Game Tablz Conversation

Phillip is following the development of Game Trayz folding game table and it looks promising as I am thinking they are listening to the people while they refine and make it truly what they wanted: a compact option to play your games on if you don't have a dedicated gaming space. I really like the way they are going with it at the moment and can't wait for it to hit the market to give it a reall...

So many Kickstarters, so little money :D Thanks for keeping us in the loop on what's going on in the board game space!
Always that, but it is interesting to see what is being innovated in board games.
Only person remotely showing the new nightfall expansion. I hope you show nightfall more so I can know more before Gen con 2024. Thanks for this very cool video.
I won't lie to you, probably won't happen before Gencon as I (Phillip) am pretty busy and would I have to talk Heather into games of it. It is one game that I want to dive into as I have so much content there to explore.
Great review !!
Thank you
I love the Villainous games but I agree with your take on the storage issue. I was actually looking up storage solutions on Etsy earlier today. I remember a while ago, Target was doing a bundle of the base game for Disney and the first two expansions, but they were still in separate boxes. If they had put them in one big box, I would’ve gladly bought it and put away the one’s I already have for good. Also, I’m genuinely curious on what you would think of the Marvel version, since there are much more opportunities to directly interact with opponents in there than in Disney and Star Wars. (One last thing: Maleficent is Sleeping Beauty’s villain, not Evil Queen)
I want more of a Dice Throne style storage for my Villainous games rather than the boxes they currently make for it on Etsy. I also don't like the charges Etsy puts on its creators so I haven't gone that way for it. I would be willing to try the Marvel and Star Wars variants, I just don't have access to them and don't really want to drop the money on them. And oops on the Maleficent bit.
When you play the more balanced villains you get a better experience. Some villains are just too hard or too easy. It’s an ok game but I can see how it’s not for everyone.
I think its definitely not overproduced. Light/medium gamers also deserve deluxefied components, it's not somthing exclusive to heavy gamers. Very pretty game.
Part of the allure of the game is the full size minis for such a simple game. The game would function the same with cardboard pieces (they are making it at the moment). Overproduced, Yes, worth it: Yes. I don't regret anything with purchasing.
@@AssortedMeeples It's not overproduced just because it's a simple game. The community thinks heavy games have the monopoly of super deluxified components but it doesnt. Even a heavy game can work pretty well with cheaper components.
I really enjoy this game, but the reason we collect it is mainly because my wife is a Disney/Pixar fan. I agree that the boxes are getting out of hand. One solution is to use the Unmatched (Restoration Games) storage solution.
Some people like a more solitaire-like experience in their multiplayer game, but playing against it can sometimes bee very frustrating as you can't always interact effectively. I could definitely see why you might let this one go from your collection.
It really wants to be a multi player game, it just isn't.
An overabundance of components definitely makes me more cautious about a board game. If a large number of parts are applied intuitively though, I can get over that pretty quickly.
There definitely is a balance between form and function and parts for parts sake.
Would've been nice to see some examples to get a visual of what you're talking about.
Sorry the thing called time escaped me as a vacation called my name!
That was a good opening joke. Epic, I am going to tell my family this one.
Glad you liked it.
- hears you praise the amount of inventory space - wonders which game you're playing
You have to buy so many licenses just to get a bigger belt and backpack. Now Portia/Sandrock - there's a game that does inventory space right, IMO (though I still very much like Dinkum - but unless you obsessively plan you're always running out of backpack space)
Not on the backpack space as you can't carry everything, but you can organize it all very nicely without having 50 million chests full of items.
Portia does inventory right even if it costs an arm and a legs to get it.
If you haven't already then I strongly suggest Machiavelli/Citadels! It's my favorite game right now to play with friends.
We'll have to give those a look, thanks for the recommendations!
Sweet new intro!
Short, up-tempo, on point - I agree, I like it!
Pretty snazzy!
Glad you like it. Always trying new things to improve the channel!
Oh god those end credits, lol. Nicely done.
