Milt's Mile in Sand Hollow with a Bronco. Did it successfully make it up Middle Monkey? Watch and find out. Or just continue reading. Yes. Yes it did. Did body damage occur? If you define "body damage" as a few light scratches, then sure. But nothing horrible. Can barely hear it make contact. Uhm...what else? Steering locks up a bunch but the driver is getting used to it. No tierods break. No a...

Sixth Gen Bronco on Portals and 40's on Triple 777's in Sand Hollow, Utah. First time getting winched (protect the fenders! No crack but they got some scrapes.) Steering was an issue. Finding ourselves getting bound up a lot even in mud mode and holding off on the front locker. But nothing broke. #automobile #bronco #tripleseven #portals #forties #brawndo #hashtag #girlswhooffroad #winch

Clickbait title - we almost ROLLED our new build! And while this is true, there’s not 50 minutes of that and I don’t know the timestamp, nor am I looking it up as the video wouldn’t export from iMovie. Literally screengrabbed the entire thing from preview to see if it would work 🤦🏼♂️ #bronco #jeep #fjcruiser #moabutah #offroad #cliffhanger

Followed her spotter to a T. Something that you would think is a gimme but I you hardly ever see it to this degree. Great driving and great spotting! Good teamwork. Great video guys and gal.
Thanks! We have a system and practice it to try and avoid confusion! The steering rack doesn’t always agree, but we’re working on solutions.
@ a 74 weld rack maybe?
@@JohnSmith-sh1zg Already have one. Installed it with the 32spline FDU
That was as close as you can get ..
My back hurts just watching this. #teamlift
Same movement as an Atlas Stone. Can't recommend doing it without consistent training. Or just don't be a pussy ;)
She loosened it for him 😂
Dang! How did that fire start? No fuses for winch? What size is that fuse? 😮
We actually had a power disconnect for the winches at the time! They receive no power until we need them. You can see it in the fifth picture. This was the 4G wire that is used to supply power to the air compressor mounted in the back. I believe a 100Amp fuse. There is no evidence of a short to ground anywhere, and the more we looked into it we are quite confident the issue was due to the set screws for the fuse holder loosening. This causes microarcs, heating the wire until the insulation lit us. The compressor was still running when the fire started! looking at the fuse holder you can see the heat drops off significantly a couple inches away from the fuse on the device side. That set screw was still fairly tight. Turns out the set screws commonly loosen on those-I did not know that. So now we revised the setup during the rebuild. Power goes straight in to a 500A relay. Relay sends power through a 500A Class T fuse (20,000 AIC) and then to the distribution block for the for the winches and compressor. All terminal connections with hexagonal crimps-No set screws. Look into the class T fuses. Very important differences compared to AGM on ANL fuses.
Enjoyed the video. It’s a lot easier to buy a bronco with 74 Weld portals already installed like I did. I do wish I could feel the satisfaction of doing it.
Double check the brackets holding your brake calipers on. You’ll need to remove the rotor to do so. Caliper bolts are a 19mm socket.
You’re welcome for the video. Glad you enjoyed it. 👊🏼👊🏼
The title lmao
It is accurate. All of those things can be found in other videos. Had a frickin ryan reynolds fan club bot hit us up “hey we want to collaborate” 😂
Noce calves
Thats some awesome movement going on.there ..what set up is that ??
It is literally the title of the video 😂
Wow. Very lucky. That would of sucked !! 😊
Definitely
You say it has Portales on it ? Sweet ride
It does! Now if we could just keep the brake calipers from falling off that would be great!
Can’t wait to do this with my wife.
Just remain patient and she will do much better
Hell yea, great job.
Thanks! It was tough but rewarding!
I want portals so bad for my bronco........ but that price $$$
There are many factors to consider. If you want to wheel it this isn’t as simple as just bolting them on
Close call
Definitely.
Nice!
Loving my Bronco Sport for light stuff, but watching the FS vids with amazement. It does seem though that some of these rigs are getting too tall with portals and 40+. Interesting to watch people try and find the optimal Portal, Height, Width, etc... some really expensive experimentation going on.
It is definitely too tall. The RK coilovers and 32 spline CV’s provide much better articulation, but comes at a price when using the factory mounting locations. The extra width from the portals somewhat counters the height increase, buuuuuut that huge scrub radius limits the steering. Ideally we will raise the suspension brackets to lower it and find a +55mm wheel to reduce the scrub radius but accommodate the aftermarket uprights. And the bronco sport is king. Don’t let anyone say otherwise
@@Sierra_BroncoGood luck!
