I super appreciate the people who make these DIY videos🙏 I just had to replace both of my headlights. It was getting to the point that I could no longer drive it at night, safely. I was originally quoted $600; ($240 ea + $120 labor). I decided to check out a DIY for replacing them and realized that I could do it myself. I also got 2 brand new headlights for $92 + $14 (s/h). Total was $106.00. I put them in and they're perfect!!! Took me almost 1 1/2hrs and I saved $494 doing it myself. VERY NICE👍 I do have to apologize...it never even occurred to me to record the entire job. I'ma idiot🙄 There's no DIY for fixing stupid🤣🤣
That loud noise , something is NOT right. That loud noise is irritating. BAD Install. You teaching people this crap. You want this loud irritating noise on your car go ahead and listen to this guy.
On October 2022, I went ahead and did this mod with a Spectre #8131 filter. I followed your directions up to the cutting. However at 4:27, I did it slightly different. The inside of the adapter has an "indention" to which you can put over the MAFS tube on one of the flanges seen at 4:47. This prevents any sliding and offers a tighter seal around the plastic tube. Unfortunately the rubber boot tore on mine so I used one from a 2008 Focus (including the vacuum & PCV hoses). As of lately, I range between 38 and 33 miles per gallon with this CAI set up and the 08 Focus tubing.
I put my intake into my 07 focus and the intake is facing towards the ground because the intake is so large, I took it for a spin after and for some reason the throttle or somethung got stuck at 4K rpm’s and just revved I had to shut my car off in the middle of the road, any help?
Thats because the MAF is throwing off the air fuel mixture. I did this to mine and didn’t realize what he said about the position of the MAF and direction
"Backyard" mechanics are the very BEST!!! My dad showed me everything I know about car's and being a "fixer" of just about EVERYTHING. He also told me that I should always have a good doctor, attorney, and a mechanic. Even though at different times in my life I may have changed those 3 up, he was absolutely right👍
I literally had to have my car towed. it wouldnt go over 3k rpm so I couldnt accelerate to speed. It would just act like its not getting fuel. i have filter on the bend part and not on the straight part. Thanks for telling me. just saved a lot of money on repairs
No. Seriously. Either buy the mod or make one (shorty or long tube). You DO NOT want to replace the air box. There is no "opening" the OEM air box. I have seen ONE guy open that box. It is factory sealed. Inside is 5 or 6 layers of foam -- like seat foam -- that make up the "air filter". Dorman makes a modded box that uses a paper element, but you still have to take the wheel off and peel back the fender well when it needs to be replaced. I'm planning on doing a shorty mod to mine, but I'm going to build a shield for mine to get more undercar air into it.
thanks for the video. i did exactly has you had shown. except that the plastic tray was not cut. i just broke the plastic welds with a screw driver and therefore it is larger. the install was easy but the plastic inner fender screws will break, so anyone doing this should have some spare plastic screws. the spectra filter 8136 was only 42$ with delivery. i have a scan tool that will show the intake temperature, although i didn't take a reading before with the stock intake. the stock intake was badly clogged so i expect there to be a big improvement in fuel economy. i'll report the results in a few days after testing. thanks for your video.
after a few days of use and with my autotool providing the data i have found that the intake temperatures fluctuate widely. at hwy speeds there is about a 5 -10 degree F increase in temp from ambient outside temp. once the car is at a stop light or in city traffic the difference is much higher. this is in a northern winter climate at this time. induction noise is much higher. at idle it is easily noticeable. at steady state hwy there is no difference since the induction noise is drowned out by regular wind noise. at full throttle at any speed the sound is quite loud. i suspect that there is much less induction resistance to intake airflow and this easier breathing will translate to better fuel economy. i'll report my mileage in a few weeks.
after a month, i find that i have on average 30mpg (imperial gallons) city and 42 mpg hwy (70mph). no engine check lights. however the loose filter does rattle at idle, which was fixed by putting a foam rubber pad on the plastic tray that is bellow the filter. overall i'm pleased with the result and it was an easy install. i recommend this mod...so far.
@@abcentcobblepot5995 ...should have done so long ago. the stock filters are a garbage design with garbage performance. 200 to a tank! something is wrong with your car.

Part# SK258519 I will be installing box filter 2004 ford focus zts 2.3 engine. Rockauto sells skp and dorman air filter box. Skp much cheaper than the dorman and do the same job. I like cleaning my engine with water and chemical and afterwards I used my leaf blower and air dry my engine. Boss man nice tip on your video but I like cleaning my engine.
oh yeah, i got a resonator+ muffler delete on mine and it sounds like one of those civics ripping through the street at 2 am but not as obnoxious, pretty pleasant sound if you actually like hearing sound
@@Kyrbz Thanks, I didn't see it in the video, but after you cut the mass air flow sensor, did you need an adapter to make it fit back on? Like what size of pipe / tude is it?
I just got a 2007 ford focus se with 80K , would it be better with low mileage ? & how long did the hissing sound go on for ?

very thorough, in layman's terms, well-illustrated, easy to follow.
How did you deal with the maf
You just cut part of the stock tube off . If you have a 2001-2007 you have to filp the tube
What a nightmare!!

I bought an FSWERKS cold air and it came with all hardware aswell as being placed away from the engine bay
What's the model for 2007 Ford focus 2007 2.0
I’d have edited the sound out at the end
The whole point was to show people what it sounds like.
I’m lost.😭
Nice video. What about the MAF sensor tube? Was that already on or Is it aftermarket? Thanks
Yes it's the tube he took off after that box on the top
Thank you for sharing!
No reason mod.I ve already try it,but i dont see any difference.Only in the sound....
Perhaps the best of the focus "cold air" videos. Most others just say Buy A Part without telling you what to look for in it. Thorough, thought out.

Put k&n kit on my car it’s ran like trash ever since
Who in their right mind would let a filter go unchanged for 150K!
Ford buyers that are Told the car has a lifetime air filter. A friend is having issues, his gauge is in the green, but I question the accuracy of it.
My 2007 has 167k on it still original filter, but .ight need new filter
It's a stock liquid air filter, it lasts forever. The part he took off the top is the filter, the rest is the air intake
Christ on a bike, those pulleys are literally screaming for attention! 🤣🤣🤣
Yo, l got that kit from fS WERKS, YOUR DOING IT ALL WRONG!!!
Do you have part # for the air filter

I just did this and I knew someone else had the same idea I did. the stock airbox is an absolute piece of crap and super restrictive
Sounds like it would have been better to open the old unit and find a new filter element to replace the "permanent" one ...

Why filter housing need to be replaced? That is not replacement part and Ford don't have that in service manual. You just want to have sport filter.

For how small this car is, it sure makes a lot of noise
"When you start it, it will hiss." *starts car* Car: "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!"
That noise can’t be from just changing the filter!
I am wondering whether this modification will cause any issues in the northern area climate in winter.
