Here is another GURPs 3e video. I'm seeing a trend here, but this game is so fascinating and addicting at the same time. I hope these videos work as a learning experience for myself and others. Otherwise, thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy!

Solo RPG Campaign: The Lone Wolf - 10
I love GURPS and modify it with my own rules lite. I’m fine tuning it as I go. There are aspects of Cairn I may implement with it. Time will tell. So anything GURPs is only a strength moving forward. Hope to see more from you with it. You won’t be disappointed.
Nicely done!
Hello Lex. Great video. Thank you. I'm a great Mythic and Tana fan.❤ Can you please tell me your setup? Tripod (which one?) and cell phone? That way, you'll help a fellow solo TTRPG player to show his solo journey to other fellow soloists, just like you're doing. Thanks so much, V
Thank you for the question and watching. Currently, I use a Rode mic stand that has a tripod thread on top. With a simple logitech WebCam attached. And of course I use OBS to record.
I like macro play, while at the same time holding onto other aspects of solo gaming that I’ve come to enjoy. Like bullet journaling and map making while I play. I think we all are trying to find that individual sweet spot that works for each of us personally. I’m close but appreciate ideas I can learn from others to try. Some work that I will implement, others don’t. That’s the wonder of it all. Make it fit you.
Exactly. I fully agree. I'm always trying to tinker with my method to play.
Glad to see your method of combat. I think I've used morale checks on occasion, but I don't exactly recall. All of these sort of blend after a while 😅 I may implement a list of the characters with profile pics on the side panel, which I've done for the prior series.
Another great episode!
This is excellent and I'm always happy to support fellow solo players!! Plus seeing cairn getting love makes me so happy. Happy weekend and safe travels, adventurer!
It _does_ look just like Labrinth of the Necrons… which is weird. We got SpaceMarine the Board Game with Titus and a crap-ton of Tyranid Hormagants - for the same price. We’re talking over 20 plastic models (including the ripperswarms etc.). Titus alone is worth the $40 as you can only get him in this set (as well as the new set that GW sells in store - which has less Tyranids). I bought the actual Necrons to use for Labrinth of the Necrons (nice sales tactic, GW). But having both Leviathan (release set) and SM:the board game - I have way too many Tyranids than I can shake a stick at.
That was fun. I use various encounter dice also. Nice to see you using them. Strict skill checks - Yes! Simple. I just finished an engagement with six bandits in my game. My encounters are typically a d8 dice. Do you ever implement a flee/fight provision? In my gaming I call it a “ Denouement” where once we took out half the bandits, I provide an opportunity for the remaining to either continue to fight or flee. Thus in my scenario the last three took off to spare their lives but our party will cross paths with them in the future. A revenge episode. Also it was cool because upon discovery they had in their possession two captives. Unbeknownst to us, one is a Barons son which will either provide reward or wrath in the future. Lots of potential plot twists. I’m really enjoying your macro play. This is how solo gaming should be, in my humble opinion. Lastly, could you list the names of your characters and their spelling. It would help in following along. Thanks!
Excellent! I’m slowly learning Cairn and I really like it! I tend to like macro play, simple, fun and let the dice determine the storyline where ever it leads. So I appreciate your honest perspective on this. I also like the format of combat you did. It moves quickly back and forth and advances the storyline and play. I think I would use “enrage” as a bonus to attack and damage. Used only in specific situations. Which could also provide a bonus to others in the party as a clarion call of inspiration. I also use a lot of medicinal herbs tonics, elixirs and prayers for healing of wounds as my party is predominantly rangers. But this was fun, once again! Looking forward to the next one!
Great advice. I appreciate it. My d100 approach/macro play is good experimental merger and driver for the adventure. It does move things along. The combat method, out of the dozens I've tried, seems to fit well with Cairn. Keeps things moving, with a blend of an attack roll and direct damage. Ironically, I was thinking of using that "enraging" moment as a booster for the PCs and may try to next time.
That’s what I’ve come to like about solo play. You can tweak it to one’s own preferences. Keep up the good work! You’re doing awesome!
Wow, this looks just like the Space Marine Adventures: Labyrinth of the Necrons game!!!!
it is the same game with slight differences, like the art and some character stats.
@@Badbufon Thanks. It is disappointing to me that this game has less art than the Necrons game. It looks like they GW went the cheap route.
@@davidk6269 it seems like a step down compared to the Necrons one, yes, BUT, i like the minimalistic look and it fits in line with the rest of their games. so it doesn't bother me
@@Badbufon I could see that. I actually wish that the first game was a Tyranid theme instead of Necron theme. I'm a huge Space Hulk fan, so I'm biased towards tyranids. ; )
Yg seems to be pronounced as ig, like ygdrassil if I'm remembering my Thor correctly 😊
Great story line. Being new to solo play, I am learning so much from your channel. It is extremely helpful. In regards to the Cairn character sheet you are using, did you develop that yourself? I like the layout of it, especially with implementing multiple characters.
