Setting up the Messerschmitt bf 109 fuselage jig. 2/2
Просмотров 4,6 тыс.4 года назад
We need to build a 109 fuselage, so we'll need the jig back from storage. The second video of reinstating the 109 fuselage jig for use. The jig employs blocks, that are also used to form four of the skins, as holding fixtures whilst the three intermediate skins are fabricated and fitted between them. After mounting them they are then trued up (made vertical) and aligned with each other with the...

Stripping the static Supermarine Spitfire (Part 1)
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 года назад
After the final assembly photo-shoot, the static Spitfire needed to be dis-assembled ready for shipping to the customer. This is an extremely accurate replica containing original parts, it has been painted in this colour scheme to represent one of over a thousand that were sent to Russia during the war. Here is part one of a small series, starting with the removal of the 'spinner', wing tips, u...

Smoke rings from an aircraft part.

Using a blowtorch to fire smoke rings out of a landing gear strut. This part was destined for a static display Spitfire replica, therefore the possibility of damaging the part was not an issue.

Really great video and very skilled work. At 01:33 you can just see the text 2014A-O printed on the sheet, so @edstoro3883 is right that it's annealed. It did go over the former very easily! I'd like to see part 2 to show what heat treatment it goes through for the final temper. It would have to be solution treated to make T42, but I wonder if they'd take it to T62? After the effort the tradesman went to flatten it out after knocking over the first edge, I'd hate to see how much distortion it would have after quenching. It would certainly be a challenge to flatten it out again! The formers look like they're made of Tufnol which is resin bonded fibre board. It's very nice to work with and can take a lot of punishment. Very dusty though and the smell always gives me an instant headache!!
Nice but where is this?
This is in the UK on the Isle of Wight :)
Very good but where is this?
❣❣💟💟💘💘
Avec gabarit tellement facile !
Can I get one cheers ✌
Forming block still being used today in modern Aircraft facilities great video cheers ✌
Who's the weirdo with blonde ponytail? Looks like a warhammer geek 🤓
I wanna join!
Be interested to see more shots of the templates if possible
Oooooooo
Looks very inefficient.
Which company is doing that replica
Are those form blocks off a stretch press set up? You can see similar blocks being used in the video of the making of the BF 108 on RUclips. The aluminium is shown heat treated coming out of the oven then stretch pressed. Then the joggles/flanges manually chased in and then the sections are strapped over formers for final drilling off and assembly. I'm sure the 109 was made the same way
It seems very soft, Annealed? Does it need to be heat treated after?
At which moment they fight?
Amazing that you can both lighten and and strengthen in the same process.
Very informative.
What are the purple rivets, magnesium? Or just anodize colour?
Thank you for this. I had read of the special construction of the Spitfire's spar, but it is nice to actually see it. It gives an even better idea of the complexity.
What seeds are those?
Great work, done with precision and old school technique. Loved it
This is bloody difficult. #2 maybe awhile!
I know AA do fantastic work in their restorations but I have to ask. How much of EN570 featured in this video is original from the Supermarine/Vickers WW2 factory EN570? I understand the need to replace the powdering magnesium rivets, but the rest? Is it giving original small fittings and manufacturer's plates a new home on new skins and frames? Its like asking how much of Spitfire G-ASJV is factory original after over 70 years of operation.
This is an age-old question! We do the very best we can with what is un-earthed / supplied, as for en570, there wasn't much left after all those years: images.app.goo.gl/8DBLKPVCRmBWdgoX6 Many thanks for the comment!
Lovely work. I liked the use of the washer to mark out the flange - I'll remember that one!
No kidding that was the coolest trick!
Your hair doesn’t need protection, but your eyes do! You can make parts when you’re bald, but not when you’re blind...
An almost fantastic video, but you missed some very important stuff to achieve that classification. What was the aluminum? 2024, 6061, ? what was the thickness? what was the temper? "0" and heat treat? I really liked the sped up part, showing how many attempts were needed to flatten the piece. Do more, and give the nerdy info.
Hi, is there anyway I can get a hold of you re this rebuild of the Spitfire please?
Good evening! You can contact me via this email - slacks.shack42@gmail.com Kind regards.
question: why not laser cutting? ( and then e few more...)
Superb craftsmanship
Love the workmanship- did every spitfire part have that kind of complexity of manufacture? If so, no wonder it was so hard to mass produce!
all i see is a brainwashed fool wearing a useless piece of paper on his face because he is scared of catching a delusion.
Sublime.
Am building statick model, have frames 11,12,13,14 made. very similar way of construction. Exited
Are you from air leasing ltd.?
We aren't, we are Airframe assemblies! :)
Nice video, some fantastic detail. IOW at its best.
Ps - how in the world do you ship such a part to a customer without it getting damaged?
Such amazing work - and so cool to see the old tools and techniques still being used by our friends and allies across the pond!
When's it due to be fitted out with the instruments and pipework etc?
Once it reaches its destination, the customer will begin the remaining work!
It is not often when the general public is shown such detail during the restoration/fabrication of a spitfire. Just the detailed technical view of the interior frames, mated with great cinematography puts your film efforts at a level of documentary excellence. Some things you might want to consider for future topics that are frankly - not shown anywhere: 1. Close-in wing mating (pinning) to fuselage (with wing root fillet skin install!) 2. Exploration of the modular seat during installation (with quick release and seat raising/lowering functions shown) 3. Details of the control stick mechanisms (How the sprockets and chain/lead activate ailerons and how the full control is installed into the cockpit) 4. Bolting of the tail to the fuselage 5. Routing and installation of a random cockpit hydraulic tube - with the focus on technique/craftsmanship. 6. In depth detail on installing radio trays/primary aerial/antenna into the fuselage 7. A complete buildup of a main bulkhead (Frame 5 preferably) 8. A detailed and very rare glimpse of the Merlin/Griffon under slung oil tank (always glossed over) 9. Installation and function of the signalling light under the cockpit. All of these details may seem mundane, but they are rarely touched on but are fascinating.
I absolutely love these spitfire videos! Love this content
Thank you for your comment! The boss has asked me to make one of the fin unit!
may i ask you where you got all the plans from? i know it sounds weird but i would like to build a warbird by my own...
Would the person with the camera stand still !!!!!!!!!!
Let us know if anybody tries to build us some new Spitfires. If the price is right on eBay I might buy one... ;-)
I know this is a silly question and I know its one of those 'if you have to ask you cant afford it' things but what would this thing cost?
Good afternoon! This static spitfire cost around £800,000.... Still cheaper than a real one :)
Jesus ! ... that is awesome to what's going on. History in the re-making !! Do you work with ARC in Duxford or are they a competitor ??
I regrettably added another view to this. What a pointless and stupid music video.
Good for you! Keep up the good work.
Super super video. It shows so well what went into every aircraft and a Spitfire must be the hardest of them all. Take care. Am I right in that the metal gets treated later to stiffen it up?
Absolutely fascinating many thanks for posting.
Never seen that for a bf109. Thank you very much
