Hey guys, today we will be looking at swapping the bulb out in the BenQ 5J.J2605.001 Lamp and Housing. These housings are kind of a pain to open up and I thought a video with some tips and tricks could help. These lamps are also very similar to the 5J.J4D05.001 and should disassemble in the same way. Great video mate. I've got an OPTOMA X312 PROJECTOR and it never had filters nor a trap door for filtration is it OK to use filter materials to install on the inside where the vents are? What would you do im new to Projectors i wasted money on amazon buying a £400 full HD slash 4k led unit and it turned out to be absolutely pants 👎 so I was given a sealed in the box 2016 X312 from my sister its apparently crap as its 3200 ANSI lumens someone at work said but imo its great with the 3d glasses Hdmi etc sorry I'm yapping on lol im curious if thin filter foam on the side where no bulb is if it could help. Your right also about the fans last week I turned it on didn't notice the lack of fan noise and a notice appeared saying its not working and switched off upon opening it the fan had some dust build up stopping the fan rotating after a month of use snowshoe much they attract dust. Thank you brother for your content. 😎👍 please nothing better than haan entire wall to watch South Park at night in glorious HD or the football ⚽️ and rugby 🏉 imo pisses all over any HD TV I ever had.
I would not stick a filter in there, there is the potential for it to get sucked into the fans and cause more issues because there is no good way to secure it. The best thing to do would be regular cleanings every year or so!
@jaspertronics Thank you so much i can't Thank you enough for your advice.
Simple enough, but may I ask why did you change out the bulb in the first place?
The old bulb had gone out, that is really the only reason to change out a bulb is when the old bulb fails or gets over hours. Lamps will dim to a certain degree when in long term usage and sometimes the dimness can be annoying, that would be another reason to change out the lamp.
Thanks and keep'em comin
I have another big video planned for these 4k Sony units, thank you for your support!
Do you have any videos on replacing tthe lamp on this projector? I am getting a replace lamp warning when i turn it on just wondering if i should replace the lamp with the bousing or just replace the bulb
HI, I would replace the full lamp and housing on this, you can find the replacement instructions on page 118: bizpartner.panasonic.net/public/system/files/files/fields/field_file/psd/2022/07/21/vz580_manual_en_1658441929.6982.pdf Here is a link to the lamp: www.jaspertronics.com/products/pt-vz580-lamp
@@jaspertronics I noticed that some places were selling the lamp cheaper, does the link you have sent have the housing and the bulb?
@@jpmcfeely We have the best prices on the original bulb for these units. The link sent is the housing and bulb, what were you looking at? There is a good chance you are looking at an aftermarket bulb.
Thank you for this! My cinema 1060 started to get a blurry image no matter how I adjust the lens focus. Would you be able to show how to adjust/replace the lens on this unit? I'm way past warranty with no place nearby that can fix it, and want to see if I can fix this on my own
Hello, there are a number of things that can cause the image to lack in clarity. One of these things is the lamp, when was the last time your changed the lamp? Replacing the lens on these can be a very advanced repair and requires you to tear down the light engine itself.
On my Epson 1060 The front fan that pushes out heat is not turning NMB 06035GS-13M-EU DC13V 0.43A I ordered one on eBay. Hopefully it was just the fan not the board
With any luck, it is just the fan. Let us know how the repair goes!
My bulb exploded and some of the shrapnel is in the lenses where the bulb reflects into. Is that bad?
That is no good, can you send me an image of this so I can take a closer look? You can send the image to dalton.ikenberry@jaspertronics.com
How come the projector still show a message about the lamp is due to be changed and the orange light still blink even after changing the lamp?
You likely need to go in and reset the lamp timer on your unit to get this to stop. You can find instructions here: www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_8398.pdf The information starts on page 123.
Thanks, we had to change the bulb on the fly in the middle of a library event. You are our hero!
Glad I could help!
OK, but you should be showing how to clean the unit when changing the light
You can't really clean this unit out without a technician or knowledge of how to tear down the unit. You can try and vacuum behind the filter and inside the lamp compartment but this really will not do much. I do not recommend using air duster unless the unit is fully torn down. You run the risk of blowing the dust further into the unit. If your unit is starting to build up with dust inside we can help with our projector cleaning service. Feel free to reach out for more information!
Hi should I use external fan to cool projectors.bulb inside
Good question! An external fan will not do much to help. The best thing that you can do is make sure the fans that are part of the cooling system are well cleaned and maintained. If you are having issues with your unit, we also offer projector repair services!
Thanks for the tutorial. Ordered a light from you on eBay and works great.
If you have any issues at all feel free to email me direct at dalton.ikenberry@jaspertronics.com, thank you again!
I was all nervous about this process and it's literally nothing. Thanks
Not a problem, did you replace the filter as well?

Wait so this isn't an osm lamp made by epson?