I have Hoss 3.0 on my 2024. A few days in moab, I only have 3000 miles. My steering box itself is making noise on the driver side. I thought it was a worn inner tie rod. Nope it's in the steering rack itself 🙄
Dangit! Still running factory tierods?
@@Sierra_Bronco Yes. Stock oem 3.0 tie rods. On my 1000 mile drive home the clunking on the same exact spot in the steering went away. I got home and checked it thinking I'd need a dealer apt. Nope. Been good since. Not sure wtf it was
Nice job. I am heading out there in January with my bronco and portals.
It’s a blast and we’re excited to go back. Will start running high pressure up front to help out the steering rack. The 40’s, low pressure, scrub radius, tighter tolerances from billet rack to prevent it from breaking, and traction are just too much for that rack to handle.
Are you in Moab
Nuuh
Hey, so there is definitely something wrong with your steering rack. Mine does not have any of those issues on obstacles of similar difficulty. @ 9:14 in particular there is absolutely no reason not to be able to turn driver especially since the front end is unloaded at that point.
@74weld what are your thoughts? We’ve received this same feedback from a few people on portals and 40’s
74Weld said they do not recommend 40” tires and not to air down below 12 psi. They then said Bailey Cole did everything in Sand Hollow on 15 psi, and that the top KOH racers run 40 psi cold. So learn to drive with more pressure. We want to crawl as much as possible, hence the low pressure and large contact patch. Niiiiiiice and gentle if we can. Guess the key is to send it and hit obstacles like a racer. These are IFS platforms, after all.
@@Sierra_Broncoso what's the point of having expensive portals if you can't run a bigger tire 🙄
Siiicckk
Glad u got video of u getting tippy @41:45
lol yes, still bummed out I’m missing one of the 2nd handstand!
Loved your opening statement! ❤
Nice job!
Thank you!
Nice that was close i got spooked just watching
Certainly a pucker moment!
How did the brake bleeding go? The instructions did not talk about pressure bleeding which is required on the 2.7 but not the 2.3. I used the Dorman 611-011 wheel lugs because the factory rims don't fit the 74weld hubs. That turned the factory rims to a "wheel centric" not a hub centric set up. Using F250 or F350 lugs technically is not the proper lug because they have a flat washer as opposed to the Dorman lugs which have a taper which is designed to center the wheel with the wheel studs. You should also change the axle ratio on your vehicles computer (very easy).
Went through two bottles of brake fluid to finally get the brake system happy. Ordered a venturi bleeder but ended up not needing it by the time it showed up. As for the lug nuts we ordered stock lug nuts for a platinum trim F350 as they are tapered. Those did the trick and no issues so far with 1000-1500 miles. Not interested in Procal to adjust the speedo. Seems like it’s more trouble than it’s worth based on reviews. Will continue using FORSCAN as we can help other people make beneficial changes too. Will wait on Goosetuned as we can get a custom tune with the portals on a dyno, change tire size, and delete “brake over throttle.”
Did they upgrade you hubs to the 1 ton? I have to get different lug nuts because my portal hubs are 1 ton. Was curious are you using your factory wheels and you changed the lug nuts? Or what rims are you running. Thanks for the response.
Yip! These are one ton bearings ans lugs. Using factory wheels with lug nuts for a platinum F350 to make it work. (Sorry for the delay. Notifications are turned off for social apps 😉)
Installing the 74weld Portals was very easy. They are very well engineered. Of course the instructions I downloaded didn't mention that new lug nuts are required. The front sensors didn't fit flush in the portal box. Aside from that it went very well. Did you guy's change the gear ratio on your vehicles computer.
We didn’t change the gear ratio but we maxed out the circumference at 2800mm. (Tried going to the actual number just to see what would happen. Truck was not happy) With that change the speedometer is about 8% off
Good work! Wow that was a big job. Love watching you guys work together and figure things out and just keep moving until the job is done :)
Thanks! We only worked on it in the morning so it took three days but we did it!
Great job GF ❤️🫶🏻🥳🎉🥳
Nice job. Dropping my 2-door off Monday for install.
Nice! Who is doing the work?
@@Sierra_Bronco Fli-N-Hi Offroad in Phoenix AZ. Portals, Hoss3.0 74 Rack and the RK rear 4-link and truss.
You’re going to love that setup! Consider ordering a rear driveshaft from AdamsDriveShaft as the four link allows the stock driveshaft to articulate into the tank, especially on the two door. We just noticed it had been happening on ours while installing the breather tubes and ordered one. They had it built and shipped the next day.

That's a construction hammer. 😅
When my man did the other side it popped right off! Guess men really are stronger than girls
