It's honestly a fun weapon. It hates close combat though, causing you to rely on team mates for protection. That's the joke.
It can claim turf pretty reliably with the Sprinkler, and the Bubble Blower is also nice for pushing back opponents. Especially in tight corners. It does not like grates though, as the little explosion effect only works on solid surfaces.