Thanks for your continued support. For this specific sheet, I found it online Cairn's official website, under their 3rd party page. Its in the 'Online Character Keeper' link under misc. cairnrpg.com/resources/third-party-resources/
There's some tremendous solo resources out there! Books bricks and boards makes a lot of them available on his discord (totally free and a great community) and people are happy to share their tips and resources as well!
Like the combination of the rules sets. I think you are on to something with this. Looking forward to see how this plays out.
I like how you make use of the modifier dice in play and how you keep pushing forward with each scenario as it allows for fun suspension, tension and adversity. Really good!
Thanks again! I'm glad you like this campaign.
Advanced voice is also available in Canada. Just chatted with it a bit
Yup. Got it in my area too. Once they connect it with custom GPTs, I will try to use it as a DM, player, or an Oracle.
This was fun. Excellent!
This was definitely a fun one. Thanks!
This is my favorite so far. Interested in your use of Cairn and how you flesh it out along with its pros and cons. I’ve been contemplating running some sessions with it. Still trying to narrow down which rule set to use that allows ebb and flow with enough depth while advancing the narrative as I enjoy journaling when I play, if that makes sense?
I just haven't had time to watch this whole video. But I wanted to say I used to GM GURPS with friends years ago. It's a fantastic system. When you said you were worried about not doing it right, I thought that's the beauty of GURPS there's no wrong way to run it. Then a few minutes later as I'm watching you write your notes for advantages across into the side for disadvantages I was screaming at the monitor.
Didn't know that side was for Disadvantages... make sense though. Recently i've been using the other character sheet design, with the 1 column for all of it. But overall, I do enjoy the system and still plan on learning all about it.
@@LexTheGrey Yeah I hope that didn't come off as serious. I as a GM was pretty OCD about how character sheets were filled out. Glad you're enjoying the system, it worked for dozens of campaigns for us all different genres. I think I had over twenty source books, but you really only need the Basic Set.
Well done! Really enjoying how you take the time to work through the details of this. Very informative and helpful. Great play through!
Thank you, as always. I feel though I still have a lot to learn. Overall, it's a great engine.
Hi - been enjoying listening to these. Just FYI - I don't care about little misteps or inconsistencies - that's part of the game playing. I don't expect you to do things perfectly, remember all names, etc. You really don't need to apologize so much or worry about how good it was. If you're doing something you like and are happy to share it, that makes it fun to listen to. Thanks for making content!
Thanks for the feedback. I have a tendency to apologize a bit. But yes, I do highly enjoy making these videos. :)
*Correction: The Chaos dice are 2d10, not 2d20.
Sorry to bring this modifer for 16 is just +2😢 pleas keep making videos on SH.
On Advantage and disadvantage are not inverted? If we need to get the d10+Princ > 2d20 , advantage should change the d20 to a lowest not highest right? Because we get the advantage by getting lower nrs on the 2d20 so we can easily beat them. I maybe wrong as my main lang is not English. Looks interesting. Btw I love trifold pages, will you going to add anything in the other side? Maybe some oracles? Action + Theme + Adjective or character sheet + trifold cover? 😊
Well… nvm, actually is the d10 that is rolled twice and gets the highest one… this is what happens when I coment in mid of video instead at the end… I have fear that I pull forgot what was thinking.
Its all good. I'm just glad I caught it myself near the end. X)
This is great! So helpful!
Thanks. I am hoping to add a few more hacks to Cairn before the next video. I am sure I missed some other possibilities.
this looks really interesting
Thanks. Maze Rats is a great foundation. I like to use these extensions for longer sessions.
I have found chatGPT to be horrible when you try to use it as a GM. Lots of duplication, ignoring previous prompts and odd insertions. I find it helpful for reasearch. I have been able to get it to do a fair job of NPC's creation with the correct prompt. So I only rarely use it.
Good point. This is why I like using it as an Oracle on occasion. Custom GPTs are much better at staying on point, especially as a GM.
Same. I use it more as expanding on specific topics and brainstorming and discussing Oracle results. It does not work well for a gm role.
the thumbnail made me think i was in for something i was not....... showing the things that you advertise is pretty important, and most of the purpose of the thumbnail... teaching people they shouldnt trust your intro image is probably not an ideal choice
Okay. Fixed. Just a thumbnail from the video. My apologizes.
I like your copy of the book with it's smaller size. Where did you get that from? Mine from DTRPG was normal A4 size
I think it is the same A4 size you are referring too. Same site too.
@@LexTheGrey Must have been my perspective. Thanks for the video
I'm one of those that believes a.i. has no place in the creative arts which includes roleplaying
That is completely understandable. Personally I enjoy using it on occasion. Not to entirely replace my solo plays, but simply as a tool. Though lately, I haven't used AI as an oracle that much compared to my earlier videos.
@@LexTheGrey I did enjoy your little series very much, btw, I am subbed. Not so into the gurps material, but I;m just 1 guy :)
Nice playthrough, thanks for showing this. I've been interested in some skirmish games and this one is definitely on my list to try out. Would have been cool to see the miniatures in there instead if dice but thas just me being silly. Keep it up man!
