Is it truly a sneaker wave if you see it coming? Not to minimize the danger, but these waves aren't uncommon at all - they roll in every few minutes, so getting caught by one shouldn't be considered fluke. Looking at the beach at the start of this video, the sand is wet all the way to the rocks. Warning given.

"Lot's of sneakers today." Yeah ... every 3-5 minutes. They are properly called infragravity waves, and they are prominent during very large surf, especially when there are two or more swells from different directions, which is frequently the case during the winter.

I love Neskowin and proposal rock. When my family starting going to the coast every year for vacation. Neskowin was a camp ground and it had a community kitchen. One year when we went there mybrother and I climbed to the top of proposal rock it was beautiful.

This takes me back. Summer going into 8th grade 2001 I spent a couple weeks in Neskowin with a friend and his family at their cabin right on the beach. Climbed to the top of Proposal Rock one day when the tide was out, got back down and the tide was in and had to swim back to shore. That friend of mine passed due to leukemia in 2007. I haven’t been to Neskowin since but this makes me want to go back and climb it again.

Wierd your name is mike m. My friend mike m died from a sneaker wave, with his wife, about 11 yrs ago, oregon coast. Scary

It's not a "sneaker" anything when you literally see it coming and have PLENTY of time to gtfo of it's way.

In my opinion they are mini Tsunami waves. The wave length is too long for a regular wave. What it reminds me of is a possible underwater landslide. Not large enough to create a giant Tsunami but big enough to create a larger than normal wave with a long wave length to it. I also heard the guy say there were lots of them that day. That would coincide with a smaller underwater landslide, that destabilizes the area causing multiple landslides over a period of time. Just my thoughts.

My first wife and I honeymooned in Neskowin. Over never seen the waves come in THIS far!
