A lesson in physics demonstrated using a camera. Certainly not photography
@@motorvelo Thank you for your appreciation of science in photography. After all, optics is all physics and image capture was all chemistry and now it is electronics.
A great explanation. I have an Olympus M1 ii that has this feature. I will be giving it a try. Sadly, my Canon R6 ii does not appear to have this feature. Thanks again.
I just discovered your channel. You are an awesome educator. I will be watching more of your lessons. Thank you for your efforts.

hi sir . how you find the Nodal point on the nodal rail ?
There are a lot of videos on this - look up nodal point or no parallax point. The correct term is no parallax point. Let me know if you don not find it and I will do a short video on the topic.
@@ShivVermaphotography Hi thank you so much for responding. yes i know what zero paralax is i have a nodal ninja for hires 360 vr imaging. didnt know that the polaris needed also the zero paralex. but how to setup the body for the nodal point .. i dont know . with the nodal ninja it is easy the way you set the camera in the sliders . than i set two poles in front of the camera and turn the camera slowely and looking true the viewvinder. i set the camera more to the front or back until there is only one pole in the viewvinder when you turn ,,, easy peacy ..
@voederbietels In hat case make a mark with a white or silver felt pen on the Arca Swiss rail attache dot your camera or lens and use that to position your camera or lens as the case may be on the center point of the Polaris. The Polaris does not have any marks but you can measure the clam and obtain the center. Mark that too.
You can get 96mb on the S5 as well
I have seen some of your videos and they are all very good. Good explanations, good examples, good information
Glad you like them! Appreciate your comments, Thanks.
What camera and lens did you use?

good job!

Glad it was helpful!
Shiv, I am exploring my Polaris with your videos. They are good and very informative. Can you do one for single-row and multi-row panos? Thanks, Mahesh
Thank you for watching and your feedback. Yes, I will create a video on MR Panos soon.
Thanks @@ShivVermaphotography. I returned the unit as it was too slow for my use cases and decided to go with ZWO AM5. However, I love your work and will look to join one of your workshops in the near future.
Wonderful trip and excellent clips. I bet you had a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching. Yes, the trip was fabulous.
Thanks mate. I was missing one crucial step in the process - turning the drive mode dial on the top left hand side of the camera to "High Resolution Mode". You've explained everything in detail, step by step. Even a novice like me understood and was able to follow. Very much appreciated Liked and subbed.
Glad it helped
Great video sir
Thank you - most appreciated.
Since the documentation is absolutely awful, could you kindly produce videos that shows step-by-step guys for each of the shooting modes?
Hi - I have just returned from Africa after a month of safaris. Yes, I will do my best to get some of your requests satisfied. Regards.
@@ShivVermaphotography Thank you, looking forward to it.
So the benefit of the Polaris is more about ease-of-use and automating the focus stack process (assuming your camera/lens supports it)? This is still very much achievable without the Polaris, just more work, correct? Aren't the newest cameras equipped with focus stacking modes? I am new to photography so actually curious why this device might be worth buying. I understand it has many other features.
Should i buy the best lenses to see tge the excellent results of photos?
Always invest in good glass (lenses) they will outlast you cameras through many upgrades.
hi shiv, have you made the standard panorama tutorial video. i've been looking for it but can't find it.thank you
shiv, i want to take standard multi row panoramas [not astro] with my polaris. could you please explain or make a video on how to program the app to make the panorama. when i try to program the app to take 6 pics of two rows it only takes 3 pics of the beginning and 3 pics of the end points . there is nothing in between.i've tried a number of times with no results.i tried to use the pro mode but that didn't work either.thank you
Thank you for watching. I will do my best to get this video out before the end of next week. Pro mode is the easiest as you do not have to do any calculations.
