How Do You Fix This ? Repairing Jungle Queen
Thanks Graham! Thanks Kim! I've a Gottlieb Mustang that is waiting for this procedure. Seems a lot less daunting now.
What do you do if you don't have a donor Jones plug? Is there a way to make a new 'board' piece and then transfer the pins from the old plug to the new one?
Thanks Graham and Kim. Very informative video particularly about the uncommon issues such as the jones plug and the spinning contacts on the switch blades. Re the video length, I usually wait till I have some decent time available to watch your videos so I don't mind the longer ones. I'm in Sydney and still planning to get up and see you guys, hopefully soon.
Thanks guys, with 3 Ems in the queue every little detail I can gain from you is gold.
Thanks mate glad you find them useful.
I checked out the Pinball Scientist. Very cool he’s from my home state. I know it’s time consuming to shoot these videos, I always manage to learn something and appreciate you sharing your experience. Australia is on my bucket list, I hope I don’t kick the bucket before I’m able to travel there.
Glad you checked him out. If you ever come down under your most welcome to visit the Goat Shed.
Thank you for the shoutout, Kim! 😁 I hope you and Graham are doing well! See you at Expo! 🍻
My pleasure yes see you at Expo.
The worst thing is repairing a game that some hack had his hands in in the past. Thankfully, it ended up in competent hands. Looking forward to seeing you again at York. Make sure you bring enough hay for Spanky!
Oh we've met before ? What's your name? Spanky willbe onthe Yuengling at York.
Hmm... Wondering if the game was high-tapped. Needlessly high-tapping a game accelerates wear on steppers, score units, etc., and can cause increased arcing and overheats coils. Shop a game properly, and there's no need to high-tap it if the line voltage is adequate.
No it wasn't simply old age wear and tear in this instance.
Definitely a head scratcher I'm glad Spanky hung in there. You guys did an amazing job. That sucks that no parts for those relays. But as you said you got to do what you got to do to keep the game running. Where did you get the new pf?
Yes it was a dooozie, wish you could get the relay parts but it is what it is. The playfield we believe was from Wade Krause.
Steve Young and the pinball resource are National treasures.
Most definitely
Looks like you had to do quite a lot of reverse engineering. I’m happy there are men like you two that care about these lovely old machines.
Thanks we certainly did have lot to do but finally cracked it. The journey wasn't as smooth as we would have liked.
Congratulations and thanks for the video guys, have yourselves a couple of cold ones.. 👍
Thanks mate we sure will.
Nice video. can't wait to see the troubleshooting aspect. pretty advanced for 1968. Spanky is right on it
Yes quite complex.
It looks like one of the most complex early 4 player machines I’ve ever seen. I bet the schematic is going to be fun to decipher. Thanks for a great 1st video on it.
Yes it quite complex and a fully populated cabinet more relays than you'd normally see for certain.
Thanks guys, I haven’t seen the “flipper, arrow feature” before. Pretty ingenious way of adding interest to a game.
Yes it certainly is.
My gottlieb pro-football wont score the 6 points after a touchdown only gives the 6,000 points
Ok please ask the question on our Facebook page The Goat Shed EM Pinball Repair Specialists that way others can benefit 😉
Hey my friend and I are currently trying to figure out why the motor on the pinball machine is constantly running from the moment we plug it in? Any tips or insight on this issue?
Hi that's a very common question we've actually done a video previously on this subject. We prefer to answer technical questions on our Facebook group page The Goat Shed EM Pinball Repair Specialists, that way it helps others with similar problems. Also you need to tell us what game it is.
Great video, I really appreciate you guys making these pinball repair videos, it has helped me out a lot!
Glad it helped you makes us happy.
Russell
Great video. So nice to see such knowledge. I have a Bowling Queen, but a ball became stuck in a gate and the score kept ticking up. I did not know how to stop it so killed the power. Since then I cannot get it to power up again. Any ideas? Thanks again!
Hi Phil thanks for watching our videos. So we do all our technical help on our Facebook page. The Goat Shed EM Pinball Repair Specialists if your not a member please join we will help you and other people will benefit from your problem.
It's mentioned to use Sugar Soap for cleaning off grimy/greasy residue from the paint on the cabinet. The equivalent is TSP in Canada and U.S. France and The Netherlands should look into a brand called St Marc. Australia and New Zealand should look at brands named Selleys and XL.
Yea different brands all over a lot of people don't know the term Sugar Soap in the states we've discovered. We have Selleys here to.
What’s the best way to order Marco and Graham’s books as far as you guys getting the $$?
Just order them through Amazon or similar they get there royalties twice a year from memory.
Great to hang out with you guys, come for the EM knowledge, stay for spanky and the ambient sounds.
Thanks for joining in glad you enjoyed it.
Dang! Missed it again, I'll have to move to a different time zone.
Never mind it's available now on the channel.
@@goatshedempinballrepair8545 Okay, great, dinner and Goat Shed it is.
