Direct bolt on with minimal modification. Toyota changed the calipers after 2004. If you're looking to upgrade, just search for brake calipers and pads from a 2006 Tundra.

I have an 03 Seqouia, 350k on it. There's no sign of leakage, should I change the covers? There's a good chance they're original 😂
So I recently bought an '03 with 350k on it. The seller claims he had the water pump and timing belt done last year. How can I verify this? What would you do?
Did you get a tune and dyno results with this set up?
I did not. I ended up selling the car for a profit. Had I hung onto it, I would have gotten a tune. Somehow never threw a CEL tho.
Just broke my bolt in the same location! Smh
Hate to see it! Hopefully it didn’t cause you too much trouble!
Great video..some don't understand why some jobs cost so much at the shop especially with older vehicles. Hoses, bolts, plastic retainers etc break. Great video thanks for sharing
Exactly! Can save a lot of money doing it yourself as long as you’re not afraid to get a little dirty!
Just bought a 01 today. I did my research and found that the timing belt is crucial to keep the engine going. You did a helluva job. Definitely saving this video for when i do the job. Good work 💯
Thanks for the support! It’s been a great rig for me so far! Has about 340k on it, and it doesn’t miss a beat!
Excellent video my man!! Thank you.
Glad to help!
excellent video and I dont own a sequoia lol
Hahah, I sometimes find myself watching maintenance videos on cars I don’t own as well!
I thought it was going to be worse. Thanks for the video and your time
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, I couldn’t help but notice your Pivot case on your iPad. I have the same one on my mini5. Are you a pilot as well?
Haha, good observation! I am a pilot!
@@derekmcguckin2114 very cool, I’ve been flying for a few years just as a hobby. Keep the blue side up !
I did this 2 times all ready it keeps leaking right away i feel like a failure lol
Shoot, I’m sorry to hear that! Are you using a genuine Aisin water pump? Did you clean the mating surfaces really well?
Roughly how long did it take you?
It took me a couple days, but that’s because I was doing it and simultaneously trying to record video. Not to mention having to drill out a couple broken bolts that added a lot of time, and having to work on it around my work schedule. If you have all the parts and tools and started in the morning, I bet you could have it done in under 6 hrs. Also depends if you’re working with a rusty environment or not. My sequoia spent most of its life in New Jersey, so it’s covered in rust.
Thanks for showing all the details that go into this project. Most of the time I watch these how-to's - then go ahead and give it a go to find out there were some key road blocks that were skipped or glossed over. Nice job showing the steps of the process on action. It gave me the confidence to tackle the caliper upgrade. Well work it in my opinion. A noticeable difference for me, not sports car like - but noticeable. Add to that fact that the existing driver side inside pistons were frozen - its running like a top, now. Only caveat that I saw was that the pad spread/spring is suppose to mount on the top pin, per the Toyota Manual. But, hey - not sure it would make much of a difference. Thanks Again!
I tried to make it as concise as possible! Glad you liked it!
This is a great video as is. I am in the process of getting the parts from Toyota, so i thought putting the parts list would take this to the NEXT level! This is what i am ordering so far : Timing Belt Part Number: 13568-09070 1 $59.42 V Belt Part Number: 90916-02792 1 $45.23 Pump Assy,Water Part Number: 16100-09201 1 $132.23 Radiator Assy, Mvp Part Number: 16410-AZ012 1 $167.78 (this is optional) Air Filter Part Number: 17801-07010 1 $20.39 (this is an optional item, but doesn't hurt to change it) Please, those who know more about this add any parts i might be missing.
Surprise no one notice that the brake pads over hang 1/4in pass the rotor.
dude! SAFETY ISSUE! NEED FACE SHIELD WHEN USING A GRINDER
Thank you this was well done and informative. Also the dad in me says ' Please lower the truck onto the jack stands and wear eye protect when grinding' ok, got it off my chest.
Victor reinz set?
You can do without removing the spark plug just line up the marks on crank pulley and cams, keep turning until they line up .
Can you fix for me please I will pay you ?