Epson does not make light bulbs. The lamps are made by Osram.
@@jaspertronics thanks. I was confused because I had bought a replacement lamp years ago and I still have the box and it says Epson on it so I just assumed they made it
Did that goes for the 9210
The PRO EX9210 is a similar unit with the same lamp and could have the same issues.
Excellent advice and simply explained. Your site will be very useful for ordering new bulbs and other products. Thank you so very much for taking the time to make our lives better. I appreciate you.
Thanks man , finally had to replace my original epson bulb
Do these steps also cover replacing the bulb in the Home Cinema 3800?
Literally wondering the same
@@saulvacaperez6925 yes both units should be the same for replacing the lamp.
yes, both units should be the same.
Buongiorno Amico. Hai qualche suggerimento per risolvere il problema del blocco dovuto alla spia temperatura lampeggiante lenta? Grazie
Yes with something like this it could be a number of issues. It could be something as simple as the unit needing a deep cleaning. This is a service we offer and you can find our more information here: www.jaspertronics.com/blogs/news/jaspertronics-projector-repair-services
Super! Thank you!
Hmmm... coincidently, I just found your video right after you posted because I have a small green curved line spot that looks shaped like it might be a dust fibre on the left of my screen when the background is black... it's not really bad, but was thinking about pulling the projector apart to give it a cleaning but Epson doesn't really make things easily accessible so I might just live it with. I would just blow some air in my 1060 if I knew the best place to do it... is there an air entry spot without pulling everything apart?
For what you are describing the dust is likely on the 3LCD and this would require you to open up the unit to fix this.
Thanks for video, so easy to follow and great you do t have to search for a special tool
How do i take off the lense?
The projector lens can only be removed after taking out the main board and tearing down the light path. I do not recommend doing this without any technical experience.
@@jaspertronics what can i do if my lense got burned and i have a donor 5k that i can swap put the parts for?
This comment is strictly for suggestion and improvement purposes only. Overall, this video was very informative and helpful. However, it should be noted the original housing on my Mitsubishi model WD-65738 had noticeable differences from the replacement housing from Jaspertronics. Though, both the original and replacement looked identical, the fittings were shorter on the replacement and a true connection could not be made. Because of this, the replacement housing simply could not be fully inserted in the TV and using the original housing became necessary. Replacing the bulb was much easy than I expected, because the original housing did not have or require the metal band holding the bulb in place. Also of note, the black clips cannot be used again, so once you snap them out, forget about putting them back in. All in all, it was a successful transition and replacement. The folks at Jaspertronics were very kind and helpful.
I am terribly sorry about the issues that you had. All of these housings have been poured from the same mold for the last 10 years or more. This is because the TVs were discontinued over 10 years ago. The lamps have never been produced by Mitsubishi, they have always been produced by Osram. That is one of the main reasons you can still get the lamp. These TVs do have a few known issues and flaws. The big one is that there is no air filter on these units to keep dust out. Over the years this dust will build up on the inside of your unit. This is not your fault and more of a design flaw. This will cause the TV to start to overheat and this can and has warped the bulb compartment of the TVs. By 1-2mm, nothing that can be seen by the naked eye but still enough to cause fit issues. We have found that this is the major cause of these fit issues. Luckily only a handful of people are effected by this but it is becoming more and more common. I am glad you were able to get everything resolved and thank you again!
Did you use Amazon to buy a new bulb? I tried finding it on the the Epson website & I couldn't find the one needed for this projector
The bulb for the Epson 8350 can be found at the link below! www.jaspertronics.com/products/home-cinema-8350-lamp
1) Couldn't you run that filter through water to clean it & then dry it or would that kill the projector? 2) When replacing a bulb, what website do you use to get a new one because I couldn't find it on the Epson website (I'm in Canada)?
You can clean them with water but it is far safer and easier to clean it every so often with canned air and do regular replacements. The filter material will degrade over time and they do need to be fully replaced. There is a link to our site were we sell bulbs in the description as well as a discount code. Thank you again!
any issues with dmd chip white or dead pixel dots? have you found a way to have better cooling?
The best way to improve the cooling is going to be frequent cleanings. Unfortunately any unit that has a DMD chip inside can have the issue you describe. If you are getting white pixels on your screen then it is very likely the DMD.
On my 8350, I get a error that says "Error in the Epson Cinema Filter - Contact your nearest service center". Any ideas how to fix that?
Yes, the cinema filter motor is starting to go out and will need to be replaced soon. This is a very common issue in Epson 8350s. This is something we can help with. You can reach out to our team at 888-391-5596, ext. 904. We can help you setup service options with us to get this sent in.
