjoint, and I am just blown away by his innovations and inventiveness!!! I can't stop watching his videos!!!
You didn’t use vibrato on the first but added it to the ones with the gadget. I don’t think this items delivers what it’s stating it does???
Le FreQue “Because you’ll believe anything!”
Ian Anderson. Einer der ALLERGRÖSSTEN. SUPER. SUPER. Und DANKE FÜR ALLES.
Well I’ve been using it incorrectly for awhile duhhh Thank you for showing us how to use it correctly
good afternoon, I'm new to your channel ... which site would you recommend me to buy LeFreQue?
Qual preço ?,por favor!
Qual preço?
Waste of money. All these things you think can magically be fixed by this device can be fixed with practice.
not a classical fluteplayer : thanks god.Thats why Ian has been such an original and great fluteplayer with a rytmic cavelity.eisides that his tone is very warm and beatifull.
Ottimo flautista!! Magari un po' di inglese di più non guasterebbe ;-)
I LOVE my Lefreques! I play on a Gemeinhardt solid silver, and use the 41mm red brass, for the head/body, and sometimes the 33 on the foot joint. They round out the sound very nicely!
Thank you for this. I have had a Lefreque for almost a year and I still struggle with putting it on
Ians honest admissions self depricating only reinforce for me his greatness.
First 4 Album's ..Jethro Tull..This Was..Stand Up..Benefit..Living in the Past/Aqualung..After that still good..not great. or remarkable..During 68-72..right up there with Zepplin..Doors..Floyd..then Popeye voice ..and redundent progressions of folklore and adventure tunes..Glenn Cornick and Clive Bunker chemistry long gone..
Wrong, Dave Aloneagain.
awesome video,thanks for posting this
Yoooo you just interviewed one of my favorite flute players 🙉
Fabulous, congratulations, David!
Beautiful! Congratulations!!
Hmm, hope there is another one next year
Congratulations David! Fantastic piece!!
This is what musical snake oil looks like. In fact, the lefreque does noting at all, and no objective evidence that it does anything is offered here. The sciency-sounding words are just pseudoscience.
Right on and $250 pure rip off!
Thank you, Flute View Team! Great video about Burkart Academy :) Sounds like a great opportunity and a fun time! Loving Burkart Flutes and Piccolos!
1:54 There IS a lefreque at the footjoint!
A fantastic songwriter as well as wonderful with the flute. I love all the Jethro Tull albums. Thanks for the interview!
Anderson has always had that self deprecating attitude as if his success came as a pure accident through no fault of his own and completely undeserved,if you watch his performances from 40 years ago until today they all have that silly court jester persona.
Nice interviewer.
Great invention. I recently got a silver gold plated one and I love it. It’s almost like I have a new instrument (flute)
Well the octaves on my flute are not too sharp. I think you forced the differences yourself. At least your lips looked like it. Also I cannot hear any difference in sound nor projection.
Thank you. Very easy to follow.
Wow, that is the first time I've seen an open hole alto before.
He's good if I was a pro id learn to read id have the time and income so why not do it
What a great interview, really fun, and some of my favorite people 😎
Makes a metal flute 'woody' again
I love Ian!!!!
I really enjoyed this interview. I liked his summary of various musical trends through the decades and also his advice to play for personal enjoyment. I found it to be encouraging to me as a flutist. I saw the girl eager to play for Ian too. I felt bad for her. I’m not sure if Ian noticed her attempt to play or not. Ian’s music has spoiled me. Ive been a Tull fan since 1972. Nothing compares to the intricate and thoughtful compositions throughout the body of work. I have a hard time listening to simple music. Who cares if he’s not perfect. Who is? But he’s a musical genius who happened to be a pretty smart business man too.
Hm. He's a little bit full of shit about the banality of rock music, in the broad sense he's using the term. Yeah, most everything on the radio is about falling in or out of love but top-40 ... that's a pretty narrowly constrained genre. As advice to musicians - "if you play rock music you must accept that it's pretty boring and emotionally self-involved" - it's not really true at all.
He is capable forming complete multi-part sentences with commas and full stops, not making a single grammatical mistake. I bet most here lose him after the 5. word, and then because they don't understand what he is saying think it's him who is stupid. My two sentences probably contain more grammatical mistakes then he did in the last 25 years.
Intelligent people, even those who can write and punctuate well, are still capable of talking a load of shit at times. One only has to listen to politicians!
@@krollpeter I could not agree more. My feelings and thoughts exactly.
FANTASTIC VIDEO, THANK YOU!
Hi, very interesting. The pitch correction was minimal at best but what I noticed was how the LefreQue dulls the sound. To my ear a lot of overtones where lost when you added it.
Amazing! I strapped one to my throat and I can now sing in tune
😅😅😅 we should pass these out to half the singers at next years Grammy awards.
Cool. Anne Coulter's finally branching out of politics.
she is much nicer than anne coulter
Ian learned circular breathing so that he could talk uninterrupted ... then realised it might be useful for flute playing.
