Hello from Oklahoma! I guess You could say this song had a pretty big infuence on me. I had a cutlass supreme when this song came out. After listening to C.W. music for awhile on my eight track, I traded my cutlass in for a 1975 CJ5. Boy was that a fun rig! Had a winch up front big lift big tires. I'm on my 10 th jeep now. It'll probably be my last one. I'm an old man now, but can still wheel! God Bless!
funny thing is in my mind all these years that white cj in the pictures used exactly what i seen in my head as i imagined this. Phonex decal and all on the hood with big old school j.c running lamps across the roll over bar and deer kicker.
I was ten when this song was new. I'm 57 now, and it's still funny as ever. _And,_ my brother actually _had_ a CJ5... And we actually ran from cops in it!
We was screamin' through the valley where the Nishnabotna flows Through the mud and crud and cornfields where the marijuana grows 'Cross the railroad tracks at Persia, down the hills and up the dale Had a CJ5 with a four-wheel drive and Smokey on my tail Well, he picked me up at exit 12, on the I-680 ramp I was doin' 67 per when I rumbled through his trap He commenced to whirl his flashin' lights and he made his siren wail I slipped on down to four-wheel drive with Smokey on my tail Now I got racin' stripes and dual pipes and Smokey's got a Ford Got a mill with a four-pot carb, you know, but Smokey's stroked and bored Well, the chase was on, but I had the edge with a rig that'll never fail Got a CJ5 with a four-wheel drive and Smokey on my tail Yeah, he was Well, I dropped on down to granny low and I made a hard right turn My big ol' fat Commando tires went slashin' through the corn Well, the tassels blew and the kernels flew and it looked like yellow hail Just cookin' alive in a four-wheel drive with Smokey on my tail Well, we went screamin' through the valley where the Nishnabotna flows Through the mud and crud and cornfields where the marijuana grows 'Cross the railroad tracks at Persia, up the hills and down the dale My CJ5 with four-wheel drive and Smokey on my tail Look out, now, here he come Oh, we gonna get it on now Don't hit that fella with the banjo We're gonna swim this here creek now, Smokey Yard wide and a foot deep Nishnabotna river, they call it Might have to winch out Gonna do a wheelie on that there gopher mound now, Smokey Can you dig it, Smokey? Got four on the floor and four in the air on that one, didn't we? Goodness gracious 'Bout to bust my shocks Well, that Jeep of mine made Smokey whine, his rig was made of lead He was mired in 14 feet of mud, so he radioed ahead I pulled up onto the blacktop, went crashin' on through the rail Sakes alive, I had 25 more, Smokey's on my tail Now I had racin' stripes and dual pipes and Smokey had a Ford Had a mill with a four-pot carb, you know, but Smokey's stroked and bored Well, the race was on, but I had the edge with a rig that'll never fail Got a CJ5 with a four-wheel drive settin' out back of the jail
I spent a good part of high school riding right by the Nishnabotna river on my dirt bikes. It was fun to cruise down the levee. He said a yard wide foot deep but it’s really quite a bit bigger then that. It was also popular to get a cooler and float down the river with beer and get picked up at a bridge. Cool discovering this.
I was driving my first-year well-preserved wrangler (as old as I am) the other day and didn’t hesitate to drop a gear and throw it through some potholes and pits to get around standstill traffic. Real jeep people are still out there, if rare.

You can run, but you cannot hide. That radio will get you every time
This reminds me hanging out with your old man back in the 120 miles an hour down the road not a cop inside we had to see what that Oldsmobile would do
8 minutes to bury the 120 mph speedometer. I should be dead.
CJs or the newer Wrangler, will do that go across the field tearing it up
❤JEEPTHING❤

All jeeps are good
As long as the door count doesn’t exceed 2. Rubber duck - great CB handle, not so great as a dashboard ornament
Thats a cj7 in the pics

Sad to report that William Fries Jr. aka CW McCall died 1 April 2022 at the age of 93 after a battle with cancer.
William Dale's lyrics and Chip Davis doing the music was a fun combination.
RIP CW
R.I.P. CW. thanks for the music.