thank you very much. i watched your videos and i think that you can really help me. looking forward to watching the video you will post. i assume that i con take standard panoramas. i want to take multi row panos. i just can't program the app to take multi row panos. i can't figure out how to program the number of shots and then put in a beginning and ending positioning and have the polaris take all the shots.@@ShivVermaphotography
I was inspired to test auto leveling to see if now that the astro accessory axis of rotation is vertical one could shoot a panorama through rotation of the astro head. Nope. This capability would be useful for landscape panoramas. Without this capability why bother with auto leveling a Polaris? In fact why bother burdening your tripod with the Polaris at all if all you are doing is single shots? Executing a pro mode landscape panorama with auto leveling could actually be useful, and convenient: rotate to the start and end points, enter the lens focal length, sensor size, orientation, and desired overlap, and press start. Include executing an HDR exposure bracket at each position as an option to take even greater advantage of automation.
Hi, I am not quite sure of your comment. Yes, auto leveling is only possible with the astro module, but you do not need the Polaris to do panoramas except if you want it automated. Thanks for watching. Appreciated.
@@ShivVermaphotography Indeed, manually shooting panoramas is a straightforward process, and the Benro Polaris offers two modes for automating the process. What puzzles me is of what use is auto-leveling? Once leveled the remaining functionality is so limited as to be trivial. One possibility that could be useful is a third automated panorama mode that pans the now leveled astro head. I’ve suggested this in an email to Benro (taking advantage of an established dialogue).
Thank you Shiv! You've just answered all my questions about tethering my S1H to the Lightroom!
You are most welcome.
Great, thank you so much!
You are most welcome.
excellent video !!!👌👌👌
Thank you so much. Appreciated.
Hello Shiv, I tried the Polaris focus stacking mode on my Sony a7c + a6500 + AF lenses and it didn’t work. I asked Benro support team and they sent me a video demo showing the process on Canon + power zoom lens and specified it must be an ‘electric power lens’. I am testing various AF lenses but I don’t have a power zoom lens. Also, the language barrier is an issue with Benro support.
I haven't watched all of your Polaris videos so you may have already covered this. I'm curious if the Benro app will allow you to set up multi-row panoramas. Thanks for the video instruction.
Thank you for watching this video. Yes, the Polaris can do multi-row panoramas and also tracked panoramas in Astro mode.
Would help to show cable connections which the instructions on the Benro Polaris do a poor job of showing.
Thank you. I will cover this at the earliest.
Thank you very much for the video, Is this mode possible with flash?
Thank you for your question. Since Hi-Res mode is multiple captures using sensor shift technology and is very rapid there is not enough time for the flash to recycle and fire at the same rate. So no, this is not possible when using a flash.
Really inspiring
Thank you so much. Regards.
Excellent demonstration thank you very much! I always been afraid of using strobe lights! Thank you!
Thank you so much for your feedback Most appreciated.
Can you use this mode on the panasonic S5ii with subjects with a little movement, such as portraits or landscapes?
Landscapes yes but I would be careful with portraits. Not my choice.
Thanks for the tip on the vertical mount. I encountered the issue last night and shot with just a ball head. I'll add the nodal rail mount to my Polaris kit.
The mount and the rail really help a lot. Regards, Shiv
Hi Shiv! Stumbled across your UTube page. I met you at Unique Photo in Fairfield, NJ. I bought the Polaris. I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. I'm hoping your video helps.--Pat
Hi Pat, Thanks for watching. I am working on more How To videos - let me know what you need help with. Regards.
Thanks. Very good complete and very useful. Please keep them coming. I am learning a lot.
Appreciate your feedback. Thank you.
Well, you’ve inspired me to try focus stacking with the Benro Polaris. No clear sky even in the long range forecast so mastering BP for tracked nightscape panos will have to be set aside anyway. I do still have a functional copy of qDslrDashboard on my iPad which I’ve used quite satisfactorily for lens focused stacking. I suspect the BP will not displace qDslrDashboard for this application, but putting it to the test is a good use of a cloudy day.
Thank you and so happy that I have been able to give you something more to do. The Polaris is great at capture but I keep all assembly to software on my computer. Regards.
