Hi there, just FYI the channel is called "nothing" the ∅ refers to the mathematical symbol for nothing or empty set. I have been very interested in the concept of zero and nothing in math and physics since I was young and it has just stuck with me. That being said this is a lock sport, lock picking, and locksmithing channel where I am sharing things that I am working on, personal accomplishments and challenges and I am going to try to teach a few things along the way. I am very new to You Tube so any helpful comments and suggestions are appreciated. Also please feel free to ask questions in the comments, I will do my best to get them answered for you. Thanks and take care.

This is a bit of a different video. Instead of just picking a lock I go over a security device and show the ins and outs. Please let me know if you like this and if I should do more of these where I feature security products that are not just locks or if I should just stick to straight lockpicking.

In this video I pick and gut a Sargent and Greenleaf 4440 safe deposit box lock. This is a very nice lock from the design of the levers to the anti pick protection and everything else. It is also a huge pain in the ass to pick as you can see in the video.

This is another Yale safe deposit lock. This is the older version of the one I recently featured and is much less secure. There are no serrations or false gates and is way easier to pick open.

8:44 This is my first time seeing this but from my vantage point I believe that the lever on number six prevents all the others from falling down and blocking the key from entering the lock. Just a guess since I don’t have the lock in front of me.
Interesting thought, but the levers actually rest on the fence, which prevents them from dropping any lower. That piece on lever 6 doesn't actually contact all of the levers at rest. It lifts them up to where all of the gates align.
Nice one, though I'd suggest leaving one or two elastics in place to keep the picks against the tensioning core as you pick initially, and hold the picks in position for impressions.
Thanks! Took me about 10 viewings to get it. Even then, I'm not sure if I figured it out, or got lucky.
Anyway you can drill these out to replace it with a key to lock? I know that it probably not a popular solution, but interested to know since customers prefer keys these days, but I love the antique look of these boxes.
Excellent video, very instructional. But is there a tubular impressioning tool that works on the ace 2 lock. And how much tension should I use when I spp this. Example like pressing an elevator button. Something I can relate to in my head. Thanks
These tools will actually work on Ace 2 locks, as will most other tubular impressioning tools. Some can just be a bit fiddly, and it's easier to pick one pin at a time. You don't need a ton of pressure just enough to push the pins down pretty much the same as when using a key. The Turing force you use is more important, but again, it doesn't take a whole lot. The most important part is the resistance on the tool. Like with these, it would be how many rubber rings you put on or on other tools it's how much you tighten the collar. The best way to learn is just to get the feel for it by practicing.
@@NothingPicksLocks ok brother, thanks for all the info. I didn't even know u responded till know. I ordered those huk tubular from gangbang or something like that. Been almost 3 weeks and I am still waiting. I will try what u said and let u know.
Can u try the pro 1
I would if someone lent me one, but I refuse to give Peterson any money or support due to personal reasons.
I don't need your history get that f****** s*** open
That pretty dang brilliant. I'd love one of those peterson tools but they are ridiculously expensive for what they are.
Yes, they absolutely are.
I'm having a bit of trouble with an old P.O. box that I found with a lock that looks similar. When I try to put pressure on the fence, I am unable to drop into the gate. Could I have a different kind of lock, or am I likely doing it wrong (The only difference between my P.O. box and yours seems to be that I do not have a dial fence, it is instead a lever. But it does have the star shape and letters A-J).
Hi, sorry for the delayed response. RUclips is horrible at notifying me. Anyway, I'd love to help. If you want you can send pictures to nothingpickslocks@gmail.com so I can see what we're working with.
Donde se puede conseguir
I bought a safe from the a$$holes closing down the 99 cent stores. When I went to get the safe they only gave me one key. The manager was useless in providing any contact info for the lazy bastard that is running around with the corporate office key. They are closing down and have my money so why bother returning my calls emails etc. I'm going to pick it but I thought I'd try to save time by using the appropriate pick set. That can make or break a successful entry. It's a blue dot custom designed drop safe. Digital on the top safe which is 3 times the size of the drop safe in the bottom. I believe it is a b440 double nose. It has the auto lock spring set up. I wanted to know what pick set name type etc you'd recommend. I'm going to have to buy new picks as mine were in my gun safe when it was stolen. I recognize the irony there. It might have been worth the loss if I could have seen them move the vault with 10,000 rounds of armor piercing 7.62x39 rounds and appx 75 guns. If you have a suggestion on the pick issue I'd appreciate your input. Thanks for the videos.