Glad you enjoyed!
Analog for the win! For me the tactile component is what gives me that feel of actually playing a game. The clicking of the dice in the dice cup, the handling of the pawns, drawing of maps. This is what makes it playing a game for me. And good luck with your channel.👍
Me encanta como juegas...
I've used this to do some solo play. I've wanted to try using it in an actually D&D group though and just see how weird and whacky stuff gets and just let the Mythic GME guide the whole session
I played in a homebrew sandbox game that our GM used the original Mythic. It wasn’t gonzo but it made for interesting things. He talked a bit about it on his RUclips channel. Heroes & Homebrew is his channel.
Only recently discovered your channel and really appreciate your approach to solo RPG, straight forward but also fun. Like you I’m an introvert but also love solo RPG. I however have let a lack of self confidence stop me moving forward. I have been putting off my solo RPG plans on hold, other than collecting a bunch of different resources. After watching you, I’m more inclined towards trying to get on and do something. I’m also interested in your maze rats hack and it sounds really useful.
This sounds like a good experiment. I'd rather watch someone talk instead of their hands & arms moving everywhere so I'm on board. Just describe the world you are seeing in your head, not everything, just what's important (what you make important) to the adventure.
That is pretty much the idea at hand. Hopefully it works out in my next episode.
@@LexTheGrey Give it a go. I recently came across your channel, the Lone Wolf videos, so I'm slowly making my way through those & watching the workshops in between.
@@Mind_of_MATT Thanks! That means a lot to me. The Lone Wolf will definitely continue.
Your so right about over hyping . I get so excited about sitting down to play and then i get sat down and my enthusiasm just goes and it is so annoying.
A lot of my self inflicted hype is from trying different systems, not just the adventure. 😅
In the last 3 weeks ive gone from EZD6 to Tiny Dungeon and Shadowdark, i know how you feel@LexTheGrey
I have to say this is how i do solo play. I find doing the dialog myself tricky. I do take the characters disposition into account while doing this though. Any news on your Maze Rats Hack ?
My Maze Hack is still chilling on my drive. I still need to tweak it before releasing it on here. I may just do a separate video for it and just share it in the description.
If +3 is you maximum stats and you have 3 stats , that at most 9 level ups bringing you to lvl 10 cap. But if you start with a few stats you won’t have any room to grow. Might want to look at -1 being possible on lvl 1 character
That is a good idea, but my RPG Lite has gone through some revisions since this initial update. I've been focusing more on my Maze Rats hack.
You want a map because it’s a visual aid for inspiration but also a tool to show others how much you played if you show someone about your hobby
I do occasionally use hex maps, but often steer away from them later on. It seems tough for me to stick to one process. I'd say I prefer theater of the mind style play, specifically for my recent episodes of Lone Wolf.
I think ICRPG story architecture (9 step stories) is great to read over. Then using ironsworn vows as pacing tools is great
I've heard great things about ICRPG, I will try to get it later on. I do have Ironsworn: Starforged, but the systems have a steep learning curve. Still working on it.
What's the hexmap page setup? Is that custom? Its pretty cool. I like that. Been looking for something like that.
Found it on itch. I think this is it -> gm-lazarus.itch.io/hexcrawl-sheets
The One Page Mythic is a page taken out of the Mythic Magazine made by the same creator. Some People are really fast reading the numbers other either of the fate charts, but for some reason I have to strain my eyes to not get lost. I don't use Mythic as much because it takes out the speed of my game. I go for more simpeler oracles like the standard d6 oracles where I can remember what's (extreme) yes or no. You only have to roll D100 and read charts for the prompts. The d20 oracle from SoloDark is also a very nice simple oracle. The roll to do yes no questions can be done without looking up numbers in tables, and when needed you roll d100s for prompts.
Well said. That is why I like the one-page Mythic OR my simple d100 Oracle.
Mythic seems to be the "premier" oracle out there, but it has been somewhat difficult for me to get into. One-page Mythic may be a good option, just to get started and then build upon that. I enjoy roleplaying a lot and adding depth to my NPCs is something I'd like to explore. Oh and those GM Apprentice cards are pretty cool. I've got the fantasy and the cyberpunk versions. Also, Mythic has an interesting deck as well.
I didn't know there was a cyberpunk version. Wonder if there is a scifi version, or a similar scifi book.
@@sharpmountaingames9303 Yes, there is a sci-fi version!
I like this impromptu style.
Are you still using the Table Fables book? I'm new to the channel.
Occasionally I will. I believe I did a few weeks ago, but not too recently. Its a great book though for solo.
I need to get on Etsy and grab me one of those 1,000 side dice for proper critical rolls.
I would say all shows have "to be continued" episodes. But if you really want to do one shot videos you could.
One day I'll be able to say I subscribed when you only had 258 subs. Keep up the good work, make small improvements to your audio setup as you go along, and I look forward to your million sub special.
I've just recently discovered your channel and I have enjoyed your videos. So for me, I'll be here no matter how you play your games. Thanks for the content.
Thanks!
