Thruxton 1:26 BMW E36 3.0 M3 Road vs Race
Second time at Thruxton, again on sub-par tyres, brought these here to die. After this lap the front left outside edge was down to the canvas... so mission completed.

Brands Hatch GP First time here and what a circuit - got to be up there as the best in the UK ? Tried out the cheaper end of tyres in flavour of Zestino 140 TW 235/40/17 all round - got to admit they done great and wore well too, which I usually cannot say after any track day S50B30 - 5 speed - 3.64 Drexler - maybe 300hp - maybe 1300kg

Had always shied away from Thruxton as didn’t think it was suited to my old M2 - but the E36 is right at home here. Knew it was another tyre killer track so came with some already illegal/past best Dunlop Direzza. Car didn’t feel balanced throughout the day. Post track day investigation discovered the front left damper was completely shot and wobbling.

Little wave to the track marshal at turn 9 being told off for drifting on previous laps... followed by a small accidental slide. @SamR1989 another great vid. could I pick your brains on something? so I have a Clio 200 and an M2 Competition atm. M2 will be going soon to fund a house purchase... after which I'm planning to turn the Clio into a proper track tool (cage, coilovers, strip interior etc).. thing is your recent videos in the E36 have really got my questioning whether to sell it and follow a similar path (took the M2 on track and really enjoyed the rwd element, trying to keep it in check showed how 'easy'/safe the Clio is to drive fast). Any opinion on it now you've explored both cars on track?
Experienced all 3 to be fair (M2 being non-comp though) and out of them I would go E36. M2 was great but got a little boring being modern with electric steering & DCT ect. Clio again was a bit of fun again, but FWD and not all that much power also got boring. E36 even though an "M3" its not got all that much power nor the lightest so you've got the work for the pace which is really rewarding.

Nice chase, og car has a passenger ~200 lbs that is about 20 HP reduction for M2

How'd you compare the 36 against the M2 mate?
Few seconds slower round here but 36 is so much more involved than modern stuff. M2 was a great car but did feel like was in an arcade game in the end.
Nice E36, @1:22 even Donington is a BMW fan. About 3-4 seconds faster on slicks?
Should be a heap quicker soon as an S54 has been fitted

Really nice lap times. What tyres? Standard M3 engine? I'm hoping for sub 1:30 in my e46 330d touring - managed a 1:32 last week but had power-loss issues so can't wait to go back soon and get some clean laps.
This was on BTCC medium slicks - standard engine. Back there this weekend in an e36 now

Yes - then Intrax transformed the car, traction gain and driver feel was hugely improved

Any chance you would sell a recaro spa seat?
Love that diff whine - presume you have the diff lifted? Alsom how have you found the BTCC brakes? What pads do you run? I am about to embark on my M2C journey, so would be great to hear about your experience with modifications.
That’s actually stock (no lift kit) M2 are solid subframes, think louder as no rear seats and loud tyres. Used the ST45 pads, good but massive amount of dust.
Great vids and nice driving! Long shot but did you ever try the M4 with the ohlins spsupension? I’m thinking of putting some coilovers on my M4 and looking at KW 2 way Clubsport and the Ohlins.
Never used Ohlins, kw clubsport were okay but always had their weaknesses, final straw was when they broke and damper became detached. Went Intrax 1K2 and improvements all round. Cars being sold so Intrax as coming off next week.

They’re from an M2 comp so bolt straight on. Pretty sure F80/F82 won’t fit.

Ever had problems with the n55? Can’t decide between this or RS3…
M2 N55 has never put a step wrong so far. Really depends what you want from a car ? RS3 will possible make a better road car but I'd imagen on track it would be numb, 5 cylinder pops n bangs + understeer. Whereas the M2 chassis is really rewarding.
I'd try this with my manual M2C

Wasn't holding back but better brakes on the OG made up for the power difference.
