Reverse their position. Tweeter should be on the further out part. And they do sound better with grills on. Least for my space since they were designed that way.
Thanks a ton, this was a life-saver after a wasted afternoon trying to find a solution

Wharfedale says that these are meant to be used with the grilles on for best sound quality but nobody here does sound teast videos with them on.
Thanks for watching. Well wont be much difference vs what speakers actually sound like, especially considering have many gears can affect the sound in many ways :)
@wim1983 Hi! What class d kit is that? I hace these dentons also. Sounds great. Thx
Thanks for watching. It's Class D Audio SDS-470C power amplifier from USA, you can try contact Tom but I'm not sure he still build these kits, I think it's the best amplifier I have tested so far, sound great with the Denton 80th via a Fostex HP-A3 DAC/preamp, the sound signature has an organic quality, forgiving, musical, moderate details, warm but no warm, bright but not bright, just one caveat is it run very hot with the cover on, so I have to put some coins for effective cooling. While it's not the best in scientific measurement, strange that I cannot find anything cheaper that sound better for a wide range of music, other class D I tried are Hypex NCore & Purifi Eigentakt.
@ thanks for the information. I have a Fosi V3 and it's not bad. I just miss warmth or some more organic sound. I have connected a pre from diyaudiostore the ACP+ with mosfets and there is an improvement. perhaps it is not the best pairing with the Fosi. With Akitika's 102 it sounds great. I recommend that preamp if you like soldering and tinkering. I will look into studying this SDS amp
You need carpet or rugs in front of those speakers, would give better sound
@@Music.Movies.67 Thanks for your suggestion.
I guess no r2r would work with Linton as things would become to soft and mellow.
Thanks for watching. Well basically the Denafrips Ares 15th still a good DAC that give a bit of midrange and soundstage quality while still has enough details, just not what I would describe as warm but not warm, bright but not bright, distort but not distort, organic natural curve so to say, more so often I would say sound difference is larger affected by the following gear synergy priority, i.e. amplifier > preamplifier > DAC
So, if it is not working for you change back to what you have had. Is this difficult to imagine. If you spent money on it and it does not work why spend it in the first place or do you want others to confirm that it is actually working to justify your expenditure. You will go round in circles forever if you try and rely on others that never even heard your system or room to be of any consequence. Keep on spending until you learn your lesson and then you may stop thinking that you need to create the best, first define the best and if you cannot, don't even try, you will never succeed. By the way, what I hear from your recording, I could not even listen to that system for the duration of the clip, it just sounds awful hallow and echos. Take a good pair of headphones, something many recommends, not silly esoteric stuff. Plug it into your CD direct if you can, listen to what it should sound like. Then you can go one step further adding a piece of equipment you want between the source and the headphones. If the sound character changes, and not subjectively better, then it is a waste. Keep on changes until you have the sound you want. Only then look at the speakers and environment. You have to start with what is a reference before trying to match it acoustically to the environment. I am advising you of the logical route not the mad spend for more route. I have been in audio design for more than 60 years and was part of the subjectively changing environment since the early 70's. Those days you could put together what was an absolutely incredible system for less that $ 1000. In my opinion your system should be carefully matched with each other, components should not stretch in opposite directions to create the median, they should be designed as the median from the outset. Taking a hard clinical sounding DAC and trying to smooth it over by using warm and fluffy speakers is not a good process at all. The source should be the starting point. Look at specifications that is audible and justifiably so and also have a track record of many reviewers admiring it. Find reviewers you can trust that shares your sound values. Don't change more than one system item at once and always maintain that it is better to your ears than before. Beg, steal and borrow equipment if you can before making a decision to purchase. Interfacing the equipment with the environment is the final step. This is very important, don't place equipment where you need to move it each time you want to listen. Aesthetically pleasing placement it very important because it does impact your listening experience in the same way your equipment should look and feel the part. Having an amp built into a cardboard shoe box is not aesthetically pleasing and even if it is the best designed electronics ever it will not please you or anyone else. Having too many boxes and interconnects all over is neither pleasing nor pratical since you will affect your listening and visual experience all the time, even if hidden away you will constantly think about trying to tidy it up and taping things together and so forth, which just makes it prone to becoming an antenna for spurious noise and interference. Said enough, have fun.
@@nicoras8803 Thanks for watching, yeah bad and good thing happens, well have to understand this is a game, the world is uncertain in many ways, and game of wisdom continued, but yeah I can say a lot of things is being mess up :)

You're welcome
With TUBE Xduoo MT-603 Tube Preamplifier is BETTER. But sound is not good in all....
Thanks for watching and feedback. Hmm I would say the effect actually is not enough to impress me, so far I find that sound has more effect if via an amplifier instead of preamplifier. Nope the sound is good, for such live vocal recording I would say most gears works well, the performance was something I would say one moment in time, will not be heard again.

@@wim1983 Sound good
Sounds a little thin in the mid-range possibly too much reverb.
hmm for great mastering records this speakers midrange still ok, just that I feel the tweeter is not that refined vs Denton 80th for some less than perfect recording perhaps, the bass I can't know yet as it need time to run in, also larger woofers is not easy to control and can cause room resonance, overall I feel larger speakers is not easy to play with or maybe 3 drivers not as coherent as 2 drivers integration.
They sound thin because there is no wall reinforcement. Try putting right next to the front wall and the mid bass and midrange will have depth. It has nothing to do with break in or the fact that its a large woofer or the fact that theyre 3 ways. The measurements show these speakers are properly designed. You just placed them very poorly
@@sergeysmelnik Nope, no matter how I place it, the sound still not to my favor as good as my Denton 80th, nothing to do with measurements.

