"Why Route The Master Bus To A Fader On The TASCAM Model 24?"
This video explains why I like to route the master bus from the DAW to one of the faders on the Model 24. I hope it's helpful.

I hope you find this video helpful if you've been having difficulty using your tascam model 24 as an interface
I really enjoyed this video. This guy is really real, down to earth, and honest. Great video! Also I really learned something. Keep up the good work!
You should put out an album, your tunes are killer.
Another absolute gem!
Really cool tune 🤘
Looks cool! Here in Canada they are just over $3000... but.... I can see one in my future. Love your music.
I hope the future comes soon for you. These things are very useful for a good workflow in the DAW. If you have any questions about it when you finally get one, let me know. Also thanks for listening to the music!
@@lonesomeharmonic Thanks! WIll buy whatever albums you release. Really dig your stuff.
Do you know if you can do the same with the DP24, ie using it as a DAW controller / interface?
@CarloRegadasGuitar i don't think it's possible to do that. From what i've experienced with the DP 32 is that the USB out is only for file transfer.

Got this song on repeat, I like hearing calming music like this 🔥
Thank you for listening. Your comment motivates me to keep doing it.
Model 2400 in action. ruclips.net/video/l8FH93DbG4o/видео.htmlfeature=shared
bro that mf is masive !! looks vey complicated but man looks like will do the job too
Yes quite a bit heavier than the Model 24 as well
man, this is good music. keep it going
Thank you! That really means a lot man! I'll keep doing it
Thank you for showing us some of the features of the unit . I do have a question which is can you have the display go up onto a monitor so you can have a bigger work area? It would be great to see all 24 tracks simultaneously. And if you can wow they really update the unit. I really sense already that this task count 2400 is a winner. It would be nice not to have to Use protools. We're mostly using this live. And thank you for sharing FIXX
Can you unbox the answer as to why this unit isn't even available anywhere for purchase? Maybe your funny hat helped you buy one, I dunno.
I didn't know they weren't available in stores yet. I ordered mine from Sweetwater. The nice man from Sweetwater may or may not have known that I was wearing the hat at the time. When I made the phone call he said they didn't have them yet but that they would within days and it would ship immediately. That's how I got mine so quickly. Thanks for commenting! 🖖
@@lonesomeharmonic Have you ever had that experience where the car in front of you takes its sweet time going through the traffic light, even as it's about to turn red; because they know they're gonna make it through fine? And you know they didn't give a damn about the car behind them. Yeah. That feeling. That's how I feel about the Tascam Model 2400 vis-a-vis all the online reviews by all those who ALREADY HAVE ONE, and most of those guys were sent one for review anyhow. All of the commentary surrounds the unit, but nobody makes any commentary about how it is maddeningly out of stock at all the usual retailers. And though the total lack of inventory is not an aspect of the unit per se, it might as well be... for what's the difference between unit that doesn't work, and a unit that you can't even possess? Oh well... who gives a sh*t, when you've already made it through the light. Sucks to be me. And I have to say... it's making me hate Tascam.
@@vandytalk Damn I hope you get one soon. I think I got lucky. I'm not the brightest blip on the radar and live a little under a rock you could say. Also I'm still confused about how to use certain features on this thing. They don't send a hard copy user manual with the unit. My gratification is delayed.
Just learning the Model 24 -- your videos are great, and the music is good too, thanks!
@PaulWalker-lk3gi Thank you for commenting! If you have any questions about the Model 24 I'd be happy to try to help.
@@lonesomeharmonic Something you may be able to point me in the direction of is a video or info about overdubbing. After doing my initial recording I want to be able to do overdubs (both replacing existing tracks with better takes, and adding additional tracks). Do you have a video on this?
@@PaulWalker-lk3gi Let me look into it. I don't multitrack on the Model 24 itself. I only use it as an interface. I remember attempting to multitrack when I first got it but did didn't find it to be very user friendly. Difficult workflow. I think the Tascam Dp32-SD works much better for that.
Great video. I just purchase the same mixer for Sweetwater and then come with the manual. Sweetwater did send me the link to download the manual but you have to call tascam1-800 number and tell them that it didn't come in a manual and it takes about 2 weeks what the lady told me and you have to have a picture of your serial number of the model that you have email it to them. So hopefully I'll have me a book in 2 weeks
I need one of those. Let's see... where would I find the correct 1-800 number...
This is all way too weird for me.....see ya.
I heard that NASA is going to make a limited run of rca to quarter inch adapters next year.

@@levelletate4551 Where? Like on the main output? I didn't notice that yet. I'm going to take a closer look when I get around the machine.