How many hours work? How much cost 💲
Good video but be careful when cutting metal close the your shocks
This video is phenomenal! You did this job one handed! I am about to do this to my truck and this video will be instrumental to my success! Thank you so very much. I will come back when I am done and tell you how it goes!!! Edit 1: Halfway through, now for reassembly! Edit 2: Done and running. You did miss a step tho. Before you start putting the timing cover puzzle together, you need to install the serpentine belt tensioner pulley assembly. Right after the fan bracket. Still such a useful video!!! Thank you so very much!!!!!!
How many hours did it take you? I'm no where near being a pro so I will estimate my time for at least 1.5 times longer. My greatest fear is aligning the timing and broken bolts. Seems I have to break some bolts regardless of how careful I am.
@@monkeyking-self-proclaimed7050 it was pretty brutal. Took me 3 days. However, when I had to do it, I had a broken rib from about 3 days prior. Having a broken rib makes this job a lot harder. Still, I would expect it to take a couple days. It is a lot of work. Good news? It isn't terribly hard to do. A little tip, the harmonic balancer usually comes off the crank with minimal effort. I used a couple prybars and it took very little effort to remove. Hopefully that helps. Best of luck.
Oh, and use a paint marker to make marks on your gears and timing belt. Then transfer your marks from your old belt to your new belt. Should make that easy. As for torque. If you can't get a torque wrench to the bolt, tighten it by hand. Be careful. Aluminum can break under strain. Best of luck.
Well, I’m far from a pro as well, but it’s definitely doable as long as you’re not afraid to get a little dirty! Took me a lot longer because I was simultaneously recording, so I may not be a great judge at how long it may take…
Why do you need to hold the cam pullys? The timing belt won’t just slip on? I’m confused on that part
how did you extract that broken bolt, ?
Drilled a small hole in the middle and then used a standard bolt extractor.
Detailed ... now I can replace my sequoia water pump n timing belt
I hope you didn't reusing that antifreeze! I believe it's the wrong type.
Super behind on y’all’s comments, but you’re absolutely right, the green antifreeze is not correct. I flushed with distilled water, drained again, and then used Toyota’s pink fluid!
I am doing this now and my rims rub on rhe caliper.??
Were u able to get it click when u torque it down? I cant get my to click.
Wow
I having problems with the water pump and rear speed sensor ABS light on
Hi! Derek this is a very great video you explain very well muchas gracias
Very nicely done and great editing and narration of video, total pro on all counts, thank you!
DEAR SIR, YOU ARE SO WELL ORGINIZED BEYOUND WORDS DESCRIPTION. TECHNICALLY YOU MUST #1. THE BEST CASE STUDY FOR THE JOB ON RUclips. THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE CASE STUDIES TO HELP PEOPLE IN OUR FIELD.
Awesome video. Ima let Toyota deal with that!
Haha! Hey, no shame in letting someone else do the job!
Wow excellent video of the timing belt replacement!
So I could use calipers, pads and rotors for a 2006 on my 2002 tundra?
Correct, should just be a bolt on replacement.
Great concise vid!
Pretty easy looking job. Dealer wanted $567 to change them lol.
Oof, yeah it’s not that bad of a job. Can definitely do it yourself for a fraction of the cost!
I completed mine just now and crunk it up she's running nice and smoothly with new water pump and timing belt appreciate your video was a tremendous help
Wish my fan would pop off like that I'm trying to do my timing on 2002 sequoia and I'm stuck on the fan not coming off that simply for me lol
I have a 2002 sequoia did you have to rotate the crankshaft?
Do you have to rotate the crankshaft at all?
did you have to rotate the bottom crankshaft?
I bought the kit for my 2002 sequoia 2wd hope I can get this done myself as I don't want to wait to put into shop
Wow really proper work 👏
Great job! Thanks for saving me $1500!
So happy to hear this! Thank you for the feedback!
You are great mechanic and great teacher with confidence
Thank you so much for the kind words!
@@derekmcguckin2114 I was able to change the timing belt and water pump system. Watched several videos but none is clear like yours, gave me a confidence
You did a great job by one hand for camera, one hand for the job and explaining clearly as far as you go ❤
Thank you for the kind words and support!
@@derekmcguckin2114 Rainman Ray couldn't have done ot any one handed better!! 😅
Thanks for this. It looks like I'm paying this is a little outside of my comfort zone lol
Haha, hey, no shame in taking it to a shop, but it’s really not too bad of a job assuming you have the tools and patience!