In corners they sound boomy just like any other speakers.
I would say in low to moderate volume, it still sounded excellent, of course best to have a little sound treatment and with matching gears, this speakers need a lot of clean power.
Hope my vintage Yamaha CR-800 ( 8 Ohm: 2x 55 Watt, 4 Ohm: 2x 70 Watt ) can drive these well as I just ordered them.
hmm I'm not sure, my result with Yamaha A-S701 is sounded thin and lack body, perhaps vintage Yamaha might works better, need powerful amp for this speakers.
Hi, can you compare the sound of mini gan 5 to other class D amps, hypex or purifi based? I was thinking of buying one but I am not sure if it will be better than my micromega pw-400 build on HYPEX UCD400HG modules.
I've owned NAD M22 v2 power amp too, so far it's best in distortion control and definition, but a bit less musical and forgiving if you going to listen a wide range of music, the best smooth musical is the Class D Audio SDS-470C so far, but it has heat issue in Malaysia here, which I solve by removing the cover and put some coins on the heat sink. The GAN mini is not bad, though I think it's a bit more aggressive and fatigue to listen to, most probably it won't bother you if you listen at low to moderate volume, but this amp also has peak power limitation where sound will be shut down when reach certain dynamic, maybe it will be great if to match with warmer and efficient speakers like Tannoy but I'm not sure.
@@wim1983 This Class D Audio SDS-470C sounds promising, I was aiming at ps audio stellar m1200 monoblocks but the pricing of this amps is hi. My micromega is not bad at all and rest of my system is audirvana player, ps audio directstream junior dac, musical fidelity M6SDAC, speakers are tannoys dimension td10, dimension td8, b&w cm9 s2. From my perspective ps audio and tannoys is the way to go, the only thing i miss in micromega is little more exposed bass.
@@azertyazer3513 Aha the SDS-470C is kinda like poor man power amp that works with my Wharfedale Denton 80th, surely there are better amps but I'm not sure how much more I have to pay for many rounds of long term listening trial. Not sure the SDS can be matched well with the Tannoy, my experience is the SDS will just give a bit of color on the midrange perhaps, at times I feel it bring out "tube" vibe to my Wharfedale Denton 80th, but it might not work with certain speakers to produce that vibe too. For the bass, I feel the SDS has just a little bit bass roll off for smoother listening experience comparing to NAD M22 v2 which is a bit more bassy neutral and more details that might irritate some people ears. Also not sure the SDS amp still in production as it's not listed anymore from the Website.
@@wim1983 Can you tell me which one have more bassy character SDS-470C or gan mini ?

Can you compare the sound of Dentons and evo 4.2. I
So far the Denton 80 (not 85th) has better bass tonal balance and elasticity (e.g. like drum music), overall coherence better.
@@wim1983 I've compared 4.2 to my Dentons and would agree with your observations. 4.2 sounded thin and small compared to dentons. Wonder how would 4.2 compare after they break in. Dentons needed a year or so.
@@miharoskar Yeah, I intend to put Evo 4.2 in slightly treated room, and with more transparent amp like NAD power amp master series M22, will see how it sound.

Sounds soothing, lovely choice of music I think.
What color are these? I’m thinking about getting the Dentons but can’t decide between the mahogany and the walnut.
The finish is walnut, I will strongly recommend walnut instead of mahogany finish, which looks a bit red orange to me, I'm looking for darker red mahogany finish but it seem it's not possible, walnut got a golden glow effect that's so amazing to stare at, not a fan of condom looks of most speakers glossy finish nowadays

The Denton is a near perfect speakers to enjoy a wide range of music collection, with pretty affordable price!
I agree about these doing well with high-quality amplification (just like the old Wharfedales). And they have a nice kick to the bass. Not laid-back in that regard, which was exactly the way I wanted).
how do they handle volumes around 100db an up? any strain or compression?
Aleks Apple Yes, certainly this speaker has limitation, you cannot go extreme loud without distortion, but it can go already pretty loud, the thing it achieve is less fatigueness over long listening session, if I going to describe, it relieve you more than a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 122, but does not go as violent as Diamond 122, and the finish and grill definitely one of the best, I simply cannot find another pair bookshelf that can match the outlook!
wim1983 k, thank you for the information, these are looking like a promising purchase for me :)
Aleks Apple Yes, definitely, I like the cabinet build, is the most bookshelf like speakers in the market, with pretty affordable price, I'm lucky to have one of 2000 limited edition in walnut color, the grill and the shining "W" icon so handsome! And I can imagine you can spend some good time to wait the speaker fully break in!
yeah, lol it'll probably be either these or the definitive technology sm55 for me then
wim1983 and i agree on the finish, it's beautiful!
latache1966 you are warned, the bass is jawdropping, still I just drive it with Marantz PM6005 hehe
nocturnal1970 I planning to sell off my Marantz PM6005, to get power amplifier, they sound fabulous with state of the art recording :)
+wim1983 Ok, are you saying they don't sound good with that Marantz. I have this amp and love it. Would you say they are better than the 10.2's?
+Paul Horn It will sound good and fine with Marantz PM6005, but this amp is not great enough, a bit rolled off and capped, not that kind of full blown and clean amplifications, I got a Class D Audio SDS-400C power amp, a great and transparent, still the Denton not necessary sound better than Diamond 10.2, it sound less fatigue and less forward, 10.2 of course is for bigger room, not recommended for small room. The Denton weaknesses lie in dynamic limitation, a bit rock n roll color as you expect it's vintage redesign, I'll use it as a decent secondary bedroom system though, note that both of the speakers are rear ported, I do find that it's not as easy to place as Diamond 9 series, that series can be the last you need to hunt for...
Sound great. I have a pair with an Arcam A18 amplifier but feel I could benefit from something more aplomb to drive these beauties. They can hold their own with expensive valve etc. amplification.