Holy shit, sorry for your loss. I really hope you had that shit insured. I'll have to double-check the model to see what would work best for you, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can. If you can email me at nothingpickslocks@gmail.com with some pictures, that would help as well.
I know this is a long shot but what size roll pin did you use to make the tensioner?
I'm not 100% sure, I have a variety of sizes that I carry around, so I can just use whichever one fits the best. In my opinion, the best thing to do is just get a whole bunch of them ranging from 1/8" to 3/8" and just carry them in a bag with your pick. I also have made custom pick handles to hold the bigger and smaller ones, but I pick weird locks lol. On the high side, you may just want to find the biggest size that will fit in your tensioning handle and then go down from there and make a variety. They are super easy to make. I even carry unmodified roll pins in case I encounter something weird, and I have to file one down on the spot as well as tip blanks so I can make weird tips on the fly as well. Haha, I didn't plan on writing a book. Sorry for the long reply. I hope that helped a bit.
@@NothingPicksLocks Thanks for replying and in full detail. I too have a sparrows dd pick and need to start making custom tensioners. I'll stop by the hardware store tomorrow and see what they have! Again I really appreciate you getting back to me so fast.
@@ListentoGallegos absolutely, I will when I can
how do i get that key, i would like it as a keepsake
You can very easily get it online.
So question if you tool get baby up buy new one ? Or ?
Could you show how you would pick a Detex ECL-230D / ECL-230D-PH / ECL-600 series lock?
I can definitely try to get my hands on them to do a video on them, although the lock at the top and / or bottom would be the same as I showed in this video but the lock in the middle can be any mortise style cylinder that the building decides to put in there.
"Snake tongue" or "serpent pick" would be a good name for that pick you made. Not to be confused with a snake rake of course. I know you nerds like your names (us nerds)
I left the tool intact, added some rubber bands to make the 'feelers' more stiff and spp'd the lock. It's similar to what you've done, maybe as a first step before straightening the 'feelers'? thanks
Cancel that. The increased stiffness led to more oversets, so I adopted your method with success. thanks
whats spp?
@@badkng1 single pin pick
Thanks man
Nice job. I like the spp with the impression tool.😊
You must be a third grade school teacher because you sound like my children's 3rd grade teacher trying to explain " new math" she kept saying its easy, just listen.
I have a Sam Criswell wood box with a brass front and it has the label on the bottom with the combination but I can’t figure out how to open it. The original papers are inside and I’m dying to see them. If I send you photos could you pleeeease tell me how to open it?
Yes I most likely can. You can email me at mr.nothingpicks@gmail.com
Nice work. I got two of these without keys from Ebay today. Is it important that I pick these open counterclockwise?
Sorry for the late reply, I'm sure you've gotten them open by now. This lock just happened to pick open counterclockwise easier than clockwise, so I just picked it ccw and used a plug flipper to open it. You absolutely do not have to pick it ccw. If I remember correctly, they only open when turned clockwise.
Thank you for sharing your technique. When i saw it i had a duh moment. I should have thought of that lol. Youve more than earned my sub
What lockpick set is that and where can I buy it?
The jigglers for the wafer lock were just cheap jigglers from like Ali Express or something, but for the morise cylinder, that was a homemade tension tool with one of the ToooL wicked waves rakes.
I never had trouble taking that cover off. Just put the key in a turn clockwise it will open
Lol yea that's when you have the key 🔑 🤣
@@NothingPicksLocks Absolutely
Worked like a charm
Can I just use the keys to take the lock apart? The bolt is bent a little bit on my lock. I want to straighten it out a little. Thanks
You don't need to use the keys, you just take the screws out of the front cover. Unless I am misunderstanding what's going on.
Thank-you!!! I just opend the coin and service door (top of meter) 1st one took 1 hour, 2nd one took 5 minutes. 😂 Are keys 🔑 avaliable for this lock. (That aren't $75)?
Great job on the open. Unfortunately, it's hard to get keys for these because of the way the lock and key are made together, but it's a really cool process, so you should check it out if you are interested.
You didn’t attempt the 3rd lock and that’s the type I’m trying to pick
This should work on all tubular locks that the tool will fit in.
Thats awesome
😳😳😳 Security!
This is funny, man potentially recording himself committing felony trespassing. I don’t know for sure the context but if permission wasn’t asked and the business pursued charges, this would be really bad for the defendant.
LOL. No, I am working there. I am also helping them remedy the situation.
Ive bid jobs like this and I guarantee you the owner shaved a few hundred dollars in materials costs with this idea. It ends up costing him much more money, and I have no pity, its glorious.