Thanks so much, I will reach out soon. I think my replacement lamp that I ordered from you comes tomorrow, so glad I found you!@@jaspertronics
....one of the worst video on "how to do stuff" really.....absolutely no clue of what needs to be shown on the video. Takes the cover of in the beginning without even showing where is that actual cover coming off from!!!! Never really showed which screws are to be loosen and how to sequentially disconnect the parts before pulling the old bulb out. C'mon jaspertronics, get real, really......
Thank you for your comment! While we do try to cover all steps very clearly, this was a donor unit that had missing parts and the screws on the lamp cover door were some of those items. There are 2 screw holes on the lamp cover door that do need to be removed and 2 more to unsecure the lamp.
Did you originally have a little clear plastic cover originally?
I have seen a few of these with a little plastic cover that also covers up the bulb in addition to the lamp cover door.
Could you make a video of how to take off the top
It would be possible to do yes, but please note that not all Epson units that take the ELPLP96 are the same. They all have their own unique differences and they do not all open up the same way.
Thanks
Hi! excellent video, Can you help me with one thing, how do you remove the bulb/lamp connectors? I tried to pull them out, I also used paper clip on the little hole put they don't seem to come of...trying to replace the bulb.
The connector should be connected to two wires that run to the bulb. At the bulb side the wires should disconnect from their leads with a straight slow and steady pull. There is a pressure created to keep them together by the design of the folds in the metal of the connector. Steady straight pressure to disconnect is all it takes! Thank you for reaching out to Jaspertronics!
@@jaspertronics Oh, thanks I have to look again. Didn't realize that there were screw and nut/bolt, since on the video mark 2:05 you only reattach the connectors so I only assume that you only pull and push. I believe the pull is not enough, maybe use little help with screwdriver next to lamp so the connector comes of like this video at 3:00 mark ruclips.net/video/Jsd64G8geP8/видео.html. It worked.
@@spaguman Apologies! The initial reply was for a similar model, but incorrect. Please check the edited response above!
@@jaspertronics No problem! Thanks again.
Thank you so much, this video is the reason my family can watch movies again!
I am so glad to hear this! If you have any other issues, please feel free to reach out to me!
I would like to know if it is possible to change the fans of this model for other quieter ones like Nokia etc.
It is certainly possible to change out the fans so long as the connectors are the same and all of the specs line up. I however would stick with the original fans just for the sake of compatibility.
Thank you!!!
I replaced the bulb but the “replace bulb” light keeps blinking?
Did you reset the lamp timer after you changed out your bulb?
@@jaspertronics thanks for that reminder !
Thank you. That really helped
Thank you for taking a look!
wow nice! i really appreciate videos like this short and sweet...question: does the bulb dim over time? Seems like it's end of life..thanks again
Hello John, thank you for your comment! To answer your question, yes, the bulbs to degrade over time. While the only way to get a solid understanding of how much your bulb may have degraded over time is to use a lux meter and to have had an initial test when it was first installed. However, you can assume that once it has hit the 'recommended' hours you have lost essential brightness and brilliance. We typically recommend to replace the lamps when your projector has reached the suggested number of hours, but to hold that lamp as a temporary backup should your projector fail unexpectedly in the future.
How would you suggest to dust the projector internals? Would this require taking apart the project more than seen during your Outro section?
We recommend using a can of compressed air and blowing the dust away from the lens. As for the tear down it really all depends on how much dust has built up on the internals. With this unit it was very clean but some units may need the motherboard to be removed to get to everything.
Well made video thanks for easy explanation
Perfectly explained, thanks!
Ey nice tunes! Haha
Excellent video - thanks!
Hi, Is the bulb easy to replace after removing the little cover or do I need to replace the entire hub? Thanks
Yes it is very easy. Just lift the old bulb and housing out after loosening the screws. The next step would be to simply put the new bulb and housing in! Make sure to give us a like and subscribe and thanks again!
@@jaspertronics Thanks. So I would have to replace the bulb AND the housing. I can't simply replace the bulb itself, right?
did you figure this out?@@bz7981
Wow so helpful thanks so much🥰🥰🥰
I have a Viewsonic px700 and the bulb is at 8 thousand hours and the projector keeps going into safe mode I've taken the Whole case off and cleaned everything with air and it worked for a mouth, But now it's doing it again (Turns on for 30 seconds then safe mode) Should I rest the Lamp hours ? Or do you think it's a Bad Temperature sensor ? When it's working it's still Super Bright so I don't think it's the bulb.
Wow! 8,000 hours and no noticeable dimness is pretty crazy. When you say you are going into "safe mode" do you mean that the error light indicators are kicking on? If so what are the lights doing? That will get us to the root of the problem.
@@jaspertronics I power up the projector 30 seconds to a minute later the screen go's black and the Red Bulb light comes on. This happened about a month ago I cleaned it with air and it worked for about a month. I'm thinking it's a Bad Temperature sensor or the projector can read the hours on the bulb and thinks it's done.
This is super cool. I need to order one for my child!
Their product is great!
Thank you so much for your support!
