In this video I run you through how I make my popcorn spawn, and why popcorn is such a great grain to use. popcorn is one of if not my favorite grain to use in mushroom cultivation. I thought I was taking just a little bit and wow Kind of feels like Adderall

Chemicals in tap water? Where do you live? Typically, only chems are bleach and in some cases fluoride. The bleach boils off and the fluoride is super low concentrations. Basically, tap is OK IME which is fairly extensive. There are some minerals and electrolytes including calcium, potassium, sodium and others all of which are good for eukaryotic organisms.
@@johnsmolley1941 I'm sure it's ok, I still don't use it
@mycomuay My comment was more directed to those w/o or it's a pain to acquire filtered water. I'd definitely not use distilled as it can concentrate some nasty VOCs when present.
Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing! Could you use the water used to hydrate the corn to make liquid cultures?
@@MorphingShapes you probably could, I'd only really do that if you're using corn as a spawn. It'll make it so that the mycelium has an easier time going from the you know. Corn-based liquid culture to a corn substrate. There will be no stall out. However, it is good to change The nutrients your isolated cultures getting every once and awhile.
I just did a jar. What about moisture? There is some condensation in the jar. Does it go away? I need to wait til moisture is gone to inject spores, yes??
@@Saultch_e as long as the inside of your jar is sterile you won't get contamination. Having too much moisture can cause wet rot. However a tiny bit of condensation is fine.
If you get condensation lay the jar down on its side on a table and roll it back and fourth for a minute or 2.. the corn will suck up the water. After you do it the first time, let's jar sit for a while. See if it comes back if it does do it again
What moisture are we looking for? Asking for a grain expert
How long?
I asked about the PE he told me you should try the enigma and gave me one gram said that was all I needed 😅 I didn't believe it til I tried it . Take it easy with This crazy but awesome strain.
So how long if using a pressure cooker?
Good instruction appreciate the tissue paper trick. Got a question do u always put your colonizing corn in the fridge? Is there a benefit to that ?
I think he’s putting it in the cabinet above the fridge idk why he opened it.
Turns out this old dog has plenty to learn from a young pup. Thank you!
Popcorns going in the instapot right now! I also have been going off of PGTs info, and it’s great to see there’s another myco out there doing popcorn with an instapot. Great video, hope to see more :)
Havent used the instant pot for this yet but i appreciate the detailed info.
Very clear and unstandable instructions. I just purchased an insta-pot last week for this purpose (and pasteurizing substrate). I'll give it a try tonight ✊️
How's your yield with popcorn vs millet? I read smaller grains give more inoculation points and better yield
From my experience it'll maybe colonize faster but they should have pretty similar yields.
How many ccs go inside the corn one
Depends on how much corn you're colonizing, the more LC you use the faster it'll colonize. I'll be making a video on how I innoculate my corn jars and bags soon👍
Don't really want to go spore to grain. Could ruin all your work sterilizing with a dirty syringe. Get LC or agar and you'll be much happier.
Really all you need for grain jars is 1.5-2ml (cc’s)
Thanks homie, very helpful 😊
Do you grow the truffles on corn also? Or is done on a different grain
For growing magic truffles I use brown rice corn dosent work well, as for gourmet truffles they can't be grown indoors they require tree roots to grow.
You should check out an instant pot steamer basket. You would have to put a bit more water but it would make things easier
I'll definitely check that out👍
Thank you for showing how this can be done in the instant pot! 😊
Literally the only actual enigma time lapse ive ever seen
Thats so cool
Thanks man, this was from my first time ever foraging
Thats huge.
@@1oneguythat ikr, I still can't figure out what it is. You have any idea?
InstantPot specifically states it is not designed for sterilization.
Thats true, however ive used it to sterilize with great results. specifically when sterilizing rice and popcorn spawn jars. i like using the instant pot bcuz its super quiet compared to my presto PC. check my instant pot pop popcorn video for more info if youre interested.
This is really good info! Thank you! Keep these vids coming!
This technique is used in canning, certain foods require a temperature higher than boiling to make them safe (to kill botulism) and that’s done with pressure!
@@JuneNafziger Hell yeah man!! I love pressure cookers, so useful for so many different things.
all i have is an instant pot, how long do you recommend i sterilize for?
Depends on how much you're sterilizing, but I recommend doing a little less than double the time youd do in a 15 psi pressure cooker.
@@mycomuay ok coo, thanks man
Very informative!👍🏻
Glad you think so!
