Speed Test: Tohatsu 15 hp on Two 1436 Jon Boats
Просмотров 25 тыс.4 года назад
I speed test a brand new 2020 model year 15 horsepower Tohatsu 4-stroke outboard motor on an old, beat up jon boat and then on a brand new 2020 model year Tracker Topper 1436. #tohatsu #tracker #jonboat #speedtest #boating #trackertopper #1436 #outboard
The mistake with the 1436 so many people make that you didnt make is decking the entire boat forcing everyone to stand a foot above the stock deck, thats very tippy in chop, You did the right thing keeping a stock area up front in case it gets a little choppy. I added a bike seat up front so its pretty stable as long as someone else doesnt get frisky in the back lol!😂
I heard about WoodPrix instructions good opinions.
I made a similar one with WoodPrix instructions!
I feel like my 1436 is fairly stable. I've been on other boats, V hulls, roughly the size of mine and having owned it for over 35 years I'm still glad it's the one I went with!
Perfectly calm water stability test? Thanks for the review but better to do stability when other boys are ripping by causing waves.
Go rivet's or go cracked. Now I'll view vid.
Nice setup 👍
Any chance you could make a video showing how the decks remove? I am thinking of replicating but would love to see how they remove.
They literally just lift out once you remove the bungees from the ribs. There's nothing else holding them down. On the middle deck, there is also a wiring harness to disconnect, but otherwise, it's that simple.
What creek was this?
Rock Creek in Little Rock, AR, along Rock Creek Trail, which I believe is currently closed due to tornado damage.
Giddy up
Is a 14 by 31 stable?
I don't know; I've only had a 1436. If you're on Facebook, maybe join the "Decked Out Jon Boats" group and ask them.
@@renaissanceguy148 thanks for replying I will check them out. Later.
Is it still very hard for two kids with not adults on it too get around?
I don't quite understand the question. Are you asking if kids have room to move around on the boat or if kids get drive it?
@@renaissanceguy148 Can kids get around it easy
@@CBJ2683 my kids do okay on it because they're lighter, so they don't make it tip as much. But if me and another adult are walking around on it, it gets a bit tippy.
@@renaissanceguy148 Thank you
@@renaissanceguy148 Me and my little brother bought one and we needed to know how stable it is
Good power, good battery life. Quiet and easily moves 14ft aluminum boat.
I have a jon boat and the problem is exactly what you said. If I'm alone it's fine to stand up, but if I have another person it's sketchy. If the other person moves unexpectedly and the boat starts wobbling, good chance you might fall. In fact I have before haha.
The struggle is real!
Tar at top and mem Brian
I have a 1432 tracker. I stand and fish up front often with no problem. One thing I did was get a 42" hand controlled trolling motor so when I am standing on the bow and fishing I don't have to bend over. The trolling motor is right there. I even prefer this set up to a foot controlled trolling motor.
I bet that works great!
I noticed your trim was down on the first boat.
That's correct, because if I raised the trim, it would cavitate.
Must be just feeling the ride of a flat bottom. I find mine ride better flat, over the v bottoms. Play with the trim and ride hight.
How did you build it? I just purchased my first boat it’s a Fish Master 1232, it was decked out already, it has a custom cut board that sits on the front deck and front seat made to be a walking deck with a extended stool in the middle but I’m uncomfortable sitting there🫣 controlling the trolling motor.. I kind want to use what’s there already just cut it shorter and buy another clamp on seat for the front row seat so I’m confident, I just need enough front deck for the bow mounted trolling motor to sit on..
It's a 1/2" plywood top that's framed with 2x2 and it's sealed with spar urethane. I keep thinking of making a video focused on how I built the decks, I just never find the time. Maybe I'll get to it soon!
Is the Tohatsu fuel injected? I know the new ones are.
Yes it is.
How did you fix the leaks?
At first I rebucked the leaky rivets, but that didn't hold for very long. So I've started drilling them out and replacing them.
When you say big water what size lakes are you referring too as in acres
It's not so much about the total size of the body of water as much as it's about the total distance from one shore to the other. For example, I've had my boat on a lake that has an area of 68 square miles; if I'm driving across the main part of the lake, it's sketchy because the waves are taller than the side of my boat. But if I'm in a wind-protected cove, then all is well.
More weight will make it more stable?