Oh Shane, surely you'll learn from this and....ah, who am I kidding.
Shane will never learn
That is a solid group of games, definitely fun that exceeds the dimensions of the box! Safe travels and good gaming!
Everything fit in nicely and traveled so well. I am sometimes surprised at how many games you can get into a space if you remove all the boxes.
No slack for you, none I say! I kid, enjoy your trip!
It was a fabulous trip.
Thanks for taking a look at Around the World, we truly appreciate it! 🙏 -Rocky
I have the files now, so I look forward to giving it a try here in the near future.
I love me some Lacorsa - enjoyed watching it be demoed and playing it, excellent choice for a 10x5.
The quick setup time, the presence on the table, and the great card play make this a good one for sure!
Mosaic is 2 player card game that uses cloth.
I will need to look into that one. What is it about?
I personally am curious to try the Jett the Currier deck. Seems like a deck that I could work!
I remember when you played this on Twitch - you had a lot of positive things to say and seemed to really enjoy it!
It was a great game to play and I look forward to playing the physical version of it.
A fine list! I've really come to appreciate how well designed some of these games are at 2 players, despite usually playing with 4.
A lot of games play really well at 2 players but it always changes the dynamic so much.
*Promo sm* 😝
Go Team Heather!
I both love and hate when she crushes me in a game.
This game was a lot of fun to play and I think this is one game that would get a lot better with repeated gameplays against the same player.
Thank you for having us! We are so happy you enjoyed the game. It was much fun to see you playing in the stream Such a great analysis of Cosmic Chains and the campaign✨
Glad to hear we did it justice! I'm pretty excited to get my hands on the physical game, and am looking forward to seeing where your team goes from here :)
I'm so happy to see Siclen Studio and their team succeed - we've got a gameplay link in our description from our preview stream on Twitch, and I highly recommend taking the game for a spin on Tabletop simulator if you're on the fence about whether this game is for you.
Poor Heather! Thanks for shouting out the Patreon!
Always we love our community!
Gen Con schedule goes up soon too, very excited!
Weirdly, I think playing cards come the closest. They're clearly not a game themselves, but the vehicle for a huge variety of games that have been played for centuries. Maybe that makes them the perfect game engine instead.
You are not wrong as that is a good system as it has old games for it and new ones being made constantly.
There is a perfect game you liar - Lords of Waterdeep expansions
We could argue for a lot of games being perfect but eventually they will fall to the wayside.
When my wife mows, I get nothing but burnt grass. Thanks for the vid!
Our lawn is a bit big for her to deal with so it is my job, but I don't mind it.
Nice whiskers. Check out the lead in Mungo Jerry.
I love my chops but they take a lot of effort to keep looking pretty!
Square One is something that I am extremely excited for. Auto-back for me since we streamed Project L.
I game Heather the quick run down of the game and she say hit the button.
A great looking game and a high quality material obviously!
I got the Sundrop or washed option and couldn't be happier. All the components are as high quality as you could want in a game.
Perspective is definitely one way of addressing your comfort with complex board games, but knowing what you want out of a game is also a big part of that. For those experienced board gamers that find gateway games boring, they are probably seeking a challenge. Me? I generally don't want understanding the rules of a game to be the challenge - I want the strategies, gameplay, and my opponents to be the challenge. Probably why I like gravitating toward the easy to learn, difficult to master style games.
I find that once the rules have been figured out in a game, it all becomes pretty easy. In the heavier games it just takes a lot longer for those rules to settle in and make sense. But I tend towards the middle of the scale where there is rules upkeep but not to the point of the rulebook being a textbook.
Whoa, that solo play clearly means business! Do you think solo modes are specifically designed with increased difficulty, or is there enough of a shift in gameplay dynamic you have to change how you approach the games?
I think it is that most automa are machines that just march to a goal as their orders direct, and as a player (Phillip) I tend to roll with what comes at me. Sitting and puzzling through it to find the most optimized moves is not my strong point.
