A Cabin and Forty Acres: Chapter 2 The Wish List
We want to see wildlife
You mentioned code? Are in the city? If you aren't, then why is there code? 🤷 That is crazy. Just do your own thing, especially if you don't live in the city.
Even in some of the more rural areas, if the township is incorporated, which mine is there is an established local government with building codes.
Just ignore the tyrants. You as the property owner is the authority of your property. They have no right/no say in how you operate what is yours. They may make false claims that they do have a "right", but gubment don't grant nor take rights. They do undortunately steal freedom to perform them though. Besides these small rural areas don't have the manpower and resources to actually enforce such trivialities and that part is a good thing. Natural Law ftw.
The foundation looks great, how much including labor did it cost for the stone panels? Thank you and if you don't want to list it, that's alright.
The Barron Colorado dry stack was $6000 and it was an additional $3000 for the installation. It is definitely a DIY project, Barron has a ton of install videos on their site, but I just didn't have the time.
apologies for the delayed response, we've been moving from our main residence.
What size deck did you build? Thank you!
12' x14' approx $1400 in materials and $1500 labor
Can you stand up? How tall is the loft roof?
You can't stand in the loft, ceiling is about 5' high, but a full grown adult can move around without issue. main ceiling is cathedral and 15' high
apologies for the delayed response, we've been moving from our main residence.
The broken window replacement was shipped to you but what about installing it?
I did the install; the window replacement was very easy, a quick look at the manufacturer's website and the old window basically pops out and the new slides in. It was a 5 minute job needing only a screw driver and pliers
I’d make that second bedroom a walk in closet / laundry room.
Need space for family and friends!
Love the antler coat rack!
Amazon!
Do you worry about the maintenance of the wood exterior? Like so many others, I love the look of log cabins, but I keep hearing that you have to treat the wood every year to avoid pests, mold, rot, etc.
According to the company the cabin has to be restained every 5 years. I haven't had a bug issue except for 1 borer bee. I do a perimeter spray for termite ants once a year in the late Spring.
There is definitely something large and metal down there! I just bought a stronger magnet! I'll try again next time I'm up there!
Did you squeal and ran away when you saw that snake in May 😅
LOL, no! I have encountered juvenile an adult copperheads and timber rattlers a calm approach is the best way to go!
Disappointed
I just bought a bigger more powerful magnet! There is something big and metal in there and I will pull it out!!
No clothes closet’s no deal
It's not our full time place so we bring up what we need clothes wise. We use under the bed storage bins which work great for bedding and clothes. I also keep some hunting gear up in the loft. The dresser in the master bedroom has a lot of room and we both keep some essentials in it. We make it work!
@@markkraljevich146 I'm with you, I have very few clothes, I like to keep my life simple!
Looking good
Thank you, valuable information.
Glad you found it helpful! I'll have more videos out soon.
Sorry, the end of the video cut off!!😢
It didn't cut off! We still got your kind send off and a "take care"
This post-grad city-boy is in no place to consider land or property or cabin ownership anytime soon BUT color me intrigued. I love some renovation and woodsy content so I'm looking forward to the updates 😁
It's always good to plan ahead, life is short and available property is limited! We'll be doing some drainage work and working on the shooting backstop among other projects once the weather improves.@@SavoryPeach