Fuck yeah! Thx
Thanks for this! Question: Do you know what the Midi In is used for / capable of? I see people on forums saying it cannot be set as midi slave (Which seems to make sense) but it leaves me wondering what the Midi input is used for then..
@lochlandoyle8158 I'm not sure what the midi is for yet. I've never used anything midi. I'll look into it eventually though maybe I can expand my horizons.
@@lonesomeharmonic right on. I already bought mine, bummed once I heard you say you might sell as I would have bought from you
I’m still waiting for mine from Andertons in the UK
RCA is not a professional contractor and that is why they changed it. A y cable from Amazon is nothing compared to the price of the 2400
Any luck yet getting the 2400 connected to your computer via usb?
@@MarcChevalier I haven't been able to yet. I can't find where to download the Model Mixer Settings Panel application yet.
@@lonesomeharmonic I would contact your Sweetwater sales rep and tell them what's going on. I think maybe Tascam hasn't realized the software isn't uploaded to their site.
ood night- that is professional ~Lonesome. 🌟
@eprohoda I wish haha. Thanks for commenting and watching
U have the model 24 right? Did u ever install the newest firmware and set it up with your pc? Its the same process
@danap8044 Yes, I have the newest firmware installed on the Model 24. I haven't tried to update the firmware on the Model 2400 yet. Maybe if I did it would work with the existing game model mixer settings panel application that I already have installed on my pc. But still, I don't know where to find the download for that thing either way. I remember having trouble finding it when I first it started using the Model 24. This video is disgraceful. Do you think I should still leave it up? Maybe I'll make a tightly edited version of it. It might be good for laughs.
Playback functions as an interface is sooooo annoying with this !!!!!!! Thanks for your help .
@@katiepower1570 You mean how there isn't a dedicated channel for it?
Yes, it confused me a lot . Recorded audio in a movie studio for music performance and we couldn’t get playback going.. haha! All experience but I seemed to get it today after watching your videos on this… I routed to stereo fader like you said.
Yes I wish there was a dedicated fader fader…. im not great at figuring tech stuff out like this so I definitely need more hours sitting down with the mixer as an audio engineer. Nearly got fired today!
@katiepower1570 I can do a live video to help and answer questions if you'd like. Would that be helpful?
Yes it would be helpful
Was this recorded and mixed on the Model 24? Great track, either way.
@MarcChevalier I mix and master in the DAW (Reaper). Stock plug-ins. I just use the Model 24 as an interface for it's 16 channel capability. It achieves a nice workflow. Thanks for commenting!
@@lonesomeharmonicCool. The track reminds me of some of the Minty Fresh bands in the late 90s/early aughts, like Stereolab, Aluminum Group, The High Llamas, etc (not to mention the 60s bands who influenced them)
@MarcChevalier Thank you man! This is motivating. I ought to make songs more often.
Great songs great mixing really talented sound engineer !
How is this being monitored? Left and right mains? Monitors? Is it easy to do so with the DAW while recording with tascam as an interface?
@katiepower1570 I can monitor through the stereo control room output as well as the stereo main output using one of the stereo faders on the Model 24. The control room output goes to a monitor station where it splits off to headphones, as well as desk monitors. The main outputs go to my PA speakers.
@@lonesomeharmonic Thankyou, great advice.
I have to use this in a job tomorrow. I have to connect it to my Mac book as an interface for pro tools DAW. And have it go out through the monitors. Can you not use it as an interface like that? Why would you have to route it back to the tascam just to do that? Any other interface you just select it as the playback engine and go output left and right for the output going to monitors from DAW…… never used this before nervous now.
I've never been able to route my DAW's master bus through the Model 24 master fader. I don't know if it's possible. And if it were, it still wouldn't go to the control room. But assigning the master bus to a stereo gets it to both control room and master fader. I think it may be possible to also route it to the bluetooth channel but I've never tried because I like separate volume from what's coming from my desktop audio. But maybe try the bluetooth channel for what you're doing. I hope this helps 🙏
I wish they could have made a dedicated stereo channel for the DAW's master bus
@@lonesomeharmonicyes I’m here now I’m a studio that used this for film and I honestly can’t get it to play back recorded audio although it does show in pro tools and the levels. I will try do a stereo like you said.
@@lonesomeharmonicI made the master fader output into channel 19/20 still no playing back .
Could you not just go to your play back engine and select output left and right for it to go to your mains?
That's what I would have liked to do from the beginning but couldn't figure out how. Routing the DAW's master bus to a stereo fader is the only thing that I've found that allows me to monitor through the control room and mains at the same time. I wish they made it with a dedicated fader 😢
@@lonesomeharmonic As someone who has mostly worked and routed in software and used less hardware especially consoles, I wish they also did that too. The tascam is digital and analogue so it can actually be difficult to learn the rules of the console. Hope I can also make a video on this console too after I get some use out of it in the studio I will be using it in. Thanks again for the videos and advice. Going to watch your video on the stereo faders now thankyou.