@chuckufarley5884 an excellent combination for sure!
Patience and visits to the pub are essential to maintaining focus!
Absolutely 💯
Hi Kim, any idea where I could get one of these AS/FS units for a super spin?
Oh, there our there, but you probably won't get one for the exact game they are wired differently, so be a matter of rewiring if you have one missing!
@@goatshedempinballrepair8545 if I can't get one, does it just mean there will be no match at the completion of a game or does it affect other things as well
or should I just buy all the individual components?
@@tonypreston7353 I'd try and buy a complete unit and go from there
Thanks for the new springs on the snowshoes. They should really help.
Yeah one was actually broken
Great work as usual. As always it’s not what you do it’s what someone else does for you. Thanks for sharing. Bob. 👍
That's very true
Great work Graham. The sequence actuator and switch works excellently now. Outstanding.
We knew something was wrong took a bit of time to figure out but was obvious in the end. Still lots of issues to work through.
Incedible find, guys! One definitely has to have good mechanical skills when working on EM machines... and never assume its assembled correctly. Good job!
Had us puzzled for a while.
What does sequence banking mean in pinball games? Sequencing what?
So the completion of a sequence in the game Ie: Hit 5 targets to complete a sequence to get specials alight etc
On Knockout the sequence is the 1-5 bumpers. This awards a knockdown, and resets.
Thanks guys, great stuff as usual. Is it common for so much welding to be on a machine as old as this?
I guess it's not things break and people don't access to parts it's amazing the trouble people go to, I guess you have to do what you have to.
Enjoy your work guys
Thank you.
Great job guys. Very interesting. Thank you.
A lot in this one for sure.
Great work guys…. Because of its age, and the fact that this game had been left in a container for 5 years before I bought it, it was always going to have lots of problems and issues. I appreciate you finding and dealing with things as they come up.
Yes your right the older they are the more problematic they can become.
Fascinating scuff, thanks guys. I recently found a welding job on a machine, they'd welded and threaded a 3 inch nail to repair a broken rod on a bumper ring and rod (it had failed).
Yes it amazing some of the hacks you find on games.
Have y’all done a video on how to properly adjust and gap slingshots and stand up targets to keep them sensitive and not hammering?
No we haven't but shall do that in a mini repair video in the future. Thanks for your suggestion 😊
Unbelievable really !! Love it !!
A wonderful place to visit.
The sales flyer does show a post at the drain ... but not exactly. the one on this beautiful machine.
Yes we looked after Graham mentioned it.
I’ll say Super Thanks, but there’s nothing on my screen like that. … for some context, this machine was left stored in a container for 5 years…It was completely seized, rusty, and it was DOA. … I got it to this point, but the locked on bank coil stopped me…all the colours of the wires are the same!! Initially, I was going to use the original light sockets because they looked so good, and they were clean. …Little did I realise that the rust would come marching back. …This is an issue I’ve got to deal with on all the metal on this game….So, now I’m thinking that changing the light sockets is the simple and logical way to cancel the returning rust in the sockets. … So, please be my guest and change them… I’m going to Re clean the frame metal and give it some clear coat for metal. … Anyway, good luck with it, and thanks for taking it on.
Thanks Mark its going to be a good challenge for Spanky.
He goat guys I really liked the real E M machines over the new ones .
I grew up in the 60s so I do also
Thanks guys very interesting. I've enjoyed playing this game on CD for many years, great to see the real thing.
Should play nicely when we get it running.
Super helpful. Super cool. Super springy. And some philosophy. 😊 Thanks Kim. Wait. You didn't show the fun part when a spring flies across the room and you spend an hour looking for it. 🤡 Spring tension of leaf switches is also important. Sometimes a switch looks closed, but not enough spring tension to let those electrons keep rolling.
I was lucky a spring didn't fly away whilst doing the video Will.
@@goatshedempinballrepair8545 Spanky should be wearing safety goggles. 👓 😎
Thanks for making these videos and sharing your knowledge.
Thanks so glad you find them useful 😊
Can you show how to take a turn out of the spring? Interested in how you would bend it. Thanks. Bob
Hi Bob we illustrated that in a previous video Gottlieb Decagon Score Reel. I was going to do it in this video buy got distracted and forgot.
As always thanks for the info. Bob. 👍
Thanks Bob
i Did a lot of spring loaded cash registers, springs go week ... Great Stuff For all , I just did all Banks of drop Targets Springs all come up every time Now..
I worked in the cash register business for 40 years so did you work in in the industry ?
Working on a bingo, too?I think I hear one in the background, need more bingo repair videos
Yes you do unfortunately they aren't very popular so we won't be making any more Bingo ones at present. That may change however.
A video from the future here on the canadian east coast...thanks so much once again to make them videos ...always so instructive cheers!!
Thanks 😊 glad you found it useful.
Excellent advice as always. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Glad you found it interesting Dave.