So I came up with a concept for both, but deviated a bit from the stereotypical classes for Tabaxi or Kenku. Maximus the Tabaxi Warlock, his Fae Patron is an obsessed cat lady who insists on dressing him up and pampering him with food and trinkets. And mimicking some of these ideas in true Kenku fashion.... Poe the Raven, a College of Spirits Bard who tells the best ghost stories.... In the first person, in the voice of the ghost. Yes, he is a former member of a circus. Thanks guys! I subbed.
Braden here, and I LOVE the cat lady Patron idea. I wish I could claim credit for thinking of that myself! Also a big fan of Poe the Raven, and I know Shane would be as well since we both have English degrees! And thank you for the sub - glad to hear you are enjoying our content!
The irony here is I'm listening to this as I'm scanning the rules for Project L for Thursday...
No shooting me for that as it was agreed upon before the ban went up.
No such thing as an overproduced game... Wish people would stop using that term... This game is really great and such a beauty on the table!
I have to agree that this game is truly something special on the table when it gets going. I don't think it would have garnered nearly as much attention if it had just been a polyomino cardboard game.
An overproduced okay game, its all about the buildings and not the gameplay really, but looks amazing after playing and seeing everyones board thats for sure
I got a game in with my wife last night and it is what I expect from Emerson, a very simple and straight forward rules that allows for a lot of really good and hard choices. There are also a lot of modules to add to it once the base game loses its luster. The buildings are the large part of the appeal for sure!
@@AssortedMeeples i might buy the reimplementation foundations of metropolis or just go for the meatier same feel game the princes of florence
@@sansrival933 that is a good way to get the game and I will need to look into the Princes of Florence as I am not familiar with it.
That game is very, very pretty. And also probably not helping with shelf space :D
It is not helping at all on the shelf space. (Loudly crying in the corner.)
Something something, giant game, something "Rome wasn't built in a day" reference, something. Looks great but good god - that's a LOT of game!
What I really like about it is that it isn't a lot of dead space in the box. The box is that size because it needs to be that size. Everything is fit in very nicely.
"I'll find a stone owl" No you won't Phil, no you wont. :D
Don't crush my dreams! I understand I will never find one but you don't have to crush my dreams.
I am certain either of our D&D groups would be happy to subject you to our various brands of chaos.
Excellent, I will have to take up that offer at some point, especially if a DM needs a character for reasons.
It's always nice when playmats fit in the box, though Playmat tubes have proven to be a great solution for those games where that isn't an option for me.
I have seen some pretty great storage solutions for matts, mine are all in a storage tub
this game is begging for a decent insert, maybe even a whole new box that contains everything. Will be big but damn there are way too many boxes.
I am at a loss for how you would get it all in 1 box with it being cardboard, maybe an old ammo crate or something. I will probably put it in 2 or 3 plastic file boxes that can sit under my shelf along side Marvel United
Do you feel like the size of the game was necessary, or became bloated because of the collector's edition/Kickstarter thing? Kind of curious if you see it as a standalone or something that aimed to be collectible/special edition as a base idea.
If course it's a ridiculous kickstarter bloat, it's after all just a relatively simple card game.. and the creaters just rotate around.. ;)
This game has always been about the spectacle of fighting giant monsters over the coarse of the game campaign and figuring out what is happening on the island. As with most Crowdfunded projects of this nature, it is bloated because they made it over the top and kept adding monsters as the campaign progressed. If this was pre-crowdfunding, you would have gotten a box with 5 or 6 monsters to battle against, if that did well they would add an extra campaign arc with more monsters till you have the same boat we are in now of how to store this nicely
That is So. Much. Game! And the minis are so pretty! I agree that the box looks a little concerning. games like Millennium Blades did a better job reinforcing for large quantities of cards.
The board the box is made of is heavy duty it is just the corners of the box that is the weak point that will need some watching. Level 99 Games puts out beefy boxes to cover the weight that they are going to take.
