    DePaul is best! Northwestern is in a suburb outside of Chicago; UChicago is in a terrible neighborhood in Chicago. DePaul is in a phenomenal neighborhood in the best part of Chicago. I would rather send my kids to DePaul than either of those two other schools. It’s a better college atmosphere. Most people don’t want to live in a suburb or in a sketch part of a city for college.

    DePaul is better for college. A wonderful private, Catholic, Big East Conference university. It’s located right in the best neighborhood in Chicago (Lincoln Park)-not in sketch south side of Chicago, not far away Evanston. DePaul has a primacy in teaching-not research. For college-level students, that’s often better than a research-intensive university.

      Depends on what you are studying. Of course U of C and northwestern are superior academically. Yet for the average student, DePaul offers an education that provides a great return on investment. Let’s face it, majoring in political science or sociology at any of these institutions is a direct path to work at Starbucks.

    • @user-fs8tl7ni1w
      @user-fs8tl7ni1w 8 месяцев назад

      Average student? You are being intentionally insulting. A 3.8 GPA for the average accepted student at DePaul is hardly average. Find me even one high school where the class average is a 3.8 GPA. That’s who applies to college... high school kids. I just met a class valedictorian with a perfect 4.0 who earned nearly every award at her private high school who chose DePaul. She wanted a school with a primacy of teaching, not research. Ask the mastermind of the college admission scandal, Rick Singer, who sent wealthy kids to elite colleges why he sent his son to DePaul not long before he got caught. Why Mike Pence sent his daughter to DePaul (and then to Harvard for her masters). Want more examples? You just make insults without justification. Ugh! Get a life.

      @@user-fs8tl7ni1w My friend, I suspect you are a current or recent student at DePaul. I know the University well, trust me on that. The University has been and continues to be today - attractive to first generation college attendees, like me. Many students worked part or even full time while attending, and the school offered a nice balance of academics and real-world work experience. Students, on the whole, were hungry, motivated, focused on bettering themselves through an education that opened a world of opportunity unknown to their parents or grandparents. I'm certain the dynamics have changed over the years, perhaps quite a bit, yet it remains true to its core mission of providing opportunities to first generation college students, many from the City, many minority. DePaul will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'll forever be a Blue Demon. Having said that, here are the facts - concerning the 3.8 gpa referenced, grade inflation is a thing in high school. A 3.8 decades ago had meaning; today I'm not convinced it carries the same weight, pun intended. Concerning U of C and N'wstrn - if you look at college and university rankings, these 2 names are consistently in the top 10. DePaul? Comes in at #151, but #59 in best value. It's a city school, a gritty school by the El tracks. That's what I loved about it - no arrogance, not a hint of elitism. The only criticism I have is that they absolutely gotta fix the men's bball program - there is no reason peer schools like Marquette, Creighton, et all can have success and they can't. Lastly, I do have a life - in large part the quality of which was made possible due to the time I spent there. Best of luck as you continue on your journey as well.

    Hi Emma, First let me compliment you on a wonderful piece of reporting that I felt was 90% unbiased and simply gave the information and facts as you understood it. A little about me, I am a native Chicagoan, born and raised on the south side of Chicago, former resident and employee of the Univ of Chicago and former student of Hyde Park Career Academy. So my feedback is shaped by my background. 1. Thank you for filling in greater detail of the tensions surrounding this project. What you illuminated for me was a) the real purpose of the CA; b) the fact that a private entity will have ownership of public land; and 3) the varying conflicting interests in this project. 2. I will state first, I am in full support of this project and the location. I do respect the concerns surrounding it but my hopes was given their projections, it would provide much needed jobs and business opportunities to that community and hopefully contribute to reducing the crime rate in that community. But I agree with the point that you made that if they don't then it simply open a wicked gateway to gentrification and pushing the current residents out. Due to the crime rate, honestly I don't have a problem with that. 3. You raised a very good point about the prospective economic benefits to the community and why they want the CA. At the same time, the point raised about the project filtering in additional business to the surrounding community is something I didn't consider. 4. I do believe that community needs investment and a chance to gain business opportunities and jobs provided if the Obama Foundation lives up to their projections. I don't agree that Washington Park is a good location. The surrounding area is too under-developed at this time to support the chances of meeting their anticipated business opportunities and jobs projections. I have to ask, wouldn't the center pose the same challenges as Jackson Park? Gentrification, private entity owning public land etc. It is true, depending on the location near Washington Park, it could still put them in proximity of Univ of chicago. 5. That area, IMHO, requires a bit of development and gentrification. It has degraded since I attended school there and if they want business to filter out into that community then they have to reduce the level of crime. 6. I absolutely agree with the community's stance of not closing Cornell drive. Stoney Isl currently is difficult to cross and I believe even with expansion, it would add congestion. I also believe it is an unnecessary cost to the tax payers. 7. Last, I believed, prior to your video, that the CA should be between the residents and the mayor. This is because I believe the residents were fighting for protection against gentrification and rising property taxes. However, I appreciated that you brought more insight in that they wanted to have first opportunity to jobs and business opportunities and that I agree with especially if they are giving up public land to a private entity. Sorry for the long comment but I truly appreciated the greater insight you provided.

    The victim is the officer, make no mistake. Sure they sign up for the job, but nobody WANTS to shoot a human being. This person has mental issues or was on drugs, both sad and unfortunate. He needs help for sure. The officer had no choice. P.S. don't tell me he should have shot the pipe out of his hand like you see in the movies, that's not remotely feasible or at all reasonable to ask somebody to do to prevent injury or death to themselves or others.

      The officers did everything right. They gave him time and instructions. They gave him space while containing him in a specific area. They even backed up when he began to close the distance between them and himself. The officer resorted to deadly force after it became clear that the subject has become an active aggressor and no lesser means of force would be effective.

      Zach Bennett he has a weapon, the cops should not be in back of him due to the line of fire. However a taser would be more appropriate but deadly is also acceptable due to the offender running at the officer in the end. Crazy
