Just so you know they are not fuel tanks. They are Bomb Panniers. Due to the geodesic design concerns, the designers did not know if the structure would be able to withstand the addition of bomb bays internal to the fuselage This was of course wrong, and was corrected with their next design....... something called the Vickers Wellington !! 🙂
Just get in with it to mutch talking
Shame that the kit doesn't have figures and seems very sparse, detachable mines would have been a nice touch.
I've been slowly working on these for 3 years lol
Haha I still am too,my kit is sitting on the shelf of doom 😅
Excellent kit tho, I don't want to cheat and buy aftermarket so I will persist! The rest of the panther is fully painted and in my display cabinet
I didn't know paper models was a thing until I was looking at ordering some new metal earth and metal model kits and saw a book called shipyard paper model books for 60 bucks with a bunch of different models of ships in really high detail and scale made out of cars paper so cheap easy to build with minimal tools and look really amazing thanks for reviewing what they are. And the way you build this in sub sections is how we build real full size ships it's called modular construction we do bulk heads and all the decks and supports and everything separately throughout the ship yard then cranes lift them and we pull the units together with huge chain cumalongs and then tack welds and clip them together with thick metal clips and then welders come and weld it all together
Wonderful🎉
I have this kit, just gathering materials before I start on the build. I'm building mine as HMCS Haida, during her actions in the English Channel in '44.
Ha ha....dream on. You probably still believe Invincible was hit
Can you glue PE with that?
Interesting. I haven't had any issues with mine that you have had. Even the decals went on over the raised parts in the cockpit with Mr Mark Softer pretty easily. The prop needs to fit a little tighter which I'll plonk a very small bit of blu-tack in for when its completed. I've filled some slight gaps on the front of the wing landing gear bulges but the Trumpeter P40 was the same with the wing where the landing gear bulges are. Altogether it went together pretty well.
Great video. Sadly Wikipedia isn't detailed on the entire exploits of HMS Sikh and Zulu. Consistent track record of attacking or pursuing far larger ships, including an Italian battleship, German Battleship, aircraft, u-boats, two Italian cruisers (along with Westcott and Isaac Sweers. Sikh and Zulu were present when Ark Royal went down and did time in the Arctic and Mediterranean convoy screenings, just to name a few of their exploits. Not sure what happened to Zulu's crew but Sikh's crew were separated, some going to Germany, some repatriated in time for D-Day, serving on HMS Ashanti and other ships in the Western sea battles after D-Day.
Every video I've seen of the Airfix H-20 Heinkel advises going for the newer moulded ones, but you did really great here, well done! I might consider it myself, providing I can find one cheap enough, as I am only just returning to aircraft modelling after a 50 year break!
I did not have the fit issues you describe. There are also many RUclips builds of this model that do not describe significant fit issues. This kit does not usually present gaps, the clearances being close. It does require careful (thorough) fitting, often the case with precise fitting parts. BTW, P-40s were NORMALLY sprayed the exterior color under the plexiglass side windows, and not interior green, zinc chromate, etc. The plexiglass, under certain lighting conditions, would give those panels the APPEARANCE of having been painted other than the exterior color, but such was not the case.
Luv the birdie pointer!🤣 Jman
I have one of these unmade if it's still your holy grail....
I also found your videos when doing some research into building a model of the ship I once served on. USS Conolly (DD 979) was also an ABL equipped Spruance class ship. I haven't built a model kit since I was a teenager back in the 1980s, and I've been looking into getting back into it. Something tells me that I may want to build a few other models prior to taking this one on as kits are becoming hard to come by. I'm very interested in seeing how yours came out.
I have not finished it yet sorry,I plan to get on with it soon,I got frustrated with the photo etch railings, stay tuned.
You can still get many old KP kits being porduced and sold by SMER. This one is Smer 0919 Mig-15 UTI :-)
Hello, just bought one recently from ZTS Plastyk in Poland for 3Euro. Same plastic, different box and thick decals. It is quite a struggle, but I take it as a training. So far had to sand down and polish all side glasses and also fill a bit with pva/wood glue. I thing this struggle will continue till the end. I have another Lynx by Hobby Boss as a reward in my drawer 🙂 You really got decent result!