Yeah, it's great. I see shit like this everywhere!
You think it would work if I just got a regular rubber band and just made it small by overlapping it
Yea, it should if I understand you correctly.
My grandpa made // gifted me one of these boxes over ten years ago and I forgot the combo. I checked probably five different videos and this was the one that worked, and really quickly too. Thank you.
You are very welcome. I'm really happy I was able to help.
What kind of lock is the tubular lock at the very top?
I honestly can't remember, but I think it is a Fort Lock GEM
Thanks for this, I was able to get our old coin box open with this technique.
Awesome, I'm super happy to hear that!
Nice work. I actually have the entire working Duncan parking meter with these locks in it.
Nice! I've been working on getting one myself. I work closely with people that are removing tons of them and replacing them with park mobile signs but I haven't been able to get them to give me one yet.
@@NothingPicksLocks I actually use mine as a timer for frozen pizza in the oven. LOL
@thelockpickinglebowski633 Haha that's fuckin awesome!
Nice work. One of the slider locks going on the challenge chest cannot be tensioned. It just spins and spins until the picker descends in to madness.
Oh fuck, I hate those, but I'm pretty sure I have found a way to get them open.
@@NothingPicksLocks Haha! I have full faith in your abilities, mi amigo. It's definitely one of my favorite cam locks.
I always wonder what it's like having a job assembling these types of locks. Nice work.
I've never put much thought into that but I'm sure it will keep me up tonight lol
Not sure why Medeco doesn't offer counseling for the mental scarring which keyways like this inflict upon pickers.
Haha yea really. If things work out I'm supposed to be removing a ton of these from dorms that are being torn down so I'll have plenty of opportunities to I crease my Insanity
@@NothingPicksLocks That. Is. Awesome. I hope you score those.
A lot of pickers still aren't aware of just how easily some of these can be scrubbed open.
Yea about 20-30% of them rake open in seconds. There is an exploit though that I'm still doing research on to see how many are vulnerable. So far I have o lying found a few that it didn't work on.
Been watching your videos for a long time and checking out your progress. I'm currently working on the sequel to the challenge chest I sent to Bosnian Bill. But since Bill retired, I must find the right picker to ask if they want to be the first to try opening version #2. Someone over on Twitter mentioned The Lock Picking Lawyer. But I was quick to notify them that the difficulty level will be way above his skill level and the only lock even resembling a traditional pin tumbler lock is a Medeco. Yourself and Retep Reyem are the first two I thought of with the skills to possibly open this thing. What are your thoughts?
Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I think we spoke about this previously, but I would be honored to give it a shot.
Was the video edited? I understand differentiating JA vs EF as the former is a false vs the latter being the true gate given you the 2nd number of the combination. I also get brute forcing the 1st letter(s) of the combination as you are cracking in reverse. But, unless I don't understand the basic here, I am not seeing how you got the last combination of GH? It would also help to know when and why you stopped letting go of pressure on the gate as I watched your L hand on the knob and it does appear to relax at times.
Nope, not edited. My left hand is probably only relaxing when it doesn't need to be applying pressure or when I am applying too much pressure for the dial to turn properly. As for the final letter in the combo, the knob puts direct pressure from the fence onto the wheel pack, so if you have brute forced the first letter and you know the second letter all you have to do is apply pressure to the knob and the fence will fall into the gate when you reach it since the first two wheels are already lined up.
I was confused at first too. But then realized at the last round HE: started at I, went around the known E/F, then while spinning it, back he said he felt it grinding. Then just said it was open and opened it. BUT it LOOKED like the dial was at I/J when he opened it. But I assume he FELT it go fully into the slot around G/H, which is why he said he thought it was around G/H. I assume there is just a significant amount of slop in there so once it was all lined up it could go another 2 places and still open.
Awesome. Learning a truly awesome skill.
I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Too much talk
How so? I'm asking honestly as this was one of my first videos and I appreciate the feedback.
These lock picking educational video could be doing more harm than good by encouraging dishonest people.
I have heard that argument quite a bit, but statistically, lock picking is by far the least used method by thieves. Lock picking is a skill that takes time to master as well as taking time to actually accomplish in the field. There are many quicker and easier ways to accomplish the same thing that I will not be posting for that reason. We teach lock picking to educate people about the products they are using so they can make a more informed decision on what they want protecting them and their belongings. We all know the companies selling these products will not be as straightforward.
Worked thanks
Awesome, glad to hear it!
Impressive! 👏