David Byrne?
Very clear and thorough! I really appreciate this response, question answered. Sounding great as well. Still haven't purchased yet as I'm saving up but since I had left my comment I came to realize how it makes sense. I'll likely use 21/22 for this purpose as I don't need bluetooth. Also I heard that tascam will be coming out with a model '2400' in the next month or so which will include 5 total aux sends, 4 stereo sub outputs, as well as MIDI I/O so I think I'll wait on that. You may also be interested to know it will have its own click track. This thing is what ive always dreamed of lol.
❤❤❤❤
How I Love... this song. Those Drums... And the Bass... Wow. Its a good thing I have these headphones. This song is like an Auditory Orgasm.
Has the Tascam been stable for you, like how's the build quality? and how do you like the preamps? Cool vid. I have an opportunity to buy a brand new one in the box for $799 but would only be using it as an audio interface like you did in this vid. So I'm wondering if it's worth it and i guess that could down to reliability, build quality and preamp flava.
That's a great question. An issue that I've had with mine is that one of the mute buttons seems to stick sometimes ( The bluetooth channel one). I only use the fader on that channel now because I don't want it to be stuck in mute position. I now keep the thing covered when not in use to protect from dust ( A tie dye shirt that I never wear because it's two sizes too big). I've also heard people comment about the quality of the faders not being the best so i'm always very gentle with them. As far as preamps, I wouldn't know what to compare them with because i've never owned (or tried) very many different ones. But for what i'm doing, they get the job done ( I am not a very picky guy). I'm grateful to have such a machine that has streamlined my workflow so that I can focus more on my creativity. If it ever breaks, I'll probably just buy another one because I don't want to sacrifice more time in learning another different piece of gear at the expense of my musical creativity( Unless it becomes absolutely necessary to do so) $799 is a great price though! If I could find another one for that price I would probably snag it up for myself as a backup for future. 🖖
Can i connect this to my focusrite Scarlett 8pre?
You should be able to. On mine I run out of the 1/4' stereo Sub Output into a two channel interface (Behringer UMC202HD). How are you planning on connecting yours? Would it be 1/4' stereo? Or some other way?
Sorry, another question: Why are you routing your master track in reaper back into the model 24? If you're on PC mode on the individual tracks on the tascam, and their corresponding reaper track outputs are sent back to same corresponding tascam tracks, shouldnt that mean the tascam sends whats coming from reaper into its own master fader?
I'll have to make a video for that. It's hard to explain the reasons without showing. I used to do it that way but this way works better for my uses. I'm just wondering if I should pre-record the video or live stream it... what do you think? Maybe we could figure out a time that you could tune in and can show you. In the meantime I'll see if I can pre-record one... I'm just stumped on what the "Title" of the video would be.
@@lonesomeharmonic Ok wow thanks so much. Yeah I could potentially understand why, you certainly aren't the only one using that technique from what i've seen in other videos. For me I would just ideally keep all my other tracks free for other instruments. It was jsut this video that made me realize that ideally my process would be : record to DAW while all tracks are on PC mode, with all the daw tracks running back to their corresponding channels on the tascam, so when I play back through the daw its running through the tascam master so once I'm happy I just record the tascam master track to DAW and done. This video seemed to tell me that its possible. ruclips.net/video/8HuSXpPCNuc/видео.html&ab_channel=StefanRinger Anyways I would certainly tune if you let me know when you'd stream! I'm Eastern Daylight Time. Thanks for all the help!!
Yooo! @lochlandoyle8158 I'm about to upload a video to answer your question about routing the master track to a fader. I hope it's helpful!
@@lonesomeharmonic You rock man. Much appreciated. Left a comment on the video
When you turn on your model 24 does it automatically load up the last project of the SD card? Or do you need to create a new one every time? I ask because if I'm always using the same sample rate and bit depth its kind of annoying to have to create a project every time if all im doing is recording to DAW and not the SD card. Thanks for this
Yes when you turn on the Model 24 the project that was last in use will automatically open. If you're keeping the same sample rate and bit depth in your DAW then you can keep using the same project file on the Model 24 over and over again.
