2008 WRX/Impreza rear strut replacement

So it turns out, pretty sure you don't need to take all of those covers in the back to access the nuts. I was just being precautionary. Also, I forgot to mention that I kept one nut on a couple threads so it wouldn't fall out on you. Make sure to obviously take the top nut off once you slip the bottom of the strut out of the A-arm. I hope this video helps!
Subaru WRX turbo leak (sound of leak, fix, explanation)

0:00 Explanation 1:40 Sound of the leak 2:00 What I found Symptoms of the leak were a loud turbo noise, running slightly rough at idle, taking out of gear as I come to a stop it struggled to come back to idle and sometimes stalled, and a P0172 came on which is a engine running rich code. Fix was the intercooler hose off the throttle body came loose/failed. Got a new OEM hose, runs great now

Just got a sweet deal on this 86 trx250r. Been told it was bored .30 over. Planning on restoring the whole thing, maybe I'll do a video series on it. Let me know some suggestions about the bike and the restoration.

What a performance,😂
Same sound. I hope this is my issue. Thanks for the video
Thank you so much man
@@lolblur87 you bet! Glad I can help
Bro my turbo is sounding like a supercharger. I checked both charge pipes and still nothing. Maybe I’ll check here next
When this was happening did you lose power ? I'm struggling right now
Yes, I was losing partial engine power
Would it continue to make the sound and higher the faster you went or more throttle you give it?
@@thepotterandclayministry basically as you apply the throttle it'll get louder until you let off the throttle. Just like what it sounds like in the video.
@@thepotterandclayministry nothing to do with the speed, more to do with the load of the engine with the given throttle
Thank you yeh that's what I have would it do it with the car in park or neutral and reved?
Can this cause black smoke from exhaust
In theory, yes. I had a fuel rich code. A very rich fuel/air mixture will cause some black smoke to come out of the exhaust. I didn't notice any smoke out of my exhaust, but I did notice an unpleasant fuel smell
Thanks so much man!!! I've noticed my 2016 wrx start doing this the other day but never checked that.
Glad my video was helpful 🤙
Thank you. I have the same issue on my 2008 LGT. I suspect it was the intercooler, but wasn’t 100% certain. I appreciate your helpful video that helps me to narrow it down to the intercooler.
Happy the vid helps!
Hey man i have the same issue on my 2013 wrx any idea what the name of the slip gasket is that goes onto the hose is called?? trying to save some money Thanks in advance
Let me know what the issue was, Im having the same issue and sound. Currently own a 12 WRX hatch
Check out my updated video! Explains everything
@@kylersmith7425 I didnt realize it, but Ive already seen your video to fix my boost leak last time. Fantastic I have another one 😒
@@Warthirium best of luck my friend!
Hey Kyler. Was that with or without a DB killer? Looking into the MIVV
Don't think the exhaust comes with a db killer! I could be wrong though. My bike came like the way it is when I bought it, but I am almost certain there is not a db killer installed. This setup does have a cat still installed though since the mivv is just a slip on
Hi thanks for the video i have same problem but in my case the tube is leaking oil , is it normal to be oil on them ? Thanks.
Shouldnt have any oil on them, but it's normal to have oil inside the tube. I would check clamps for tightness, might be loose. Also check the hose for cracks especially around where the clamps are. Might be overtightened and split or just worn out. Or, just like in the video, the flap thing inside the tube is blown out
@@kylersmith7425 thank you 🙏, so in this case i shouldn’t be worried for the turbo right? Just to check the hose and change them if needed, there no smoke 💨 coming out of exhaust or any weird sounds .
@@rinor3681 yeah if it's making the noise in my video, take a look at the hose I took out. Relatively cheap part and easy fix. Doesn't have anything to do with the turbo assuming that's the issue
Boring introduction
Cool story
Had a similar issue in my 2005 S60R after a crash
Thank you so much buddy I have this problem too and I’m fixing thank you
I'm glad it helped!
Mines not making any noises but my boost gauge is usually boosting at 15-17 pounds ish but now in 2nd gear I’ll only boost at 12 pounds , then in 3rd gear I’ll be back up to 15, but I can see the boost loosing pressure at like 5-6k rpm. 4th gear it still pulls but not like before. Idk if it’s a boost leak or a bad turbo, help!
If the turbo is bad, chances are it would make a grinding noise. The bearings usually would go out and either seize or make a terrible noise. It sounds like there is a turbo leak somewhere. Most shops can test your turbo system with a smoke tester. Probably pretty cheap for them to test it for you compared to buying a smoke machine. There's ways to DIY it, you could look it up. Gonna be near impossible to pin point where a leak is coming from without a noise. Shop diagnosis's around where I'm at are around 50-70 dollars, you might get a smoke test done for less. That's what I'd recommend. It'll save you the headache and worry.
@@kylersmith7425 yeah that what I’ve been looking at, just would suck if I had to replace the turbo, thank you for the reply!
@@gabeclark3684 good luck! Happy holidays
How many miles at failure?
I think it was about 160k
Thanks man. I knew it was something stupid like that! All I did was remove that piece and put a $5 hose on it. Works fine.
Glad the video helped! 😊
Mine sounds more like when you release air out of a balloon. But squeeze the part of ballon that lets air out
What do you think about this sound, is it the same as sound of your car? ruclips.net/video/Z0uMApi79dA/видео.html&feature=share
It's hard to say. How long has it been doing that? Have you noticed the vehicle's performance decrease?
Also, do you lose boost pressure and engine power when you accelerate?
I guess I'm not sure what sound you're referring to. Are you referring to the low whistling sound?
Yah I put a hks bov on my 2014 and didn’t put the intercooler bar back on and when it jumped it was ripping my throttle body hose to shreds and it was making the same sound
Fixed this problem on mine after a whole year of owning the car. It was completely blown off making no noise and barely any boost. Had no idea this problem existed.
Glad you got it fixed! I'm sure it runs great now
Thanks for this video, I did some work on my LGT and heard this sound and freaked out (thought I had blown my turbo or munched my sti 6 speed box somehow). Ordered the mishimoto hose to get rid of the problem.
Glad the video helped!
So simply replacing this big short hose took care of the issue? I’m guessing the hose was letting air in because it was deformed? Interesting..
@@Mike_44 no, actually was a boost leak. The OEM hose has rubber end caps that disintegrate over time. Aftermarket silicone hose is 1 piece, avoiding this issue
@@FanaticalRK Good to hear it was this and not the turbo itself. This is probably why I feel the rubber burnt smell and the growling/fffrrrrr kind of noise