@@ShivVermaphotography Indeed, the JPEGs are suitable for transfer of previews to the app via WiFi and that’s all. Photoshop focus stack processing has improved, pushing back the point at which it’s time to spool up Zerene Stacker a bit. Now if Benro Polaris could do a panning, focus stacked time-lapse, that would be a novelty.
@@michaelmckeag960 Hope they read this thread but I will let them know your thoughts.
Shiv, these videos are great. Looking forward to future ones re: Panos on Milky Way and constellations in general.
Thank you M. Give me a few clear nights please. Best regards, Shiv
could you use the playbal elitel to level the polaris
Yes you could for sure. Thank you for watching.
Congratulations on your willingness to detail the features of the Benro Polaris, in such a scarce scenario of information about the equipment. My main interest in using BP is in astrophotography. I'm not a tracker user, which makes it more difficult to understand how BP works. I look forward to your videos using the Astro kit. Hug.
Thank you for your comments. I have every intention of doing a BP astro video at the earliest - I just need a few nights of clear skies. Best regards, Shiv
Hi Shiv, Greetings from the UK from one of your new subscribers. I came here because of your Benro Polaris videos but have enjoyed your other content as well. Please do more Benro Polaris detail videos - your content on the Polaris is the best I’ve seen on RUclips that details how to actually use it effectively. I’d particularly love to see videos on using it for Milky Way landscapes and other Astro landscape photography topics. A detailed tutorial on using the Polaris for Timelapse’s would be great as well. One other question, what do we need to do to enter your competition that you mentioned at the start of this video?
Hi Marcus, Greetings and a big thank you for subscribing. Your feedback is most appreciated and yes I plan on doing all the videos you suggested. Some of the night sky material can only be created when we have clear nights - a rarity this time of year. The giveaway will just be a random pick on one subscriber - it is not a competition. As the Chanel grows I will be doing more giveaways and may do some competitions. Best regards, Shiv
I too find the detail and clarity of your Benro Polaris videos exceed that of any other treatment I’ve discovered on RUclips. My primary application is tracked nightscape panoramas. It’s proven to be quite a challenge to figure out a workflow in detail that succeeds. I think I may finally have figured it out, but test runs have only been indoors, now impatiently waiting for clear night sky to test for real. My photographic interests are about as diverse as the potential talents of the Benro Polaris so will be following your future treatments with interest.
@@michaelmckeag960 Thank you, Michael for your comments. Much appreciated. I would love to hear more about your workflow, I feel we can always learn from each others experiences. Waiting for clear nights (and a bit warmer weather too). Regards, Shiv
Thank you for sharing, How is the experience on using the Panasonic Camera on the Benro polaris unit. Any function using experience? focusing stars on your screen clearly feed with liveview? could you share some insight use please. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback. So far I have used the Benro with the S5 Mk II and everything works very well. We have had very few clear skies but I have had no issues focusing on the stars and seeing clearly on the screen. Also tracking works well. I will be doing a future video on the performance and also on tracking including tracked panoramas. Is there something specific you would like me to create?
Thanks for the series, much appreciated!
You are welcome. Thank you for watching.
Hi. Great video. Does the benro actually more the camera like a focus rail or does it only manipulate the focus point/step? If it's moving the focus point I assume it can't be used with a manual macro/ultra macro lens..
Thank you for your comment. No, the Polaris does not move the camera lens combination only the lens is refocused in steps. A manual lens will not work. Regards.
Great video.
Thank you sir. Most appreciated..
I discovered your channel in a search for tutorials on the Benro Polaris, and now find your photography interests to be eclectic. This video and another of yours on flower studio macro lighting and backgrounds suggest methods I will experiment with. The wildflowers here are starting to emerge. Between Milky Way arch panoramas and wildflower field and studio portraits there will be little time for sleep (and no time for boredom).
Thank you for watching. You comments are appreciated. If you have questions, I will be happy to try and answer them.