Im on a break from messing about with my tascam dp 24 sd..got it sussed....thinking of upgrading to the tascam model 24...so i can have control in cubase..protools etc.....and make say dub music....is this possible...... i also got a smoke on the go...bit of bud in the mix..but..... whats ya honest opinion...should i get the tascam model 24....or a mackie profx or something else.. any ideas people
Yooo! The Model 24 works great for me and for what I need. Basically just a 16 channel interface. I love it. I'm not sure what features you'd need for dub music. The Model 24 won't allow you to mix in the DAW with the faders if that's what your looking for. Also, I'm not familiar with other similar units like the Mackie. But so far I haven't been disappointed with the Model 24. I'm a simple guy. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to offer what help I can...🖖
Just to be sure, does this allow you to eq the sound and adjust the level of the track with the fader before it goes in too the DAW, or does it not take the fader into consideration at all but it allows you to record at normal input gain and compress and EQ the sound before it goes to the computer? And then agaian if that is the case why have the out from the track in the DAW go back to the same channel if the fader only doubles the sound and you still get it straight to the master from the daw, i feel like you canot mix live with the faders then you have to adjust all levels in the daw.
That is true. It's not possible to mix with the faders on the Model 24 within the DAW. And yes it also bypasses the compression and EQ. It doesn't bother me too much because I'm more interested in using it just as a 16 channel interface to the DAW. Also, the use for routing the DAW tracks back though the faders that I've found is mainly for when tracking Vocals, Bass or Guitars, to be able to hear better while recording without having to change the mix with the DAW faders. If you have any more questions let me know, I happy to do my best to answer them. 🖖
Thanks for your support! Joe from TASCAM!
I'm super happy to do so. I love TASCAM! Thanks for commenting! 🖖
Hey there. Got any idea why OBS doesn't get any signal from my Microphone? I get sound from Channel 1 and 2 (as for the background instrumentals, both set on PC mode) but my MIC is on Channel 3 (Live Mode, cant hear it if its in PC mode) and it just won't get the signal to OBS despite me selecting it right in the source. Do you know what I can do? (I have TASCAM Model 16)
I'm not sure the of the ways that the Model 16 differs from the 24 but let's troubleshoot... First since 1&2 seem to work, have you tried using the Mic on one of them?
Wait I think I may have realized the answer. OBS will only take a stereo input signal. Therefore, the only way to get all of your faders to OBS is to use a separate interface (a 2-channel interface with 1/4" inputs would be ideal). It's also how I do it. Use 1/4" stereo cables to run from the sub output (on the Model 16) into the 2-channel interface. Then use that new interface as your audio input source within OBS (provided you have a spare USB input on your computer). If you don't have an extra input you'll also need a USB hub. Let me know if this helps...🖖
@@lonesomeharmonic What seemed to fix part of the issue (surprisingly) was an ASIO Plug In for OBS. I am not good at explaining tech, but seems like this DAW technology id in desperate need of this Asio driver that will 'translate' the sound to the program. Now both instrumentals and my Mic works (I set it on channel 3, to leave 1&2 just for the outputs). But now I am facing one more issue: no matter how hard I try, it won't recognize the FX I add on the vocals. Fx are on and set correctly, turned on just for channel 3 from that bottom knob, but OBS only hears the regular MIC as if the FX is just not there. *sigh* Sometimes I wonder why did I get such a complicated tool I am such a noob at this. 😭😅 At least I found the solution with the asio plug in. If you got any input for my FX problem, I'd love to hear it too ❤️😳
In order to hear my daw playback with the hardware outputs, do I utilize the “phones” output?
Yo! Thanks for commenting. You'll be able to hear the hardware output playback through the phones as well as the control room output. (I checked last night to confirm for you) Maybe through the AUX outputs too but I'll confirm that also (when I get to my desk tonight) and let you know. If you have any more questions about this thing, I'm happy to help... Happy recording... 🖖

Is it worth buying this thing if I just use it as an interface? Or are there better sounding alternatives in this price range and for this approach? Asking for a friend. He's lost in the gear jungle.
That's a good question. Being kind of a beginner, I'm not too sure how the sound compares to others. This is the only multi-channel interface I've ever owned. If price is the issue along with not needing the extra features that this thing has, you may want to go with a straight interface. What other brands are you considering?
The problem is that I can't find a USB interface with that many channels without using ADAT. Which I don't want either. And I like the idea of being able to use it as a surface DAW controller. The price is not a problem, but if I end up just using the gain control, then it's a bit of a waste of space. My other choices are the Mackie Onyx or the Zoom L-20, and I'm leaning towards the L-20. I've heard the Model 24 preamps sound good, but the knobs and faders aren't that nice. One guy said the L-20 sounds harsher than the 24 but the faders are better. I'm overwhelmed. Actually, I just want to record live via the mixer into the laptop and then mix in the DAW (maybe via the mixer as well). I don't really need an internal recorder. Or do I?! The Model 24 appeals to me the most visually. I was about to buy it because of that. Which is super professional, of course…