What the part number for that boot
I do not remember the part number, I'd recommend calling your local Subaru dealership. They can for sure get you a part number/get you the right part for your WRX
@@kylersmith7425 I did they said they need part number :/
What boost were you getting?
I don't have any way of checking the boost on it stock without an accesport or something of the like, sorry.

Please help me out on my hilux.i uploaded a video on my channel 😭
Sounds like my farts after Taco Bell
Wear your seat belt. No excuses will keep you from dying. A low speed spin out in rainy weather like you are driving in at the end of the video is enough to kill you if the car slides into a solid object and your head smacks something like the roof or a window pillar. If the sensor is broken for the buckle being latched fix that. You never know what can happen passing through any intersection. People run lights and stop signs all the time and a low speed t-bone can end you when you did nothing wrong. I've had people taken from my life more than once from simple car accidents.
Thank you for your concern
Sounds nice. What did you do to your exhaust.
Thank you. I actually haven't done anything personally with the exhaust, the previous owner put an aftermarket system in. I've never actually looked what is on it
Thanks, thought my belt was slipping...
Thanks for the video. Do you happen to have the name of the part or the part number? Thanks again.
Unfortunately I do not. I'm sure your local subaru dealership can give you a part number through the parts department. The hose was the hose coming off the throttle body to the intercooler. There's only one hose that does. I'd call it a throttle body intercooler hose.

I might have the same problem I got the same code
My 2011 WRX just started making that sound yesterday. I’m literally 1k miles into my freshly broken in rebuilt short block and new OEM turbo
I was told at the dealer when I grabbed the new one that it was a factory defect and that the new ones were "updated". Looked like the same material and design as before. Least you can do is take it off and take a peak. A lot of people don't put them on right and the hose doesn't seat correctly. I went to go take mine off and it slipped off along with the intercooler. I'd put a little lithium grease inside the hose and slip it all the way in. Tighten that clamp down good, too!
mystify tt alright thanks for the heads up! I’m lucky to have a buddy who’s much more experienced than I am and he’s going to help me take a look at it tomorrow. I hope I have the same problem that you had! Seems like it was an easy fix
I’m getting a po171 code to lean but I can’t find a vacuum leak
The code that popped up for me was po172 too rich. It wasn't a vacuum leak, it was a turbo pressure leak. This was one of the least common things that set off a po172. The most common fix for that code is a bad/dirty map sensor next to the air box. Maybe check that little guy, clean the connectors up or replace the whole thing and see what happens?
Running an airbox will cause the MAP to get covered in oil sometimes, causing the code. The filter required oil, and that gets onto the MAP. I got tired of cleaning the MAP, even had to buy a new o-ring for the MAP cuz they go bad after removing it a few times. Im officially done with the airbox and put the stock box back.
