Episode 1 - Introducing the Neurotic Knitter Podcast
I’m listening to you, drunk and high. I’ve thrown away everything that’s related to drugs. Really hoping today was my last day not sober. Tomorrow starts the work. Thanks for sharing❤
very nice
Congrats
That's awesome. Keep up the good work
I really enjoyed hearing your story. You have a very calm and easy-listening voice. I too struggle with only having one or two drinks, and so now at 57 I am once again about 8 months with no drinking. I went clean for 7 years and 7 months in my 40's.
This randomly popped up on my home page, but I just want to congratulate you on your success!
Congrats! Thank you for sharing your story. I totally relate to the part where you discussed our (individual and larger) world being focused on social drinking. My husband and I stopped drinking about a year or so ago. We did not like how it was affecting our physical/mental health and we had preteen kids and just did not want to drink around them. It is so awkward at times to not be drinking or to have to explain why we are not drinking or say no to a drink, and we find we are excluded from some social gatherings because of it and then feel a little lonely. My parents and sister are heavy social drinkers (daily drinking, pairing wine/beer with food) and so took some time to get used to spending time with them, and be comfortable with all that. We make people very uncomfortable and I hate that aspect! With all this said, the benefits of not drinking definitely outweigh all these cons!!
Congrats Drew!!! Thanks for being so brave to share with really the world. Yes you should celebrate and continue to celebrate these milestones. I relate to your worry/anxiety as a kid, while my story is a bit different, I totally get it. We know none of us is perfect and we all have our challenges, so yes acknowledge and celebrate!
Congrats on your achievement. I wish you success 🎉
I found the same to be true with allover heavily textured sweaters. At completion last year, I steam blocked a beautiful textured cardigan and it was glorious. I practically lived in it and loved to show it off. This year I had to fully wash it and what a disappointment! The texture relaxed so much that now it's only suitable for wearing around the house.
I think that tight i-cord neckline is totally fixable by inserting a lifeline after the fact, picking out the i-cord, and knitting something in the opposite direction. I wish I were there to help you in person
Love this! " what's the point of being an adult if your can't treat yourself every once in a while" definitely going to use this as an excuse to treat myself🥰
Don't you think blocking will help the blip?
Just use it as your mindless knitting it is relaxing
Once in floral is also gorgeous
Thank you for the journey through ice dying.
Normandale is gorg❤
After you finish your two Rhinebeck sweaters, I'd say to finish your Once & Floral. You and I were buying Plucky at the same Pop-up for that sweater. Our colors are pretty similar, but my roses are Goin' Steady. I know it's fingering, but you can do it!! Also, I have the same rant about helical knitting. Everyone tells you how to start, but no one tells you how to finish. I came up with a solution. It may not be "correct", but it's what I do, and you can't tell. After you've skipped the 3 stitches, picked up the yarn that's waiting for you, knit to the BOR. Then, I slide the stitches around to get to the other strand of yarn. I use that strand, knit the 3 stitches and continue knitting to the BOR. Then pick a strand and cut the other one. With the i-cord neck that's too tight, I'd try doing it again with a larger needle. Maye 1-2 sizes up. Just my two cents. Keep us posted!!
Thanks for the great advice!! And I totally remember your Once and Floral which is a show stopper! Thanks for watching!!
Really enjoyed this episode. You have many winners there just waiting to be worn. I'm a little blown away by all the gorgeousness!! I am pretty much a monogamous knitter so it was fun to live vicariously through you. LOL. I am not experienced enough to give you any solutions but I'm sure you'll get many suggestions. Good luck and keep on knitting!
Thanks for your kind feedback! Not to sound like a stalker but I always love the things you make. Your Whispers sweater inspired me to purchase yarn for my own. But as you can see, it might be a while before I cast it on 🥴
His designs are beautiful but hard to wear in public
Crazy sock lady make any sock a shortie you tube video
Loved this episode! What a great idea. You've inspired me to finish the sweaters I have going as well! My thoughts on you're undecided wips...I say if you're not 100% into it, frog it. If I don't love something, for whatever reason, I'm not going to wear it. You have such good taste in yarn, I would hate to see it sit unused in a project you're not passionate about! I too run hot, and have given up on worsted weight sweaters for the most part. I just don't/won't wear them. I have a couple in my closet, and that's enough for me:) I have had to embrace the fingering weight sweaters here in VA!
Thanks my friend!! I like DK and worsted because I can actually finish them 🤣
@@iamtheneuroticknitter TOTALLY hear that LOL!!
I really enjoyed seeing all the wips and future plans.
Thank you so much!! More to come. Glad you tuned in!