The problem with adding weight is that it's already a shallow boat, so adding weight puts the rails even closer to the water...
thank you trying to find where this creek is located
It's off of Rock Creek Trail in Little Rock. The trail runs from behind a strip mall at Markham and Bowman to the intersection of Chenal and Pride Valley.
@@renaissanceguy148 thank you my friend
I've got half of foot and a 1436 mines perfect your deck is way to small dude
The front deck has been suitable for how I use the boat. If I wanted to make it 100% a fishing boat, then I agree with you: I would need to lengthen my front deck for a trolling motor and seat. But as it is, it's plenty big for me to stand on it and cast and store life jackets underneath.
Great project. I was wondering, did you just hit a nail at 3:37 ?
I believe it was the staple that was holding the tag onto the end of the board. I failed to remove it before cutting. Good eye!
@@renaissanceguy148 Thanks for sharing. I'm doing my own awning, this is very helpful.
شكرن على الفديو
Thanks for commenting, though I'm afraid I can't read it.
Curious why you choose plywood and shingles over lighter corrugated roof?
To match the look that the shed already had.
Hello. Great awning! Wondering what the angle cuts are for the support end pieces. Saw the top piece cuts are 16 degrees. What about the side support and how low from the top did you screw them in?
Hmmm...I don't remember the angles I used for the side supports. I might be able to find the answer with a bevel gauge. And I don't understand the second question...are you asking about where they're attached to the wall or to the roof?
~16° is an awful angle to mount the solar to, isn't it?
It's not an ideal angle for panels that are mounted directly to the roof. But I have three panels on an angled stand as well as one panel mounted directly. So the three are close to an ideal angle, while the one is a little shallow. But also, the awning is about 8' at it's highest point, and if I angled it to much, I'd have to duck to get under the front of it.
Hi there. How big is this awning? Lengthwise and widthwise? Are these all 2×4's? Nice work. I'm looking to do something similar
8'x4'. And yes, it's framed with 2x4s. Thanks!
Thanks for the pros and cons list. Wish I could see you give this feedback while on the boat though!
I've got an on-the-water video about stability, and another speed testing the boat, if that helps.
really useful, thanks
Glad to hear it!
Very nice boat…Very creative modifications. Inspiring 😃
Thanks!
building 1 just like yours! perfect simple build
Awesome!
Do you fish big waters? Just got a 1542 and hoping it’s ok to fish waters where big boats will be coming by (worried of the wakes)
I mostly stick to coves when I'm on bigger water.
I'll add--your 1542 will probably do a bit better than my 1436.
Try to keep your boat facing wake you’ll be fine
My only comment was I built something similar on my front door and it turned out really nice but what I used was corrugated metal it was so much simpler I put tarpaper down then I put the metal and it kind of gave a contrast and it worked out really well over my front door good job that’s not easy to do by yourself
Good call!
Nice job
Thanks!
Damn nicest jon boat I ever seen
Thanks--I like it!
It seems like 15 hp outboard can still go nice speed with a little additional weight but 9.9 hp really suffers with too much weight. I have a 14 ft v hull aluminum and a Mercury 15 hp goes 25 mph and trolls less than 2 mph. A 9.9 hp trolls nice but top speed alone is an ok 18 mph.
Good information. I looking for jon boats this might be the idea sizes.
Man where did you find a 14’ boat for 1000$ brand new? Academy wants 2k for boat only
It was just before the pandemic. Prices skyrocketed like two months after I bought it.
Oops, I didn't actually answer the question. Bass Pro Shop, when they were still making Tracker Toppers.
*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
I'm preparing to build out a 1436 for watershed protection work in NE Oklahoma and love the removable decks. How did you secure the bungees, though?
Awesome! I used the loop-and-ball style bungees and ran them through holes in the deck and under the ribs of the boat.
Can you show a video of how you have done your removable deck? I like the idea of that and want to see how you have it done.
A couple of folks have requested that, so I'd like to. I'm swamped at work for the next few weeks, but maybe I'll be able to put something together when work slows down.
Iré mañana a ver este lugar me queda cerca de la escuela de mi hijo 😂 espero encontrar alguno 🥰…
How much does motor weigh?
95 lbs
Looksed a whole lot bigger than 4 pounds 👀
I can blame the camera angle or a faulty scale. Either way, it was a good fish.
what pitch prop do you have?
I've got a 10 and an 8. 8 is better when I'm pulling a tube, 10 is better if I'm by myself. The 8 can over rev if I'm by myself and don't have extra weight.
