Do a video on lodicules please😊
Great pair of videos and made my old Hubbard paperback so much more understandable. Thank you very much.
Really great models, Very helpful!
A note on the second slide 'what is', Heathland does not mean 'uncultivated land'. The etymology is of course on the second line of your side 'heather'. This found in similar Anglo-Saxon languages, for example Dutch and German 'heide and 'heidekraut'. So yes, heathland IS uncultivated land but that's not where the word comes from.
Excellent Amazing Video!
00:06:43 oooo pretty illustrations!
Ooooo yippee! I hope this is good. Need to know about habitats for my writing I’m doing!!
Thanks for posting this.
So glad I found your post, loving the information. Thank you
Really appreciate your knowledge and clear teaching, so inspirational. Thank you
Thanks so much for this, really useful resource :)
Super cool
Thank you. I will be in Outer Hebrides in early October 2023 and hope to explore "the brindled moor" on Lewis. This has been a really helpful video explaining machair.
Great to hear this has been helpful. Safe trip and enjoy your time exploring Lewis!
Fantastic session. Many thanks
hi! can you provide also a pdf document, please? It was among your promise the day the webinar took place. It will be helpful for me as my English is low to understand exactly the quick speech.
Hi there, We are in the process of updating our web resources. So there is a slight delay, but this is a resource we will be adding to the site as said. I will pop a message here when this has been uploaded. Thanks!
Common Milkwort- the leaves have nothing in Common! Might be a good one to remember the difference.
Thanks it was really helpful to my education, I am studying for my exam rn🙏🏻💚💚
Thank you, really helpful information. I've just signed up
Thank you; but, as a foreigner, it is always interesting to have both names : english and latin...
Second this! Great presentation however, thank you
Thank you, an excellent talk.
So glad you enjoyed
Thank you so much for explaining "machchair" to me. I came across the word in reading Mary Stewart's The Stormy Petrel.
Happy to have helped.
Hai, I just wanted to know the reference to knowing which are plant species are indicator species to sand dune habitat, please? For Dissertation purpose..
Hi there, The list of indicator species for each f the NPMS habitat types can be found in the NPMS Species list booklet. This is on the resources page of the NPMS website. Please feel free to contact PMS support if you need any further assistance finding this.
Great, thank you. I’m about to venture out in the next few days to start my survey, in Sutherland. Bog and Wet Heath included. But it’s raining today. Great news for the bog, which has been quite dry, the pools devoid of standing water. But I’m going to wait for a dry day!
Glad that has been helpful! And very much hope you had an enjoyable survey. Do let us know how you get on.
Thank you for this. Is there any chance you could put it on you tube again with full screen and the sound a little better. If not, no problem.
Hi Steve, sorry for the delay in responding. If you head to our website www.npms.org.uk/ there you will find the original presentation recording under 'Resources' and then 'online training'. That video is then embedded on the website for you to watch.

Sarah, can I just say thank you so much for this talk. I don't know very much about grasses but after watching this I now know a lot more. I've watched a lot of the videos you have uploaded to you tube and they are all brilliant. Keep up this fantastic educational resource, I'm sure many people are learning a lot. Superb.
Ah thanks Steve! Really appreciate that feedback!

Thank you once again for putting these on you tube. Absolutely brilliant, so helpful. 👍👍👍👍👍
Really enjoyed this presentation. Very funny with some good suggestions for memorising plants. Many thanks for putting this on you tube for free.
Thanks for doing this! I finally feel that I understand how a spikelet is put together! Your props made it happen for me!
Thanks, that is great feedback! episode 2 is in the making!
Nice one!! Enjoying your channel. Take a look at PromoSM!!! It will help you get your videos into the suggested feed and rank better in the search!!!

Great thank you.
Such a great video! can't wait for episode two :)
Ah thanks! Hope it will be ready for release in a few weeks
Great video, that I might use with my ecology students
Thanks Martin! So glad it is useful!
Thank you so much for putting these on RUclips. These presentations are brilliant. Please don't remove them because I'll be viewing these talks many times. 👍👍👍👍
Don't worry we won't remove them! Really glad they are so useful!
Fantastic, really enjoyed this.
Thank you!
Great intro to these areas, and funny too! Looking forward to taking this learning out into the field.
Thanks for the video. Do we have to do a plot at each of the 25 squares marked on our map? And I may have missed this in the video, but where is best to check to find out who the landowner is?
Hi Kelly, only 5 plots per 1km square, not all 25, they are simply suggested locations that you can pick from. Alternatively you can create your own locations if those numbered ones don't tally up with semi-natural habitat or a linear feature. On my video Getting Started, also in the playlist for How to Guides, I give some suggestions. But if you get stuck then let me know.
I liked this - the introduction was informative, easy to follow and about the right length. The plant ID was interesting, well described and the whole talk at a good pace and very engaging. I did sign up for the live viewing - apologies for leaving - it was such a lovely day that I just had to ditch it and go out!
Thank you Grace, really appreciate the feedback! And definitely get out in the good weather when you can!
Really useful for my upcoming survey!
Great webinar, thank you!
Great introduction to arable indicator species and great history / explantation to differences of arable margins. Excellent presenting from Hannah!
Thanks for producing this video. I found it useful and I'd rather watch the video on youtube than join the live broadcast. That way, I can dip in and out at my convenience - especially useful when the duration is fairly long.
Glad it was helpful!
@@npmssupport9422 It certainly was. I should have added that I especially appreciated the section on plant ID as I often struggle with similar species - for example the Speedwells!
Thanks for sharing all this knowledge...I'm so interested and especially as volunteering surveying with the CEH Pollinator survey ... Great in depth relevant info! I'm surveying in S Devon and would love more info on finding the rarer species
Our pleasure!
Hello, I don't own a smartphone. How should I go about finding/selecting my plots? Many Thanks in advance...
Hi Sarah, I would say use the plot grid reference crib sheet off the website to give you an accurate grid reference. Then using an OS map mark on the plot, using standard map reading techniques. Then as you would any point on an OS map try to find the spot on the ground by using features and landmarks to help you as marked on the map. This will be as accurate as you can without using a mobile device.