My dad built me this in the 70s with wheels up and full matra rocket launchers etc...took about 3 weeks to build cos dad was very picky and humbrol enamels took forever to dry...love to build one qgain
'Too Bad It Isn't The Old "409" (The Number On The Engine Cowling,) 'Same VA 176 "Stinging Bee" Attack Squadron From The U.S.S. INTREPID (CV/CVA/CVS No. 11). What is that little bulldog with the army helmet???? I need that. LOL
My daughter got it for me some place I will find out .
What a pleasure to watch this kind of video! Thanks for your subscribing!
Outstanding. Thanks for sharing. I only have one small job to do and did not want to spend $35 for a bender.
I call your videos "Making the impossible look easy"......such a joy to se what you do at the bench......Hope the hands a holding up. I remember you saying that you had problems working in 1/72 scale these days.
Love the classics!!!
Have a great build.
Great restoration of damaged kits. Saving them from the waste bin is admirable work. Keep having fun. Happy modeling. Bill
Thanks, will do! Bill and I loved putting pilots in them aswell 😊
I’m working on a MONOGRAM 1/48 ZERO right now, all ready to airbrush it.. love the classic kits.. CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
Coming along nicely. Looking forward to part 4
Looking pretty good so far buddy. 😊
Matt, each one of your builds is not just the amazing recovery of a dead kit, it also comes across as an interesting story in itself.
Thank you I didn't think of it that way.
Mine is done Waiting for decals!! N We will have 2 in the air for an upcoming east Africa game
This one is still not finished, I might do something with it over the next week.
@@matthillsscalemodels7067 it’s a good kit, but I might try the one from Valum also
Took me a while too Great kit
Just discovered your channel this project looks fun We’ve been building kits for over 35 years for our games of Mustangs & Messershmitts While we look for the newest greatest most detailed kits out there .. I still remember when we first started with matchbox which were the backbone of our collection To this day, I love getting old air fix kits and trying to make them look good Takes back to a simpler time I enjoyed watching this -good luck, and I may try it and put some on my channel as well !! Thanks for posting Steven Cleveland Ohio
Great to see you at the bench and working on these two classics Matt. You have a plan at least, I hope it all works out as it sounds like a cool idea.👍👍
I'm a big fan of these old Matchbox kits. Looking forward to seeing more
This is going to be pretty cool. I'm a huge fan of the old Matchbox kits. Looking forward to seeing how these turn out
😊😊😊😊
For the Zero, the tail wheel did retract into the aircraft. If I recall, I think that the new tooled Airfix Zero comes with a retracted tail wheel.
😯 Very interesting mate. Looking forward to see what you make of them.
Cool build for the tribute. Dogfight doubles are a great subject. Good luck fixing the smudged up canopy. Bill
Yep - spotted thatw when I was 14 (1972). And the Airfix stands can be seen as a letter A, although I'm not sure if that was deliberate.
thank you for your comment
😂😂😂😂I'm saying nothing brother!!! Glad you had the revelation as it just adds to the nostalgia.👍👍😉
No doubt! Al, something very interesting for me to find 😊😂
NO I think think this is click-bait.....You've made that with a 3-d printer!!!!
No way buddy I went through all my kits that have them and they are the same.
Many irons in the fire. Models are looking good. I like the Wellesly bomber. Too bad about the missing ship part.....Darn Carpet Monster!!!! Awesome Ukraine decals.....hope you can join the GB. Happy modeling. Bill
It's funny how you can look at something for years and then all of a sudden the light bulb turns on. The "M" in flight stands of Matchbox are a new one for me. Thanks for sharing. Crazy stuff!!! Bill
Exactly! Bill ,I was thinking the same.
Nice to hear from you. 🤗 Thanks for the shout out.
No problem 😊
I've missed seeing your videos and insights Matt, this video was a delight to see today, hope that you are doing well man :)
