Did anyone get honked at when you were there?
Hi - At FG point? I don't recall - am surprised we didn't because we did jump the queue for sitting in the road for the photo! The whole trip (30 days Chicago to LA) I thought the roads were mega quiet (aside from Vegas, SF and LA) and the people were absolutely amazing. It was a real eye opener for us. We did notice we were jumping the queue for the photo and that's why we headed down to the next lay-by. As for Monument Valley - without a doubt the most amazing place I have ever been - the cabin we had was a premier rim front cabin - perfect view for the evening sat on the verandah, drinking bourbon, just watching the still silhouetted view. And of course, we had the perfect sunrise. With no wifi, it was perfection - and I was not expecting that.
Well that was pretty cool. My sister had a house out where some wild horses roam, and even though they would come and drink from the water trough she kept filled for them, they wouldn't let people get too close. Very cool to see this. 🐴
Hi Joe. With our daughter being very much into horses she was over the moon when we saw these at the side of the road. I am unsure whether they were "wild"... but they were very friendly.

"I am unsure whether they were "wild" They look pretty well-fed compared to the wild bunch that was out by my sisters place (Placitas NM). They might have just been out for a walk around the neighborhood. It's not uncommon to see livestock out on rural roads designated "open range". I have a lot of "cow in the road" pictures 🐮.
Nice scenery! Quite a contrast, going from the high mountains one day out to mesa and butte country the next.
It was an amazing day Joe - so pleased we did it and so pleased you like the videos.

The road follows the river for quite a long way, doesn't it? Very scenic! And Yay! for Lynn getting out there on that bridge. That's a long long ways up!
She is/was absolutely petrified of heights - even flying there was traumatic - she did not do very well up the Willis Tower nor the Arch in St Louis. But this bridge she did spectacularly well - less so later in the day on Skyline Drive!! That road by the Arkansas River was amazing, proper Colorado river that we see on the TV!

Next time I am in Denver I am going to see about heading over to US 50 (I have family in/around there). Usually I take I- 25 all the way ABQ>>Denver, then return Denver>Walsenburg>Taos>ABQ.
Starting the day off right at Michael's Kitchen👍. Really good place! Looks like much better weather than the day before - that's good. I wanted to mention that there are many, many places around this part of the Rio Grande and the surrounding mountains where you can camp, hike, fish, etc. More than I could possibly list. A great area for outdoor activities. The bird that flew over you at Tres Piedras looked like a vulture, maybe, or possibly a golden eagle? Looked like a pretty good-sized bird.
Thanks JoeT. I am pleased you are enjoying these videos - I know not the quality of some of the road trippers who post similar on here but I am very new to this - and learning all the time. Colorado has always been a bucket list item to visit - hence the "detour" on this trip - and it did not disappoint which hopefully I can convey over the next few videos. Emotionally breathtaking is all I can say! Rio Grande Gorge Bridge was immense - the views were amazing - but sad to see the memorials to the suicides there - but quite warming to see people there celebrating the lives of the loved ones they lost. To the unknown, RIP! Thanks for the bird info - I would have suggested Vulture - we saw one later on at the Navajo Bridge just after Page, Az, just perched, ominously on the bridge structure, looking for his tea!! Matt, I am enjoying the videos, and your blog as well. You've done great with all the planning and documenting the whole thing. I can't imagine how much video and photos you have to sort through. But, seriously, you've put this all together very well and I look forward to seeing all the rest. Good of you to pay your respects to those lost at the Taos bridge. Oh, one suggestion for you, Matt. You could make a pinned comment with the link to your blog that will show up just below your video - easier for people to find and read your commentary. I know the link is the Description, but I don't think many people will see it there. I found myself switching back and forth between your blog and RUclips to figure out where you were in the earlier videos. Just a suggestion.

@@JoeT-1830 Hi Joe - Thanks - it was about two years in the planning - but some of that is that phase where you don't really believe you will be able to do it! Those who died at the bridge - was really humbling and emotional and caught me totally by surprise. When we visited the Oklahoma Memorial, that was emotional too, but we expected that to be so. Also, the 9/11 memorial at Winslow - small, we were the only people there, but immediately taken back to that horrific day.

"Now on some proper old Route 66". It's fun to get away from the main roads and off into the boonies, isn't it ? I've always liked this part of New Mexico. As you said, Matt, the landscape here is open and expansive - some really wonderful vistas. Glad that you liked it.