You could definitely pick up the brioche stitches (or add a lifeline) then snip the orange and rip out the icord. I've done something similar -not sure how but the icord became several pieces. But they you can add whatever collar works best back on! I think doing an alternate collar or going up needle sizes may help but you'd have to play with it. Olga jazzy has the skylight sweater that has a great icord collar. Not sure if it's just a wider neck or if there was something about the instructions?
This is such good news!!
Also, the collar construction on the blue sweater looks interesting and kinda fun. I’m eager for you to get through that one and talk about it.
That’s coming in the not so distant future!!
Yep, that’s an accurate description of my project management style. 😜
I’m so glad! I hope I represented you well ❤️🤣
Im glad I found your channel!! I can’t wait to see your Rhinebeck sweaters. Congratulations on your new home!
Thank you so much! Thanks for joining me here. Much more sweater content to come.
Drew moved again. You two running from the law? 😂
Hahaha! Just the life of two 40 something’s trying to make it, including a recovering academic. We hope to be in TN for a long while. Miss you ❤️
Welcome back! Hope we run into each other Rhinebeck Weekend!
Hey Gary!! I hope so too ❤️❤️
Another entertaining podcast. Look forward to seeing the green socks, the Rhinebeck sweaters, the Whispers Sweater and the Mystery Shawl. Nice color choices. You had me at green! Great that you are going to Rhinebeck. Your cabin sounds amazing. Have a fun, relaxing time. I hope to make it to Rhinebeck Saturday and/or Sunday and say hello. I'm already doing my sweater-weather dance!
Thanks so much for your kind words Michael! Glad to be back. Looking forward to future podcasts and seeing you in the flesh this Fall! ❤️❤️
nice to meet you, drew 😊 first time watcher here. michigander. fellow fiber hustle lover. love the shirt you are wearing. look forward to watching again in the future!
Hi Laurie!! Welcome! What part of Michigan? I’m from metro Detroit. Thanks for the compliment on the shirt. Hope you’ll keep watching!
Hey! Good to see you're back! I also ADORE self-striping shortie socks:) I recently ordered some 50g skeins from Nomadic Yarns. I didn't realize she did that, but they are the perfect size skeins for a pair of shorties. Assuming 50g will work for your size of course! Happy knitting and keep the podcasts coming!
I miss you my friend! Hugs!
“I’m your boyfriend now Nancy” is from Nightmare on Elm Street.
Thanks for the clarification! Not big on scary movies 😬
Welcome back!!
Thanks my friend! Glad to be back! ❤️❤️
Hi Drew! So good to see you again! You've been missed! Lovely episode and makes. Congratulations on your new home! Many Blessings to You and your Family. ✨💜✨
Thank you so much for the warm wishes. Glad to be back! ❤️❤️
Well you made me spend money! Miss you ! I am not able to get out.
Haha! My job here is done! 😜 Miss you! ❤️❤️
It was fantastic seeing you last week...glad the glow continues. You provide such a great representation of the retreats and the amazing community that comes.
Thanks for sharing the experience.
Thanks for the description!! I hope to be able to go to one of these someday.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience! I recently signed up for the Seattle Men’s Knitting Retreat. It will be the first time I attend an event like this and this video has made me even happier with my decision to register.
just discovered you and the last video is a year ago... come back to us!
Also a Northern VA knitter here. Just stumbled across your podcast. Keep up the great work!
“Creature Comfort Knits” - you mentioned this phrasing a few times on this episode and I think it fits!
“Unwound” - plays into the new relaxed vibe and can be a play on a skein/yarn cake!
Need to incorporate two passions. “One More Row” or something like that. “Needles and Oars?”
So happy to see your podcast again; looking forward to the next episode. You are always so down-to-earth and inspiriting!! Name suggestion "One Row at a Thyme" as in one-day-at-a-time, and a reflection on your passion for knitting, along with your new passion for rowing & candles.😘👍
“Conversations with Drew. Life, yarn, and coffee”. I think this fits, as I feel like you are just having a face to face conversation.
When you were talking about what was important to you I kept thinking “knitting warmth” or something along those lines. Multiple meaning because we knit things to keep us warm, or knit things that give us the warm feeling as we knit, or we get the warm feeling when we give a knitted object.
I think that "the Craft and Care" would be a cute name... Thinking about self-care and also the fact that crafting is such a good outlet for people when it comes to easing stress and anxiety.
For your podcast, how about Real Life Drew. A play on your IG handle. (Is that what it's called? lol). Regarding candles: I have (or have burned) most of the ones you mentioned. I have no idea what's on your spreadsheet, but I love Nest Bamboo, Votivo Red Currant & Deep Clover, Trapp Mediterranean Fig & Bob's Flower Shop, Francis Kurkdjain Anouche...I could go on & on. I'll stop!
